Lily was reluctant to go to the valentine's dance. She didn't have a date and nor did she really want one, besides, James was probably going to be there ready and willing to annoy the heck out of her. Not that she minded too much. Of course, it was severely annoying most of the times but sometimes he was nice-ish, to her, but it was his attitude towards others that really made her want nothing to do with him, but she supposed she was sort of used to it now. Dully, sadly used to it.
Another reason not to go was Severus. Lily supposed he might be lurking in the shadows somewhere, ready to apologise to her about what he'd said at the end of last term. Truth was she could have forgiven him if he'd only left his other so called friends behind. They were no good for him and for some unknown reason he just wasn't admitting to it so what else could she do? This was the only way to get it through his head that he was doing wrong. Lily had known Severus for years, she knew he was intelligent but what she just didn't know was why he was getting himself involved in such a dark order, death eaters. It was disgusting and wrong and she had sop hoped that he'd have more common sense than to fall in with that crowd.
And these were just a couple of reasons as to why Lily Evans could be found sitting on a desk in an empty classroom. She was all dressed up, not extremes and noway near as pretty as the other girls she'd seen, but reluctant to go to the dance. She looked to the open door and listened to the sound of music coming from the great hall and knew she'd probably just avoid it, there would always be next year, besides she was a prefect and should probably be patrolling corridors so the others could have a good time, someone needed to uphold responsibility in this place but maybe not straight away, she was going to sit in this classroom, on the first floor near by to the grand staircase and wait just a little longer until hopefully all the couples had arrived and entered the great hall.

It wasn't that James didn't want to go to the dance. All his friends were going to be there. Granted, most of them had dates, but it was always a riot to hang out with the guys. But seeing his mates was not the reason he was tying his tie. He was actually hoping to have a little luck with the ladies tonight. One lady in particular. Alas, as last year when he instead asked Alice Hallows.... James had not gathered the courage to ask Lily. "Sodding idiot. You could have any girl in the school as your date. But you've choked!" Sighing he ran a hand over his head trying to smooth out as much hair as he could. It was really no use though. With a bit of a heavy heart, James Potter left the common room and made his way downstairs after his friends. He was a good deal later than they were. But that was all in the plan. Fashionably late. Couldn't look too eager. Tugging at his vest, with the map tucked into his back pocket and his wand jammed in another, the boy jogged down the stairs, taking them two and three at a time. Not that he was in any rush, and upon noticing his pace somewhere around the first floor, he slowed down a bit so it didn't seem as though he were rushing to meet anyone. It was very fortunate that he did slow down. Else he may never have seen that flash of red hair in a classroom near by. He'd seen it in his peripherals and would have known it anywhere. It was Lily Evans. Stopping he back stepped a little and looked in. She hadn't seen him yet, which gave him the opportunity to admire her for a moment. She looked amazing. Her dress, perfect. Hair, perfect. She was gorgeous. A little smile played at the corner of his lip for a second before he shook it away and stepped quietly into the room. Her back was to him which made it all too easy for him to sneak in. Stepping up he put his hands over her eyes. Lowering his voice he brought his lips just up next to her pale ears. "I'll give you one guess and if you get it right.. I have to kiss you. If you get it wrong.. you have to kiss me." He was being very bold and it made his hands shutter ever so slightly, and his heart race. It did that every so often when he was this close to her. He couldn't help himself. Lily Evans was the only woman he had eyes for. No other girl even compared to her. Now if only he could tell her that. outfit!

Oh, woe was Delilah. She couldn't make up her mind whether nor not she wanted to go to the dance, so she found herself sitting in the Ravenclaw common room with both a dress and flannel pajama bottoms on. Had she been asked to the dance? Yes. Did she accept? No. Her darling James was much too shy to ask her, and she... well, there was no way she could ask him! That was totally backwards, and completely unacceptable in her minds. Besides, there was no way she could accept him as her man unless he manned up for her.
Delilah twirled her blonde hair between her fingers in an absent-minded fashion. She hadn't bothered to do much with it, so it was just hanging straight like usual. Since she didn't know if she wanted to go to the dance, she hadn't allowed any of her friends to put it up in some fancy way. Finally, however, Delilah decided that it couldn't be the worst thing in the world to just take a gander into the Great Hall.
With her burst of motivation, Delilah rushed out of Ravenclaw tower. The rushing came to a halt, however, when she realized that she didn't know who James would be going with. Naturally, she assumed that he was going alone. He hadn't asked her, so who else would he seriously ask? The dreaded thought came to her, however... what if some girl invited him? It sounded impossible, but the impossible regularly happened at Hogwarts. Was she really up for seeing James with another girl, even if it were just a friend-date?
Delilah finally decided against the dance. That was, until she saw James fidgeting with his outfit.
"Wow," Delilah mumbled to herself. The sight of him took her breath away. He looked absolutely stunning. Many said that Sirius was the one to go after, but she couldn't see how so, especially next to that beautiful speciman named Potter. His glasses were charming, his hair was endearing... what was there to not love?
James didn't seem to notice her, and instead disappeared into a classroom. Had he sensed her presence and was trying to lure her into the room as well? Either way, Delilah doubted that he would be unhappy to see her. She began to follow him in, but he was too quick. The door didn't shut all of the way, and Delilah was able to see through the crack in the doorway. He had his hands over some girl's eyes. Who the hell was this bitch?

