It was only a couple of hours before sunset, and Sirius Black was standing in the grounds of Hogwarts, leaning under a tree close to the Forbidden Forest's edge by himself. He was dressed darkly in hopes of not being seen. The only people that he wanted to see at that point in time was his friends, and no one else. He had a habit of getting distracted, but he was so extremely excited to finally get his secret out. Well, not only his secret, but the thing that he, James and Peter had been working on since they found out Remus was a werewolf. He had been practising a lot by himself at night, and he knew that James had even been daring enough to try during the day. However, Sirius knew that a stag walking around during the day would probably get a lot less attention than some mangy, large dog. No doubt by the way rumours spread around Hogwarts that if they saw a large dog, people would start saying there was a werewolf running around. Well, there was, but no one knew that. Sirius grinned to himself. How amusing would it be if everyone thought that he was a werewolf? He laughed at the thought of trying to lure Snape out to follow him, and then Remus in wolf form attacked him. Sirius actually chuckled out loud to the thought. He wouldn't be getting anything less than what he deserved.
Sirius looked back over the grounds. The clouds were almost black, not because of the fact that night was nearing, but merely because they were storm clouds. He frowned, not wanting to get caught in the rain. It wasn't really for anything that important, but merely because he didn't want to end up tracking water and mud through the castle when they would eventually have to sneak back in. He tried to ignore the impending storm above his head, and instead focused on the front doors. He asked the rest of the Marauders to meet him at about this time, but he assumed that James was no doubt stuffing his face in the Great Hall. He would have done the same, but he felt to restless about the whole thing. He couldn't wait. He had come out early in order to practise some more in the Forest before everyone else did. He had half-expected Peter to have come with him, due to the fact that Peter was the least skilled at being an Animagi. He hadn't, however, which didn't really bother Sirius all that much. When Sirius felt restless, he became even more short-tempered than usual. It was a bit nervous about that, because he knew that Remus sometimes became snappy around the full moon as well.
The wind began to pick up, and there was definite moisture in the air. He was now certain that it was going to storm, and his prediction was confirmed with a flash of lightning lit up the sky. There was yet to be any rain, but if the other Marauders didn't show up soon, they were going to be in for a soaking. Sirius squinted his eyes against the wind, and watched as all the other students outside began to rush inside to beat the storm. Maybe there was an upside to the storm, after all. Less people outside would mean less of a chance of them being caught.
Sirius was beginning to become impatient, and also somewhat annoyed. He wished that he had brought the Map with him to perhaps see where his friends at went. He leaned his head beck against the tree and closed his eyes. He knew his impatience had no boundaries, and this was no exception. He could feel the irritance flow through his body like it was in his veins. He hardly ever got annoyed with his friends when he actually saw them, but he had the bad habit of believing that he was important. He knew it probably had something due to his upbringing, but couldn't help it when he felt like he was being ditched.
No. Sirius shook his head, but then resumed the position he was in before with his eyes closed. He knew he shouldn't think like that. Besides, technically he wasn't being the one let down, it was Remus. They were doing this for him after all. He took a few deep breaths, keeping calm. He opened his eyes after a few seconds and looked into the distance, where he definitely saw some people leaving the castle. Here was to hoping it was his mates, and not Snivellus with some acquantinces or something. Word Count: 800 Comments: I made it in Hogwarts Grounds first, as a meeting point.

The sound of voices waved through the air announcing the approaching people. One would think that with it January and still quite wintery out that the students would seek out the warmth of the castle. It was around dinner time he supposed, otherwise the pair of Hufflepuffs would have been in class instead of sneaking their way to the boathouse for some late afternoon delight of snogging. The stag was standing ankle deep in the lake raised its head with water dripping from it's muzzle, looked toward the students. He had been drinking from the lake. Which he normally reframed from doing but he had been out here since lunch time and well honestly got thirsty. With a splash and a leap the stag ran off towards the line of trees near the greenhouses.
Checking to make sure no one was about, by sight and smell for he did have not only his human awareness but the awareness of his animagi form. Deciding it was safe he transformed to his human self. Adjusting the school robes, he made his way into the castle. Smiling to himself satisfactorily. He did make one hell of a stag, he'd been working on perfecting his moves while being animagi. Something he and Peter, if Peter actually thought of it, could use to their advantage here on the grounds and with Peter even inside the castle. For who would suspect a deer or a rat. Especially a rat where about a quarter of the school chose them as pets. Sirius on the other hand was a mangy dog. Though he had to admit it a dog with quite a nice disposition, however he looked rather like a grim or a rabid wolf. Wouldn't do to have either lurking about the grounds in broad daylight. Though the forbidden forest was always an alternative.
