Be who they want to see:
James is tall and thin of athletic build. Lean yet strong, and muscular, though how exactly he stays so thin is a mystery. He eats a lot at meals and has been known to sneak into the kitchen for late night snacks. His hair is black and quite unruly on its own, though he does have a habit of running his hand through it just to mess it up even more, giving it that wind blown look. His hazel eyes are somewhat hidden behind glasses that he often adjusts. Yes he is quite the looker but it is his smile and smirk that melts the hearts of the girls.
He moves with ease and confidence, and when necessary with athletic quickness that comes to him naturally. Attributes that come in handy on the Quidditch pitch or in dueling. Which by the way he enjoys doing and is very accomplished at both.
He likes to wear casual clothes and jeans when he doesn't have to wear the school uniform or robes. He hates to dress up in suits or a tux, but let's be honest what teen would? Possibly those that are rich and flaunt it would, but that is not him. Even though he is rich you could never tell it by what he wears.
But that leaves no one:
To discover that inside:
James' parents were older than most when he was born. The only child, a son, in a pure-blood wizarding family of wealth. Like all parents they gave him anything he wanted or desired, wanting him to have what they didn't and more. So yes they pampered him and let him do what he wanted. Encouraged him, just like normal parents.
So by the time he became a teen he was well aware of his talents. Exceptionally talented on a broom he took to Quidditch like a duck to water. Soon becoming Gryffindor's best Chaser ever! He was boastful and proud of that fact and would show off his masterly moves every chance he could get, especially to the girls.
Of course this would make others jealous, mainly the Slytherins who were bitter rivals of Gryffindor. This is where one of his other talents kicked in quickly, dueling or hexing. Fifty percent of the duels were in self defense and the other fifty was just because he thought it would be fun to hex someone for laughs. Of course it may be more or less than the fifty percent in either direction cause to James, it was fun to duel. That 11-inch mahogany wand saw just as much action as his Nimbus racing broom.
Don't get me wrong James is quick to make friends. If you are his friend he is very loyal to you. He holds them close to him and would die for any of them. His closest friends are known as the Marauders, consisting of Sirius, Peter and Remus. They all share the same dorm and a hugh secret. A secret that could get them expelled and sent to perhaps Azkaban Three of them are unregistered Animagus and the fourth a werewolf. Sirius being his best friend, a brother that James didn't have. The four of them are often seen together about campus and in Hogsmeade, in places they shouldn't be. Skipping classes, avoiding Filch and detention was all a game to them. So much so that James along with Remus made a map of the school. They all used their nicknames of Prongs, Padfoot, Moony and Wormtail to identify the makers of the map. Yes they were always up to no good. The four of them pulling pranks and practical jokes on the unsuspecting especially the Slytherin.
You would think with all of this going on that his grades would fall. Nope he is a top student, straight O's, very smart practically a genius, after all he did help make that Marauder's Map! He just doesn't have to study like Remus or Peter does. He knows the subject even though he tries to get out of doing the work. To him he could be having fun prankiing someone instead of writing an essay just to please a teacher.
Popular, a Marauder, Quidditch stud, he could have any girl in school but the one he wanted, and that is one Lily Evans. She is unimpressed by him no matter what he tries. She is friendly with Snape. That coupled with the fact that he is Slytherin and interested in the Dark Arts is why James hated Snape so. But it isn't a one sided hatred either. Snape despises and hates James just as bad.
So did this make him an arrogant bully as some would say? No... he is exceptionally self-confident, mischievous, obnoxious show off. Your typical popular student with a bad crush on a girl that won't give him the time of day.
This soulless being:
Likes Lily Evans
the Marauders
to hex Snape 24/7
did I mention Lily?
to joke around and have fun
quidditch
Is just as lost:
Hates Snape
the way the Blacks treat Sirius
to loose
Prejudice
vomit flavored Bertie Bots Beans
As everyone else:
His friends are his strength along with his confidence in them and himself. Transfiguration and Dueling, Lily
In a world that knows only hate:
Lily, where she is concerned he would do anything, he tends to reach for the wand before thinking things through, chocolate frogs and staying out of trouble are weaknesses along with Divination
And causes pain for the soulless like me:
he is an unregistered Animagus and that he is head over heels in love with Lily
They left me to die:
Only know what I have been told
On a bed of roses:
Potters, Ignotus Peverell ancestor
Blood seeping through:
nothing other than owing an invisibility cloak
The satin sheets of fame:
Wealthy
What a bitter story of love:
The wind howled and the lightening flashed splitting the darkness over the quaint village known as Godric's Hollow. The rain pelted the newly planted flowers in the window box. The storm had arrived. Abraham turned from the window as he heard the wail of another arrival. Slight lines of worry creased his forehead as he moved towards the stairs. Liberty, Lib as he called her had had a rough week, the roughest of her pregnancy. Truth be told they, the both of them, were quite well along in their years to be having children. It came as quite a shock when they were told nine months ago. The lines of worry faded and a smile spread from his lips when he opened the door and saw Lib holding the baby in the glow of the candles.