Lily just sat upon the table absent mindedly fiddling with her hands in her lap, most people would be at the dance soon and she'd be able to sneak out of the room with no one ever having known she was there. She could patrol the corridors as a good Prefect ought to and then retire to the common room. She'd have at least a couple of hours before before everyone started making their way back again and she was certain some people would come back all night, after all there were many adventures to be had within the walls of Hogwarts and the castle was indeed very good at keeping ones secrets.
All of a sudden, out of no where, Lily felt hands fall down over her eyes. She jumped a little in shock and was about to scream out at who she could only imagine was James, when his voice spoke out to her. Merlin he got in under her skin and irritated her. She just wanted to hex him but somehow, somehow he would take that to mean she liked him in a way that would suggest he could ask her out on dates for the next three weeks or so.
Regardless of her frustrations with him, Lily sat and listened to his proposition and sighed. "Well then I suppose my best bet is not to guess at all, that way I avoid all forms of punishment." Lily had felt the tremble of James' hands against her eyes as he had been speaking but presumed it was nothing than a tremor. She placed her hands over his and pulled his hands away from his eyes. It took a second for her eyes to adjust as she turned to face him and from the light of the corridor she could see a figure in the door way, looking in on them. "Rather than playing games with me, Potter, hadn't you best return to your date?" she said, indicating towards the door to the lonely girl that seemed to have been spying on them and Lily supposed that if she had been on a date with a guy, which she assumed was happening here, and her date walked off on her for a bit and into a classroom, then she'd be a little more than suspicious herself.

He was about to come up with some silly quip about her not guessing. Something to do with red tape and the legal matters of the “Guess Who” game. All quite serious business. But she continued to talk; something James frequently found annoying in most girls. However he found himself rather fond of listening to her speak. Even if it was to chide him and insult his personality all together. And thank goodness he'd actually paid any attention to what she was saying this time as he would have never noticed the person in the door way and he was not prepared to make this night a public event.
The second he saw Lily, he knew he didn't want to go to the dance at all. He wanted to show her a better night than that. Of course James didn't exactly know how to do that yet, but he thought he'd just wing it. Hopefully she didn't mind. This was his chance. To prove to her that he wasn't just a schmuck with too much time and money. "Date?" Peering out the door he shook his head. "I don't have a date." His face fell in a most sincere expression. He probably looked silly like this.
It clicked to him that she was accusing him of ditching some girl. "If I had a date I wouldn't just leave her in the hall. I'm smart enough to distract her with something." That wasn't helping his case any. "That's not the point! And IF I had a date shouldn't you be flattered that I left her to see you?" DAMNT IT JAMES!! He did not know how to help himself.
He needed a way to turn this back around to NOT being about him ditching his date. Which he DID NOT have. He'd made it sound so terribly against him that he almost believed he had ditched a girl in the hall way. "Maybe she's looking for you. You are a prefect are you not? Perhaps its just a student who is looking for some help?" There were o of them in the room. There was only a 50 percent chance that the person in the doorway was looking for him. He folded his arms over his chest and looked at her waiting for her to accuse him of something else.