He entered the castle and proceeded to the Great Hall, figuring he'd have plenty of time to eat before their meeting time. They had a long night ahead of them and there would be no snack runs to the kitchen tonight to satisfy a hungry stomach. He sat down in their usual place, but none of the others were there. He dished up his food and began to eat. After a while he noticed the enchanted ceiling was darker, and still he sat alone eating. Oh Merlin! He cursed under his breath before getting up quickly from the table. It must be later than he thought. He walked hastily out of the Great Hall, once he got to the Grand Staircase he ran up taking two at a time.
This was one time he couldn't be late, or any of them for that matter. There was no way one could be fashionably late on a date with a werewolf. Though technically it was a 'blind' date as Remus was clueless to the whole thing. He reached the portrait and sputtered the password, then waited for the incredibly slow portrait to swing open. Ignoring the common room he went directly up to the dorm, which was .... empty. "Oh shit!" He shot a glance at the window to confirm the fact that he had miscalculated and was apparently late as it was already getting quite dark. Quickly he threw off his robe and clothes pulling on a pair of jeans and a bulky black pull over sweater. Turning on heel he got just outside the dorm door when he realized what he was forgetting. Cursing again he retraced his steps and went over to his trunk. Digging deep inside he pull out the cloak and stuffed it under his sweater. Knowing they would need that to get back inside in the morning. Turning he left.
Stepping outside the castle he was greeted by a clap of thunder. His eyes shot to the sky and saw the brewing storm approaching. Quickly he turned and walked around the courtyard to a small statue of a mermaid. He had scoped out possible hiding places for their monthly excursions and this was one of many. He waited for a Ravenclaw to pass then pushed on a certain block on the column that the statue sat upon. It pushed open revealing a secret compartment that from the looks of spider webs that has been long forgotten and unused. Quickly he stuffed the cloak there and closed the compartment back.
Moving away he went down the stairs and striking out for the forbidden forest where they were to meet. On his way he got several stares as most students were heading indoors to avoid getting wet. He hoped they would just think he was heading for the Pitch since they both were kinda roughly in the same direction.
Reaching the forest in the dark of the oncoming storm and night he could hear the wind rushing through the forest until finally it hit him in a cold wave. Looking about he didn't see any of them... was he too late. He hoped not. "Sirius ... Peter" he spoke out not yelling cause he didn't want to draw any unwanted attention to him .. "You Here?"

Word count: 663 Remus was already in the Shack, lying down on the bed upstairs. The mattress was lumpy, disgusting, on the verge of falling apart and the pillow had gone missing a long time ago, but it was better than the floor, better than anything, really. Remus was quite sure there was no place in all fo Hogwarts he hated with a more intense passion than the Shrieking Shack, it reminded him of everything he did not want to be, it was everything where he never ever wanted to be if he could help it. The place smelled of his blood, his pain; it smelled of animal and urine where the wolf had marked its territory. Honestly? The scent was making Remus feel sick, but it paled in comparison to the increasingly stronger pull of the moon at his bones and (more importantly) his mind. He slowly rolled onto his side, curling up a little to keep himself warm (he was only wearing a robe and had left his wand and clothes at the hospital wing, as they wolf tended to be destructive) and pretended very hard to be somewhere else. Remus wasn't sure what was worse, the transformation or the waiting for the transformation to happen. It wasn't that he was afraid of transforming, he just hated waiting for himself to lose control. He never knew what was about to happen, he never knew how he would wake up. Everything had gone as it should've earlier. They had a fixed schedule to get him to the Shack. They had made sure he'd eaten well ('they' being madam Pomfrey, but she could seem like an army of nurses when she wanted to). She'd given him four undercooked steaks, something Remus usually didn't indulge in. He couldn't deny he was (mainly) a carnivour, even when the moon wasn't full, but he never gave into it and refused to eat more meat than everyone else just because some animalistic side of him wanted to. The only time he gave into it was the night before full moon, as a full stomach lessened the wolf's aggression. Then Pomfrey would bring him to the Shack. Remus always got to there hours before moonrise, but he felt like he couldn't risk anything and besides.. he was no fun to be around the few hours prior to his transformation anyway. The wolf would be constantly fighting Remus' consciousness, trying to get the upper hand a little earlier than usual, and not only did it tire Remus, it also made him a whole lot more irritable. It was better that he was alone, who knew how he'd respond to other living things? Remus didn't know, even his parents had sort of instinctively known to leave him alone the hours prior to the transformation. So here he was with about an hour to go. He hated wintry nights, the nights were long, moon rose early and set late.. No, Remus was much more fond of summer. His mind briefly wandered off, wondering what his friends were doing, but seeing what time it was.. they were probably having dinner. Remus' stomach growled slightly - damn having fast werewolf metabolism! Thinking of his friends calmed him a little, though. Remus knew he had people supporting him in the morning, not just the inevitable adults (Pomfrey, McGonagall, and Dumbledore), but actually peers. Of course it was nice when adults cared, but Remus was a teenager and we all know that all that matters during that period is what your friends think of you, how they treat you. Remus was ever so glad to have friends. How and why they'd come to like him was beyond him, but apparently they did and he was not about to question it and lose them. Oh no, the world would have to stand upside down and do summer salts before Remus would lose his friends deliberately.