Everything was fine. James had a typical childhood living in Godric's Hollow. Even went to the muggle school there as most of the younger wizarding children there did. He made friends easily and was very popular. His parents, though elderly, took keen interest in him and his friends. It was common for several of them to share dinner at the Potters. Abra would take him and his friends to Cornwall to the quidditch games. Lib was active in the community and church. They were well liked.
As a typical boy he got into trouble a lot as boys do. From charming the mail box to shoot the letters back at the mail man to having obstacle broom race courses that ran though the graveyard. Yes he was a handful for his parents. He rarely got punished though, yes he would get a talking to but it was short. How could his parents stay mad long at him when he was everything to them.
At age 9 James and his family moved to London so his dad could be closer to the Ministry where he worked in the Department of Magical Equipment Control. His mother volunteered at St. Mungo's. That left James on his own a lot after school which he spent in Diagon Alley.
It was assumed he would get the letter from Hogwarts, so it came as no surprise. What did come as a surprise was the quietly and in secret gift his dad gave him to pack. A cloak, an invisibility cloak. His dad looked at him with a knowing grin saying "I believe you may get some use out of this, I know I did." His dad glanced at the door "Just don't tell your mom." James stuffed the cloak in his trunk and set out on the adventure known as Hogwarts.
After his parents left him at the train he ran into another boy while loading his trunk that introduced himself as Sirius Black. "Where are you heading if you've got the choice?" Black asked James as James was staring at a red haired girl standing next to a kid with greasy hair. He looked at Black "Why Gryffindor of course, like my dad!" The greaser let out a snort. James's eyes swung to the greaser. "You have a problem with that?" They eyed each other for a full long minute before the greaser answered no. Sirius spoke up suggesting they go find a seat and as they walked off James heard the greaser mutter something about him being a "dork". Right then and there he decided he didn't like that greaser.
On the other hand he and Sirius found a compartment that had only one person in it another boy named Remus. The three of them hit it off and were soon joined by a fourth, a rather scared looking Peter. Who would have known that those four would be sorted together, dorm together and become inseparable friends.
Only four times a year are the third years and up allow to go to Hogsmeade. one Saturday each season. Not nearly enough in James's opinion. There was no way he, and the Marauders could keep their supply of Dungbombs, Stink Pellets, and other assorted annoying items they used against the Slytherin and other unsuspecting students if they adhered to the rules. Then of course there is the chocolate factor... Sure they get dessert at school but it's not the same as what Honeydukes has. Chocolate frogs, exploding bonbons, sugar quills, just to name a few. All of these items were on the list he stuffed into his pocket as he picked up his purchases.
It was dark as it gets dark early in the winter. He adjusted the three bundles under his arms as he stepped out the door from Zonko's into the cold night. Finished with the joke shop all he had left was to get the stuff from Honeyduke's then head back. He wished Sirius was here like he was suppose to be. He could use the help carrying all this. It was an unusually large order. But Sirius wasn't here, he was in detention, writing lines no doubt for setting Snape's hair on fire in potions class. James wanted to be the one to do it but he had lost the coin toss. Who would have thought will all that grease it would be so easy to light? Besides it didn't burn long or much cause Polly Padsworth dumped the entire bucked of frog spawn on Snape's head. No harm no foul unless you was the unfortunate tadpole that ended up wiggling on the floor at Snape's feet.
He was about to step off the walk and head towards Honeydukes when he saw Lucius Malfoy emerge from an alley and head towards the unsavory part of town. He wouldn't have thought anything of it if Malfoy wasn't pausing to look behind him as if he was making sure he wasn't being followed. "humm... interesting" he muttered. Quickly he hid the packages behind a barrel and keeping to the darkest shadows he began to follow Malfoy. Malfoy rounded the corner going into an alley, James broke into a trot to keep up. Rounding the corner, unsure what to expect, he saw ..... nothing. It was as if Lucius had vanished. Stepping to the middle of the alley he looked up and down it. Nothing, no sign of life except for a tabby cat.
Suddenly the shadows began to move and a dozen or so hooded and cloaked wizards appeared. He was surrounded and in a bad situation, dare he draw his wand? His chances didn't look good, he could draw the wand, incur their wrath and probably die, or he could just stand here and probably die. The first option there was a slim to none chance he could cause enough commotion that he maybe able to get away. Taking a deep breath he moved his hand towards his wand.