Post by Peter E. Pettigrew on Oct 21, 2011 11:45:57 GMT 1
Peter looked at the figure that was staring back at him. The young boy was unimpressive looking, even in dress robes, Peter noted with a frown. It was a frown that was mirrored back to its owner in the cold hard reflection of the restroom mirror that he was looking in. “This is as good as it’s gonna get,” Peter muttered darkly running a hand through his unremarkable light brown hair.
He was sure that Sirius, James, and Remus had already made their entrance into the Great Hall. It was something that Peter dreaded. He didn’t want to go and he feverishly hoped that something would keep him from the uncomfortable and rather scary school function. He contemplated for a moment the lack of time the Marauders had really been together during this latest school year. But truth be told Peter was not completely adverse to the development, at least for the time being.
Turning from the mirror, Peter slowly made his way from the boy’s bathroom towards the staircases. The occupance of a few pictures seemed to watch his progress in a rather bored fashion until he tripped on a step and came close to finishing his rather unremarkable descent with a rather exciting tumble. Several of the pictures looked to be rather disappointed that he didn’t. Just a little excitement on the stairs, it seemed to be all they wanted tonight.
Most of the student’s had congested around the main doors to the Great Hall. Peter could hear the commotion as he exited the stairs and made his way towards the commotion and sounds of excited students. But the sounds of distant laughter and other sounds held no interest. Instead Peter found himself looking towards a girl peeking into a classroom that should have been empty at this time of night, with a rather unhappy expression on her face.
A welcome distraction from the accursed dance, Peter moved towards the a jarred door to investigate. As he got closer familiar voiced drifted towards him. “Lily and James?” Peter questioned out loud to himself. ‘Shouldn’t they be already at the dance by now?’ He wondered, thinking that it was probably best to not investigate further and to just walk away. But his feet betrayed him and kept going.
Standing right behind the girl, oh whom Peter was sure was a Ravenclaw Peter said. “What’s going on?”

When Delilah realized she had been found out for spying by Lily, he cheeks immediately went red... well, mainly because Lily implied that Delilah was James' date. Had he been planning on inviting her as a surprise the night of? It would certainly be James' style, after all. Delilah was rather worried of being spying eavesdropping, but it didn't seem to be an issue, for a moment later a boy approached she recognized as Peter Pettigrew. The only reason why she knew his entire name was because he was one of James' best friends and, well, any friend of James' was a friend of Delilah's.
Delilah suddenly became hyperaware of the fact that she was still wearing flannel pajamas beneath her dress. She didn't really care, as Peter wasn't the one she was trying to impress.
"Hi Peter," she greeted as if they were long-term friends; not as if Peter didn't know her whatsoever. "I'm not sure but I saw James and follo-" she cut herself off, shook her head and continued with, "I was heading to the dance and heard voices so I was just making sure everything is alright. It's just James and some girl, I don't know what they're doing."
The words 'James and some girl' hurt to speak. She didn't want to say anyone's name after James' except for Delilah. James and Delilah. Delilah and James. Delilah Potter. How nice that actually sounded.

Lily had just assumed that James Potter would have had a date. He and Sirius were the most popular guys in school and as such had girls throwing themselves at them and in turn, they could take their pick of the bunch. Heck Lily wouldn't have been surprised if a couple of guys might have asked the boys to the dance, they were exceedingly well known and even Lily had to admit that they were both fairly attractive in their own ways, though she'd never say it out loud through fear James' head would get too big and he'd never get through another doorway again in his life.
Lily felt almost apologetic towards James and would have apologised if he hadn't continued talking and placing his own foot into his mouth. It seemed that James quite enjoyed the taste of the bottom of his shoe because for some reason, the boy kept blabbering on about how she should be flattered, if he had indeed had a date.
James made a fair point that the girl could indeed be in search of Lily but what would anyone want with a prefect when there was fun to be had at a dance? Surely the prefects were the ones you'd want to steer clear of, the ones you'd want to sneak away from with your partner for a little quiet time, but then again maybe this girls dress strap had broken and had spotted Lily head into the classroom. Lily was pretty good with charms and such and would be able to help out in a flash. But that wasn't what Lily was thinking of right now, she was still thinking about how James would ditch some girl for her. A lot of girls would have taken that as a compliment, especially from James, but Lily wasn't like all the rest.
"You would leave some poor girl just to come and annoy me? You're a pig James Potter." She said indignantly, her brow furrowed deeply as though she were contemplating what curse to use first on him, and all though that thought had entered her mind, she was a prefect and knew better than to hex a fellow student, besides, he wasn't worth getting into trouble. Besides, she heard another voice from outside the corridor, possibly the girls real date though the voice sounded oddly familiar. "Now why don't you just leave me be, Potter? Who ever that is, just take her to the dance and stay out of my sight."