Peter had made sure he'd gotten an early dinner, he'd had a detention for not handing in his homework on time and was lucky it had finished early thanks to a couple of boys fighting down the hallway and the Professor taking it upon himself to go and break them up. Peter had been under strict instructions to stay in the classroom until the Professor returned but Peter wasn't exactly the type to stay and do as he was told, at least not when he had to meet a couple of people in less than an hour to surprise a friend. No. Peter did not stay where he was, in fact he got up from kneeling on the floor and snuck to the Professor's desk, luckily, in his haste, the Professor had neglected to lock the draw which he was keeping Peter's wand in, so Peter took out his wand from the draw and snuck out of the classroom, keeping an eye on the Professor down the hallway, dealing with the two boys. Peter knew this was going to land him in more trouble but he didn't care, he had to be there tonight or james and Sirius were going to kill him.
Running as fast as he could away from the classroom, Peter headed into the great hall and grabbed himself some dinner. There was no way he'd be able to run around on an empty stomach until morning, it just wasn't going to be possible for him. Sometimes though, he did wonder why his animagus wasn't a pig, and sometimes he wondered why it was a rat. He drew the conclusion that it was his nose. It did look sort of rat like, and not to mention the rest of him. No, he looked more like a rat than any other animal really, he wasn't sure how he felt about that but now wasn't the time to really be thinking, he needed to keep an eye on the time and so, every two minutes without fail, Peter looked at his wrist to find the hands on his watch had barely moved. Someone had enchanted time to go slower, surely there was no other explanation, he couldn't have been that excited about tonight, that excited to finally let Remus know their secrets, that excited to put their years of practice into action and show Remus that they were the best friends he could ever have that everything seemed to go slower ... could he? Probably so.
Peter headed out of the great hall when he was done with his meal and made a quick stop at the Gryffindor tower, heading upstairs and grabbing the Marauders Map out of Sirius' trunk. Peter tapped his wand against the map and said the magical words that turned the plain piece of parchment into a magical map of Hogwarts, with people roaming about. Scanning over the grounds, Peter noticed Sirius heading down to their meeting spot, he looked at his watch and grinned. It was time! Looking for James, Peter noticed him in the Great Hall, probably grabbing a bite to eat, and then, Peter looked for another name and spotted it pretty quickly. The Professor he had detention with was still in the detention room with the two boys that had caused a fuss and allowed Peter to escape. Thank you boys! But still, Peter was going to have to keep an eye on the map to make sure the Professor didn't come out of the classroom as Peter had to make his way to the grounds in that direction, it was the most direct route after all.
Leaving the common room as fast as he could without causing any wandering eyes to fall upon him, Peter ran down multiple hallways and multiple moving staircases so as not to be late, keeping an eye on the map all the while, but soon, Peter found himself faced with a bit of a tricky situation, as he turned the corner to the corridor where the classroom was that he'd had detention in, he heard some yelling and screaming from the Professor he'd had the privilege of having detention with earlier, telling the two boys to get out of his sight. Peter looked to the map as the Professor went silent. Quickly Peter pressed himself up against the wall the door was along and crouched, hiding himself behind a suit of armour, the only thoughts running through his mind as he glanced at the map and saw the two boys head off in the other direction was that the Professor would retreat to his classroom and close his door, but no such luck. Peter could see the professor on the map heading back into the classroom, but there was no shutting of the door. Peter squeezed his eyes tight. To go the long way around from here was going to take too long and he'd be too late, to cut across this corridor, well, there was a chance the Professor was going to see him.
Peter eased his eyes open and sighed before yelping a little at the sight before his eyes. Peeves was hovering right in front of him and Peter had to clamp his hands over his mouth to stop from screaming in surprise. "Go away Peeves!" He hissed as quietly and as sternly as he could managed but it was no good, Peeves apparently took offence at this and, as a result, knocked over the armour Peter was hiding behind. Peter knew he had no chance now, especially as Peeves started howling a song about him cowering behind the suit of armour. Peter glanced at the map quickly to see where the Professor was and to his horror, the dot with the professor's name by t was moving quite steadily from the back end of the classroom the to front and Peter knew this was going to be his only chance now no matter what way he ran.
