What can be found in a name:
Annelise Molly Westerhof
When the day I was born:
21/04/1960
The Angels screamed:
Bartele and Lisa
And Hell shut its doors:
Jakob
While creatures retreated:
A tawny owl named Phil
To depths unknown:
Half-blood
I hide from them:
Annelise's favourite places to hang out include the owlery, outside by the lake, her bedroom, forests and just hanging out with friends.
Be who they want to see:
For a Dutch girl, Annelise is darker than most from her home country. No one really knows how she's so dark compared to her fair family, but she likes it. She claims it makes her feel just a little bit special. Along with her tanned skin complexion, she also plays host to long, waving black hair and matching eyes. She's rather thin, and not very tall, either, standing at only about five foot four. She enjoys running and flying, although not on the Quidditch team, which helps her body be considered well toned. However, she doesn’t typically show off her body, for she believes that someone should like you for what’s inside before they like you for what’s on the outside. Admittedly, though, she is somewhat proud of her hard work in what her body looks like. She also lays claim to a button-like nose, and soft, but somewhat small lips. She always feels as if her head is a little too big for her body, but no one sees that but her. Annelise’s legs are also long in proportion to her body, but she never wears mini-skirts, so unless she’s going somewhere fancy in which she’d wear a dress, no one sees that, either.
But that leaves no one:
To discover that inside:
Annelise isn’t shy, but she’s not really outgoing either; she’s best described as being somewhere in the middle. She will talk to just about anyone, as long as they are nice to her. She’s not confrontational, and she’d rather have pleasant conversations than ones that would be considered obscene or rude. She’s definitely a nice girl, and she just likes to have a good time, and occasionally get into a deep conversation. Annelise also doesn’t ask many questions. She will ask the obvious questions like, “Where did you come from?” and “So how do you like Hogwarts?” or “What is your family like?” but she doesn’t prod. If someone were to tell her that their parents were dead, she’d say that she was sorry for their loss, but wouldn’t ask how they died. Annelise can also be a little peculiar. She has a habit of commenting on things better left uncommented, and is a very honest girl. Although she isn’t very popular or rude, she likes people all across the spectrum, and believes that there’s a little good in everyone; and that if people brand themselves as evil it’s because they’re trying to put up a barrier against others.
Annelise grew up to be polite and kind, and although she wished more people would be so too, she honestly did find dirty jokes funny, although she would never crack them herself.
This soulless being:
- Reading
- Writing
- Nature
- Laughing
- Animals
- Magic
Is just as lost:
- People who are mean to her for no reason
- Potions
- "Pushy" boys... boys who don't leave her alone when she obviously isn't interested 'that way.'
- The Dark Arts (although she does find them fascinating for study, just not in practise)
- The Dark Lord
As everyone else:
- Care of Magical Creatures
- Herbology
- Making friends
- Flying on a broomstick
- Doing favours
- Being bilingual
In a world that knows only hate:
- Potions class
- Defense Against the Dark Arts (she has a very visual mind, and gets a little panicked at the concept of fighting Death Eaters)
- Duelling
- Confrontation
- Report cards... they make her frightfully nervous.
And causes pain for the soulless like me:
- Her brother is a Muggle, just like her mum.
- She had tried to get Jakob into Hogwarts, even offering up her position to do so. She failed, obviously, as Muggles are not allowed in Hogwarts.
- Annelise trains her brother magic on holidays in hopes that maybe he's just a 'late bloomer.'
They left me to die:
- Evelien Poole (Grandmother/Oma)
- Jan Poole (Grandfather/Opa)
- Willem Poole (Uncle)
On a bed of roses:
- Rozemarijn Westerhof (Grandmother/Oma)
- Roosevelt Westerhof (Grandfather/Opa)
- Jasmijn Westerhof (Aunt/Twin with Jette)
- Jette Westerhof (Aunt/Twin with Jasmijn)
Blood seeping through:
Everyone in Annelise's family are magical, excluding her mother and her brother. Literally everyone are witches and wizards, which often causes a drift in the family, for their family tree dates back to the 1600s (and further, although they can't find the records) and every member was magical. Also, her aunts Jasmijn and Jette practise the Dark Arts, and are renowned the Netherlands for being extraordinary at what they do.
