Amos swallowed, frowning and still feeling rather useless and confused as he patted Nessa's hair, mumuring bemused responses to her 'I love you's' and still none the wiser to why she was crying. He wished she would stop, still. Really wished she would. Five minutes ago they were snuggling happily, discussing moving in together and declaring their love for each other and Amos felt on top of the world, surprisingly. It was strange to see how the mood had changed so suddenly, and it was making his stomach churn. His friends, who had previously had girlfriends whilst Amos 'played the field' at school so to speak, had complained of how girls' mood-swings could be horrific at times, but Nessa had never seemed the overly-hormonal type, and so he was at a loss.
It didn't help his confusion any when Nessa denied that it was anything to do with not wanting to move in together. Amos frowned, moving searchingly over her face. Just as though Nessa was not the type to be very hormonal, he had never known her as the type to lie to him either - well, that or perhaps she was such a good liar that he had never noticed - but he preferred to think the former. "Then what..?" He murmured, half to himself. His frown had lessened a little with his worries that he was pressuring Nessa into moving in together, pressuring her even, into saying she loved him, and he leaned in from the searching eye-contact to kiss her again gently on the forehead. But his confusion had not. He was sure these were not tears of happiness. Even if it wasn't something to do with how fast they seemed to be going with their plans, something was wrong.
'I think I might be pregnant'
Amos blinked. Although he knew instinctively that something was very wrong, pregnancy had never even crossed his mind. He was momentarily lost for words, and for a few long moments stared at his hands in silence, looking shell-shocked. After a while though, he realised he was being selfish, and probably not helping Nessa's own state in his silent reeling. As he usually did when not fully thinking straight, Amos let his words fall out of his mouth before considering them first in his head. "Pregnant ... Like.. pregnant with a .. baby? But - But how?" He spluttered, looking up to meet her eyes and softening slightly. He tried to take the shocked incredulous edge of his tone and lowered his voice, remembering too that they were not alone in the house. "It's just.. We've only done it.. We only did it that one time"
Amos Diggory was not the fastest broom in the cupboard, and this extended to his knowledge of sex education. Yes, he liked to think he was rather good at it, but when it came to understanding contraception, or rather, taking an interest in contraception, Amos was egotistical in thinking that it didn't concern him. Which, he supposed, was what helped in leading to this situation. He swallowed, running a hand through his hair and then taken one of Nessa's hands between his own. "Well, are you certain that you are?" He asked seriously, watching her carefully. He was trying to think straight, and finding out for definite if Nessa was - no, if they were - expecting a baby, seemed to be the first logical thing to do.