Standing up quickly, Peter tapped the map and stuffed it inside his coat pocket before pegging it through Peeves and down the corridor, jumping over bits of metal which was becoming more and more difficult as Peeves was flying in front of him knocking down every suit of armour there was cackling insanely and Peter had to dodge them all, not to mention he heard his name being wildly yelled from the Professor he had just passed that tried to reach out for him but had only just managed to graze the back of Peter's coat with his fingertips. This was not good, not good at all, because when he was past all the armour and Peeves, Peter glanced behind him to hopefully find no one there, but no such luck for this Gryffindor, instead the Professor was chasing after him and Peter yelped before running as fast as he could before hiding himself in a classroom and looking at the map once more in the newly found sanctuary.
The Professor took his time but eventually went back when he decided there would be no catching Peter. Peter gave the Professor a couple of corridors before he snuck out of the second classroom today, luckily for him, the rest of the trip to the grounds was smooth sailing, no one else around and no more people ready to put him in detention for some reason or another. Peter carefully made his way out onto the grounds and hurried as quickly and yet as casually as he could for the point where he thought they were meeting at. Peter knew Sirius was there and waiting all ready but hadn't spotted James there yet but knew it would only be a few minutes until the other popular Marauder was waiting with his best friend, so Peter hurried up until he was along the outline of the forest and he heard a voice calling his and Sirius' name. It had to be James. Peter ran to catch up with him as quietly as he could.
"James!" He called quietly running up to the side of his friend. "Sirius is a little further up I think." In all this excitement, Peter finally realised one thing he'd forgotten to do ... he hadn't gone to the toilet and was now bursting. Ah well, he'd be an animal soon enough and able to go almost anywhere, just as soon as they found somewhere safe for their clothes and wands, the map and hopefully, James' invisibility cloak, if he remembered to bring it. Peter hoped he did, it would be a lot easier to get into the castle with it than without it, sneaking past Filch wasn't easy after all.

Sirius thought he heard a noise behind him in the Forest, but when he turned to look, he saw nothing. He knew it was probably him just being paranoid at this point. He was becoming steadily more worried about the increasingly dark sky. It wasn't common for thunderstorms to happen in January, but it did happen, and Sirius was getting worried. He knew his friends still had a little bit of time. The air, however, was changing. It was growing from damp, to cool. As he waited, he wished that he had worn something heavier to wear. Not only was it becoming cool, it was in fact becoming quite cold, and he wasn't pleased. He now wasn't surprised if it was going to snow instead. Stupid weather. Why did the weather have to be miserable the moment they wanted to do something?
However, a noise came from behind him, and he knew that this time he wasn't mistaken. As he turned, he felt a cold drop of water hit him on the face. He wasn't sure or cared if it was snow or rain. If it was his friends off in this distance (which he was sure it was) then they'd be able to change soon, and he'd have enough warm, thick fur to cover his entire body, and the weather would hardly effect him at all. Sirius began to walk towards the noise, and as he got closer, he defintely saw Peter and James together. His mood began to rise quite easily, and he hurried his pace to reach them faster. He smiled as he got closer and said, "What took you guys? I feel like I've been here forever."
Sirius looked over his shoulder at the Whomping Willow. It was throwing its branches about wildly, almost as if the dramatic change in weather was irritating it as well. Sirius suddenly felt an uncharacteristic sense of nervousness. It was almost like he was nervous that Remus wouldn't approve, or things would go horribly, horribly wrong. He looked back at his friends instead of the violent tree and kept his mind off of the events that would happen next. Word Count: 375 Notes: Yes, VERY short. I couldn't think of anything longer, and I thought it just really needed to get the three together.

He heard his name called out, turning to the sound he stopped in his tracks to see Peter closing the gap between them quickly. Before he could ask the whereabouts of Sirius, Peter volunteered the information, saying he thought he was just up ahead. "Good, It got dark so quick I was afraid I was late." He tilted his head and leaned down some to see the time on Peter's watch. Confirming that they were right on time. Then fell into step next to his friend as they continued on to Sirius.
They had planned this so carefully. Timing was critical. They had to get inside before Remus transformed into his werewolf self but they had to wait until Madam Pomfrey left. As she was Remus' escort, making sure he was secured away from the other students. So they wouldn't be endangered. He often wondered why Dumbledore took such a chance in admitting Remus in the first place. Most would have shunned him but Dumbledore didn't, he took him in putting his position, the school, students and his reputation on the line. And it wasn't like Dumbledore 'found' out after Remus started. No. He knew for he already had a plan in place to deal with Remus on the full moon. It was no accident that the Whomping Willow was planted their first year and that it covered a secret passageway to the Shrieking Shack. The shack itself was boarded up tight with no way inside but through the tunnel. It, after all, had to keep the general public out and a werewolf in. Of course the stories of the shack being haunted helped in keeping the curious away.
