Most students hated being snowed under with schoolwork, but Tanith didn't mind. In fact, she found quite it comforting to get away from the stress of home and have only foot-long essays, textbooks and upcoming exams to worry her while she was at school. This year was no exception, in fact she was dreading the lack of distraction she would have when she would have to back to her gloomy Estate over Christmas. Nethertheless, her time at school was not all exams and homework. There were certain parts of the day that were still dangerous. Between classes, at lunchtime and after dinner there was still large periods of time were Tan was left with nothing to do. It wasn't that Tanith didn't have any friends per se, but she was rather quiet, and some evenings she found herself aimless having no one to talk to and nothing much to do or read; then her evenings free were usually spent mulling over Skeeter's stupid gossip column she had recently featured in.
Tonight was no exception. Tanith found herself curled in a chair in the Slytherin Common Room, uselessly revising her Charms essay for the third time and feeling undeniably awkward. Although she could convince herself she didn't need friends it was still a little weird not to have any of her usual suspects at least to talk to. Tanith didn't mind her own company but without at least somebody to talk to she couldn't deny it was a little lonely, and apart from answering 'Present' to the roll-call in class, she was worried her voice was beginning to crack from lack of use. Tonight, Tan didn't just feel lonely, she felt restless. There was no point her mulling around the Common Room on her own, and so she decided to take a little wander around the school. It was one of her usual activities when she was younger, and she rather enjoyed finding new shortcuts in the labryinth of corridors Hogwarts was. And so, restless and with nothing else to do, Tanith found herself wandering aimlessly around the chilly upper hallways of the school, wrapped up in her favourite wooly jumper.
Usually on this amblings Tanith let her feet take her wherever they wanted. Her mind was elsewhere, and tonight was no exception, and so it was with only mild surprise that she looked up blinking to find herself standing in the chilly but beautiful Astronomy Tower. Not that she minded very much. Astronomy was one of Tan's favourite subjects. She loved finding the constellations in the sky and the fables behind them. Tonight the constellations shone even brighter than usual in the frosty night, and Tanith could pick out a few as she curled up on the window seat and looked up into the inky sky and shivered a little. "I should come up here more often" She mumbled to herself, yawning as she looked around. It was a beautiful room but Tanith knew why she usually avoided it. Over the years the Astronomy tower had gained a romantic reputation, a room her fellow teenage students used only for kissing and Merlin knows what else away from the eyes of the teachers. Tonight, thankfully, it was empty as of yet. Not that Tanith minded. She had decided resolutely over her past few teenage years, living vicariously through her friends' sob-stories, that romance was definitely more trouble than it was worth.