The satin sheets of fame:
Upper middle class.
What a bitter story of love:
Annelise and her brother Jakob were born only one year apart, although somehow on the exact same day: April 21. She was born in 1960, he was born in 1962. Although their mother was not a witch, they always assumed that both Annelise and Jakob would grow up to be magical, considering both of their families were witches and wizards for hundreds of years. When Annelise was six and Jakob was four, the Westerhof family moved to Britain, for their parents wanted the two of them to attend, what they believed, was the best magic institute in the world. They moved to London on a small budget, but all so they could be very close to the magical community. However, as they grew up, Annelise was showing considerable amount of magical ability, whereas Jakob showed very little, if not none. When April 21, 1971 rolled around, Annelise received her letter, much to the praise of her family. She went off to Hogwarts, got Sorted into Hufflepuff (her family was Sorted all over the place, her Aunts into Slytherin, her father in Gryffindor, her uncle into Ravenclaw, her grandparents on her mother’s side in Hufflepuff) and continued to be the nice girl that she was, albeit a tad shy, and only making a few friends. When April 21, 1973 came around, Annelise, along with the rest of the Westerhof family, was extremely excited for Jakob to get his letter. But it never came. Their father went so far to even write to Hogwarts and demand to know where their letter was. Anger ensued when they got told that Jakob was not a wizard. Their father was even somewhat ashamed. Sure, he had married a Squib, but her family were all witches and wizards too. A few dark years came in which he blamed his wife for Jakob not being a wizard. During Annelise’s second year, she tried to persuade anyone who’d listen to allow Jakob to come, and take her place. She always had a great love for her brother, and hated to see how upset he was. Her request was denied, and although Jakob claimed to hold no resentment for his sister, she was never so sure.
Luckily, however, when Annelise started her fifth year of Hogwarts, all had settled in the Westerhof family. Their father finally stopped blaming their mother, and Annelise felt as if she could finally go back to Hogwarts happy, and perhaps make new friends, and have almost a new beginning in Hogwarts.
Annelise sat on a bench in the court of Hogwarts. The bench was rather cold, but she was fully aware that if she sat there long enough, it would eventually warm up. She pulled out a notebook and started writing in it. It was like a diary, but rather she would write about people and what she noticed (James looked a little tired today, Sirius had bags under his eyes, Remus was absent from class etc) than to actually properly write about her day. Many people passed her without giving her a second look. She was far from popular, and never really got much attention. Many people called her boring in her life, and she was okay with that. She would rather make the friends who didn't mind if she was boring than make friends while being something she wasn't. She wasn't completely pure, though. It wasn't like she'd say no if Firewhiskey was offered to her, although she did typically know her limits.
Annelise spent a solid twenty minutes writing about what she noticed about people before closing her leather bound book. It wasn't like she was trying to figure out people's secrets, it was just her way of trying to remember everything. It was why she kept a journal in the first place. She was always scared to forget.
She felt something cold on her nose and looked up to see it was softly snowing. She scrunched her nose, but smiled. She supposed it was better than rain. Annelise make a quick note in her journal about the weather before continuing on her way. She began to walk to the Hufflepuff common room, when she saw a sight that seemed to be common around Hogwarts: Slytherins picking on first year Gryffindors. She walked over without being noticed, and stood there for a few moments before looking at the ringleader straight in the eye and said, "So how often do you pick on kids that have the same traits that you hate in yourself?"
She was legitimately asking out of curiousity. She noticed that they were making fun of the boy for his large nose, and the Slytherin picking on him also had a quite prominent nose. When he furiously (and angrily and rudely) denied that was what he was doing, Annelise fell silent. She felt like she caused an upset, and that too many people were paying her attention. Instead, she side stepped around the whole situation and continued on her way.