When he saw Sirius's broad smile, he returned it as he answered Sirius' question on their timeliness. "Anxious are we?" Though that probably wasn't the right word ... excited. Yes, bloody yes EXCITED! They were finally going to show Remus what they have been working on. A way they can show their true friendship and loyalty to each other and help their friend through a bad situation. He's been dying to tell or show Remus for months, but they had agreed that they would wait until they all could transform.
Tonight was the night, his gaze tracked Sirius' and fell upon the Willow. "We ready?" he questioned as he stepped past Sirius towards the tree.

Peter couldn't stop himself from grinning now that he had found at least one of his friends, and when he heard Sirius' voice he felt the excitement in him growing bigger. Tonight they would finally be able to tell Remus just what they'd been up to, why they'd all snuck off so many times. They would have been able to tell him sooner, but Peter had started having some issues with the last stage of his transitions, and changing back was a little bit of an issue too, but James and Sirius knew that and were willing to help him, that's what friends were for, right? True, he was a little paranoid they'd leave him like a rat, but that wouldn't last for long, they didn't want to leave him so long that he actually forgot who he was and became a rat full time, did they? Actually, did that even happen?
Chuckling a little nervously and excitedly as James asked if Sirius was anxious, Peter knew that the other two were itching to share this news with Remus, but neither of them more so than Peter. He felt this was such a big accomplishment that he wanted to prove Remus wrong. He wasn't an idiot, because sadly, that was what Peter thought Remus thought of him and it was more personal when it came to a 'friend' really thinking that of you, at least James and Sirius knew how much hard work and dedication he'd put into this with the extra practice sessions alone, but he always needed at least on of them to get rid of the tail, that thing was such a bugger to get rid of and so were the ears, but at least they were small enough to hide with his hair if Remus had walked in on him.
"Okay!" Peter hid behind a tree and took his clothes off "When I get under, will one of you bring my clothes?" he called, folding it as neatly as he could in his excited state before he picked up his wand. "Okay, this is it!" Peter used his wand to transform himself into his rat and gave a squeak. everything looked so different where he was but he had sort of gotten used to it, everyone looked giant and seeing a giant Sirius was kind of scary. Regular sized Sirius was more than enough for people to handle, a giant one? Well Peter hoped Sirius didn't get distracted by a giant girl and do things with her. That would be quite disturbing for the poor little rat.
Running as fast as he could with adrenaline pumping through him, Peter made his way to the whomping willow, of course, being a small rodent in a school filled with birds of prey wasn't the easiest thing so Peter had to be very aware of his surroundings, the last thing he wanted tonight was for an owls talons to puncture his kidneys or lungs of something like that, he'd end up in the hospital wing and then what wold he say to Madam Pomfrey? She would be horrified and not at all impressed as well as inquisitive. Questions were not good.
Reaching the tree, Peter knew he'd be safe from predators now because anything that came even remotely close would have got whipped a thousand mils away. Well, maybe not that far, but they'd probably be a fair way away and unconscious, so it was good for Peter he thought as he scrambled over and under roots to where the knot was. He pounced his little body upon it and as soon as the first strand of his fur touched the knot, the tree froze and Peter climbed inside the tunnel, hoping the other two had kept up and more importantly, that they'd remembered his clothes and not messed around with his undies, he'd stuffed them in his trouser pockets so they wouldn't have to deal with them though.

James smiled at him as Sirius approached. He could practically feel the energy coming off of his two mates. It was night they had been planning for ages, and although Peter had been having some troubles, he finally managed to do it. Admittedly, Sirius regretted not being able to do this sooner. Remus had to do this alone for the past four years at Hogwarts, and who knows how many years before Hogwarts. He pitied his friend, and hoped that this would be the best surprise ever.
"More like excited," Sirius said, beaming. "Of course I'm ready! I think it's safe all three of us are!" He added the last bit to boost Peter's ego. He didn't want Peter to feel as if he was the odd man out anymore.
Sirius watched as Peter went into the woods as a boy, and then came out as a rat. He was proud that Peter was now able to transform so effectively. Peter ran to the tree and pressed the knot, and then disappeared out of view. Feeling the energy run through his veins, he didn't not want to transform. He knew quite well that he and James could merely walk through the tunnel that brought them to the Shrieking Shack, and knew that James probably would have to walk due to the smallness of the tunnel (for James' antlers probably wouldn't fit... they had to crouch over when the four had initially found the area), but Sirius just wanted to change. He began to strip out of his clothes right then and there, having absolutely no shame. Sirius hadn't bothered to wear boxers that day, so the moment his jeans were off, he transformed into the hairy beast. He first ran to wear Peter had folded his clothes and then picked up the clothes in his mouth and brought them back to James and put the clothes at James' feet. It was weird to have to look up at James, for Sirius was usually taller, but he had gotten quite used to it by now. He barked, trying to let his friend know that he expected James to carry the clothing.
Sirius ran around and pranced for a few moments, throwing carefulness away, just loving the way the wind felt in his fur. He barked a few more times at his best friend before following Peter's lead into the hole. The ground felt soft under the pads of his paws, and it soon changed to rocky and sandy as he entered the tunnel under the tree. He just began to run, not even paying attention to where Peter was or what James was doing. Everything passed by him in a blur, and it wasn't long before his now enhanced smelling smelled fresh air. Well, close to fresh air. He bound through the opening into the Shrieking Shack. He didn't see Remus, so he ran off into a nearby closet to hide until James would show up. He ddn't want to surprise Remus with a naked version of himself. Word Count: 530

He tensed shortly as he could swear he heard something. Something. Downstairs? Remus sat up swiftly and listened intently. It couldn't be that there was someone down. There shouldn't be. Or was it just an animal that had somehow managed to get inside? He held his breath, listening to the silence and his heart beat in his ears, beating rapidly - in both fear and excitement. Fear at the idea of someone alive and innocent walking in and being in danger because of him, but excitement because the wolf was whispering in the back of his mind, whispers of prey and catch and kill. For minutes, well, it seemed like minutes, but was probably not that long, Remus was doing nothing, just sitting up and listening intently, but as he heard nothing more, he let himself fall back on the mattress (adjusting the robe he was wearing so he wasn't exposed). No matter that there was no one around, he didn't feel comfortable naked, he never really did. With a bit of a sigh, he tried to relax as much as possible, but found it difficult, never quite at ease and still listening intently. [Yeh, short, sorry - they'll be more lengthy when we get to the good part, lol ]

Sirius was right of course. All three of them were very much ready and excited to finally show Remus their accomplishments. He watched the willow swaying in the wind and against the wind. For the tree was not your average tree. It had one purpose to defend itself and that entry from any one or anything. The students even played a game to see who can touch the trunk without getting hit of course. That was until in their second year a muggle born named Davey Gudgeon nearly lost an eye playing that game. After that Dumbledore strictly forbid anyone to go near it, it was off limits.
He was mildly surprised when Peter offered to brave the branches and hit the knot to immobilize it. He remembered last time Peter tried, he was whomped really hard, so hard it knocked him out cold. But is was a good thing to let Peter try again. Let's face it the boy lack confidence in his abilities, and himself. Always second guessing. But when he finally was able to complete the transformation you could see the confidence grow in him, so James encouraged anything the boy did to help build it. Though he had to grin when Peter slipped into the woods to strip in order to transform. They all had to do that at first, including himself until recently. With all his practice he has accomplished the transformation with his clothing on. His eyes flickered to the woods as Peter called out for someone to get his clothes. "Sure no problem" he reassured his friend. Glancing at the sky as a mixed icy drizzle with a few flurries started to fall.
When he looked back at Sirius the boy was half naked. He grinned and shook his head, "If I'd known you were going to do that I would have brought my sunglasses," He squinted and made as if to cover his eyes jokingly. As Peter ran by heading to the tree, Sirius transformed into a large dog. 'Fetching' the clothes, dropping them at his feet barking. "I'm coming!" he insisted as he bent over and picked up their clothing. "You know I could slap a couple of satchels on you and you can be the pack animal." Or at the very least one of those kegs that are associated with St. Bernards, only filling it with fire whiskey. Both very good ideas in his opinion.
Clothes in hand he ran after the two. Sliding into the tunnel's entrance into the dark world below. Peter and Sirius quite a bit ahead of him. He pulled his wand, flicking it he sent a beam of light in front of him as he jogged behind them to keep up. For the other two could see well in the dark in their animagus form, they moved fairly quick. When he got to the exit he doused the light and slipped his wand away. He wasn't sure how they were going to do this. Was Peter and Sirius changing back so they could show Remus? Or was he going to be the one to change? Then were they staying here the whole night or leaving? If they left he couldn't go through that narrow tunnel in his stag form.
Easing quietly as possible on the sometimes creaking wood floor boards, into the darkened room his eyes adjusted to the dim light that filtered in. Looking about he didn't see Remus either but then again there were stairs that lead up to the second floor so he could be up there. He sat Peter's clothes on a wooden chair seat. Following the paw prints in the dust on the floor he went to the closet and eased the door open and dropped Sirius' clothing inside. He stood there excited, yet nervous about how Remus would react, watching the stairs, ears straining in the silence for any sound of him coming.

Peter waited for the other two to catch up, before he knew it a large great dog had arrived in the tunnel and Peter knew it was Sirius from the smell, at the moment he smelt more human than dog, but that would change once they'd all been rolling around in Merlin only knew what, one thing that worried Peter a bit though, was what if Remus, in his werewolf frame of mind, wanted to eat him? He was just a little rat after all but James had sort of assured and reassured him that Remus as a werewolf would recognise them as friends and not food. Peter hoped James was right though figured he probably was. James was really smart when it came to stuff.
With a leap, Peter grabbed on to Sirius' fur as he bounded along the passage way. Even in his rat form, Peter wasn't the most fastest of beings, so grabbing hold of Sirius as so much easier than running and wearing himself out. As soon as they reached the cabin though, Peter dropped to the ground and hid under an old looking chair. Peter wasn't sure if the chair was old or if it had just been worn out by Remus' furry little problem, but either way, he waited for James to bring his clothes for him so that he could get changed, there was no way he was greeting Remus naked. When James finally arrived and put his clothes on the chair he was hiding under, Peter squeaked and came out from his hiding place and transformed quickly.
"Don't turn around James" He whispered quietly and he ran his hands over his arse to find that there was no tail. For the first time ever, he'd actually managed to transform back into his human for 100%. Quickly though, he put on his underwear followed by his trousers and shirt, grabbing his wand, but he left his coat off, even though he was a little only the chilly side, but there was no point putting it on now because soon, they'd all be transforming and roaming the forbidden forest in their animal forms, though how James was going to get through the tunnel with his antlers Peter did not know. Perhaps they could go through Hogsmeade just this once or magically make the tunnel larger now and change it back when they left in the morning. Peter would have spoken up about the issue but he was a little afraid of sounding like an idiot in front of his friends, just in case they'd already talked about this and he just hadn't been paying attention.
"Hey! I changed back completely!" He whispered excitedly, even more eager to let Remus see what they'd all managed to do. "Let's head up!" He said, almost bouncing on his spot, completely impatient and as a result he headed toward the stairs and looked up, calling out. "Remus! Remus it's us! We're on our way up! Stay there!" He really couldn't contain his excitement as he made his way up the creaky stairs, his legs just wanting him to run and a part of his mind hoping remus hadn't transformed yet, if he had, Peter was ready with his wand to transform into a rat and leave his clothes there.
Heading down the hallway he knocked on the door to the room he knew Remus would be in. Remus had described the place once before and for once Peter had actually been paying attention because it had sounded so cool. Using the door handle, Peter opened the door to see his friend in front of him in the dark dank room. It was surprising that they let Remus stay in these conditions and it was no way near as cool as Peter had thought it would be, instead, it made Peter feel sorry for Remus, something he rarely did, and made him wish he'd learnt faster how to become an animagus. "Remus! We have a surprise!" He said, grinning, waiting for the other two to break the news. They were better friends with Remus after all.

It didn't take long for the closet door to open and or James' hand to appear and drop the clothes in front of him. He put on his clothes again, and the only reason why he had taken them off was so that Peter didn't have to feel like he was the only one who had to do so. He walked out of the closet and tousled his black hair, and finding himself almost face-to-face with a very excited Peter, who for once didn't have a tail after transforming back into human form.
"Great job, mate," Sirius said with a true smile on his face. He was proud, he had to admit it. But before Peter even had the chance to reply, Peter had already began to bound up the stairs. Sirius exchanged a look with James. Sometimes Sirius felt like he was Peter's older brother instead of his friend, for he always felt like he was teaching or being proud of or scolding Peter for something or another. Typically, he preferred if it wasn't the latter. As Peter disappeared up the stairs, Sirius followed casually behind, taking the stairs two steps at a time with his rather long legs. When he reached the top, Peter was already practically shouting to Remus that they had a surprise. Sirius had known that Remus wasn't in werewolf form, for when Sirius had been a dog he hadn't smelled it.
"When we show Remus, let Peter change first," Sirius mumbled to James under his breath. "I think he deserves it."
Sirius was fully aware that Remus would probably be startled and worried about their sudden appearances there. Possibly even a little ashamed. Sirius stepped in behind Peter with a smile on his face, and met Remus' eyes. He could practically see the beast lurking behind the surface, and it was a bit strange. Never had he seen his friend this close to a full moon, and it was admittedly a little worrisome. Sirius' grin faltered for a split second, worried about what would happen the moment Remus transformed.
"It's true," Sirius said, in a lower voice than Peter. "Been practising for months, we have. Well, I don't want to give it away, really... just try not to prematurely transform into your wolfy self until you hear us through, alright?" It was half a joke, half not. He honestly didn't want Remus to panic and jump the gun - even if that was possible. He stepped a litte closer to Peter just in case, and looked back to make sure that James was indeed still there. James didn't turn around but he could hear the rustle of clothing as Peter dressed. He assumed that Sirius was doing the same and was proven right when he joined them from the closet. Peter's excitement couldn't be contained, he was practically bouncing off the walls. Which come to think of it was actually a good thing. Taking Peter's mind off of not being able to transform completely is probably just the thing that made it possible. He always said the boy worried too much about not being able to. He just lacked the confidence, now he had it, the knowledge that he indeed can do it. Truly delighted for Peter he flashed a broad smile "Fantastic Peter ... I knew you could do it!"
He closely followed Sirius up the stairs, nodding as he suggested letting Peter go first. Frankly he had wanted Peter to indeed be first, just incase he couldn't completely change. Or and this part he worried about, Remus would try to attack them. He knew he and Sirius were better with defensive spells than Peter, if anything happened. Plus if anything did happen Peter as a rat could escape easier than Peter as human.
"Yes, my furry friend, we have been keeping a secret from you. A most amazing secret that will make your furry problem more pleasant." He hinted, not wanting to 'give' it away but instead wanting to calm any panic in Remus of them being here. For if he was in Remus' situation and the three people he cared about the most showed up, putting themselves in harms way, with the potential of being killed, he would panic. "We are here to unveil it..." he paused "Peter" dropping the hint that Peter would be the first. Trying not to worry about Sirius' suggestion to Remus about not changing into his wolf. He didn't want to convey that to Peter for if the boy got scared or worried he may not be able to transform. And THAT would indeed not bode well for them.

Word count: 705 Comments! Just to make the order clear, as I was confused a few times as well.. Let's stick to: Peter - Sirius - James - Remus The moment Remus finally got himself to relax, he froze once more. No, he was definitely hearing something now. Smelling something too. There was definitely something, something.. He sat up, despite his aching joints, in alarm and blanched as he heard Peter's voice. "Remus! Remus it's us! We're on our way up! Stay there!" ' Us'? ' Our way up'? There was more than one person? In less than a second, Remus mind managed to come up with about a thousand doom scenario's, which he wearily shook from behind his eyes, ruffling his hair as though his thoughts were cobwebs that might've stuck in there. Maybe he was just going insane, maybe he was asleep - maybe he was dreaming! No, he could hear Peter's heavy footfall on the stairs, a knock on the door and then his friend stood but a three feet away from him, all glowing with excitement. He scooted back a little, feeling as though his friend was standing in his personal bubble, the wolf in him growling lowly, not so much regarding Peter and his other friends as an immediate threat, but the commotion upset the animal. This is different from the usual routine, it seemed to ask, what is the fuss about? Remus took a few deep breaths and managed to calm himself, but then Sirius walked in - at least as excited as Peter was though he met Remus' eyes and the pale, thin boy almost let out a snarl at the direct eye contact, something which the wolf obviously regarded as a challenge. "Been practising for months, we have. Well, I don't want to give it away, really... just try not to prematurely transform into your wolfy self until you hear us through, alright?" Remus glared at his friends a little pointedly. "It's not something I can help, if I could stop or postpone the transformation, don't you think I would've done so?" It sounded harsher than Remus had meant, but he was more irritable before full moon.. Luckily, on the other hand, Remus was also very, very tired, and hardly had the strength to really be snappy at his friends. Part of him knew they meant well, but couldn't they have chosen a better time to tell him this Grande Surprise? James joined them. "Yes, my furry friend, we have been keeping a secret from you. A most amazing secret that will make your furry problem more pleasant."Remus hardly heard what James was saying, not noticing that his friend assured him this secret would help his condition. All he knew was that they apparently had something to tell him and they were stalling, which got on his nerves immensely. He got up, annoyed, joins cracking, pulling the robe a little tighter about him. "Get on with it, then," he growled, pacing slightly and trying, trying, trying to focus on being human. 'I am Remus Lupin, I am Remus Lupin..' He swallowed, though his throat was dry, and turned to his friends. "I'm sorry, but you couldn't have picked a more rotten timing for this," he muttered, voice slightly rough, but more like Remus now he had managed to focus. "Just.. please get on with it and then we'll discuss it in the morning.. Can't believe you actually came here risking your lives, idiots.." He sighed and sat back down on the bed, careful to keep the robe from exposing any skin. Had he looked feral before, now that he was focusing on his last bit of civility, Remus looked mainly pale and tired, with dark circles under his eyes. "It is a rotten timing," he said again, "but I think I have about an hour until transformation - you think you can manage informing me of this immensely important secret within a time span of forty-five minutes?" The normal Remus would've said it with a hint of sarcasm, but now his voice barely rose above a whisper, hoarsely, and he avoided eye contact with his friends purely to keep the wolf at bay.