"I'm not taking that girl to the dance, Lily." There was a strange sureness about the mostly mischievous boy's voice. He licked his lips and took in a breath. He'd said it with a slightly elevated tone. He was not a stranger to being called a pig. But hearing it come from her stung a lot more than it did when any other girl called him that. Letting out the breath he contemplated his next move. It was going to be bold and he wasn't entirely sure about it but he'd be damned if he wasn't the bravest guy out there.
He wasn't sure why talking to her was so hard, but he'd been thinking about it a lot recently and was determined to make her listen. At this point it sort of seemed like that wasn't very likely going to happen. She was just as stubborn as he was. Running a hand through his hair he breathed again. Pacing a few times, he tried building himself up. After a few gasping failed attempts at speech, he finally let out an exasperated sigh. "Look Lily, you think I'm a pig and the truth is I'd leave any girl in that bloody hallway just to be insulted by you. To be... hexed in the back of the head by you. No other girl in that hallway is ever... EVER going to be you."
Walking away a little down the row of tables he ran his hand over his face before turning back to her. "I just...." He looked more and more frustrated as he tried to get his point out. "I am not a swine of any sort, you would very certainly see that a little clearer if you.." He put his hand on her chin and tried to give her a smile, "if you would just get off the idea that I'm a horrible person and spend the night with me. No dance. No loud people. No tricks.. I solemnly swear I am up to only good tonight."
Letting his hand fall he brushed his hair back again and let out an accomplished breath. "Now... If you agree.. You'll meet me...Upstairs. There is a window on the fourth floor corridor. The big one on the left...Meet me there..." He leaned in again and whispered in her ear. "I'll make it well worth your while." He nodded once at her and turned away. He was praying to God that she would meet him. Bursting out the door he looked at the two outside. He hopped for Peter that this girl was his date.
Smiling at his mate he patted him on the shoulder and nodded. "Hey Peter." His eyes shot to the blonde. He wasn't really a fan of blonds but she'd be great for Peter. Nodding at her he looked back at his friend and smiled, "You guys should head down to the dance. Have fun. uhh... Tell Sirius that I'm not going to make it down will ya? Thanks mate. Go have fun you deserve it." Smiling again he turned down the hall and jogged up the stairs. He straightened his tie and tugged on his vest before pulling out the map. "I solemnly swear I am up to no good." Gazing down at the pages he found her name and held his breath. "Come on Lily.. Come on..."

James was actually, in his own sort of chauvinistic, ridiculous way, sort of, ever so slightly, backwardly romantic. Lily found herself with a little bit of a chill and turned her head to watch him leave. So her night had not gone as planned and as such she had a decision to make. She sort of felt bad for James because she was now starting to get a real grasp on just how much he liked her but was that enough? He was still an arse to other people, hexing them for no reason other than wanting a bit of fun and to her that wasn't something she wanted in a boyfriend or even in a friend.
Sighing to herself Lily got off of the table and turned to face the door. Her feet wanted to carry her to James because her mind and heart were both telling her to give him a chance, that he deserved at least one but then there was that nagging feeling. He was a bully. And actual bully and she shouldn't be associated with that. If she met with him tonight then she'd just be a hypocrite. She couldn't do that, it was wrong. She'd just stick to doing what she was going to do and that was patrol for a bit and then head back to the common room.
Walking out of the classroom Lily saw Pete and Delilah. She offered them both a smile as she went past but said nothing. Perhaps Delilah was Peter's date for the night. It sure was nice to think that Peter had a girl for the evening and Lily sort of wanted to watch it play out but that was their own private business. She shouldn't pry and so she kept on walking, down towards the dance where she saw plenty of people waiting for dates outside of the hall or just talking to friends and Lily felt guilty once more about James, she couldn't just leave him there it was cruel, she needed to do or say something and she needed to do it before he spent all night waiting for her not to show.
Walking back up the stairs Lily couldn't believe what she was doing. She made her way about the moving stair cases and to a the corner of a corridor that she knew James was on. She stopped and took a few deep breaths, wondering how to handle this. She couldn't leave him waiting in the dark all by himself. How long would he be there for? She either had to put a stop to all this now or agree to one sort of date with him. The only trouble was she couldn't make up her mind what she should do. Stick to her morals or give him a chance?
Lily turned the corner and looked down the corridor to James. She didn't move a step further as she watched him. She'd made up her mind what she was going to say but she wasn't sure how right she was in her decision, but she had to stick to the choices she'd made and so slowly, one step after the other, she started walking towards that window where James was stood waiting. Just waiting for her.

In all honesty, Delilah hadn't heard a word that James had spoken to Lily. She was so distracted by Peter that all of her attention had been put on him. That is, of course, until James exited the room. In all honesty, Delilah found him breathtaking. There was something about him that made her feel warm in the pit of her stomach that wouldn't go away. Just the thought of him could bring a smile to her lips, and she was willing to do anything to make him feel the same way. Sometimes, just sometimes, she felt as if he didn't even know who she was. To her, it was heartbreaking... to be so infatuated with someone who you've never even heard mutter your name.
James' instructions to go to the dance caught Delilah off-guard. He seemed, well, distracted. What could that horrible girl have said to James to make him seem so bothered? She completely zoned out and barely heard James say Sirius' name. Next thing she knew, James had darted away and Lily came out soon after. Without paying attention to anything else, Delilah began to follow James.
She didn't know what her motivation was, other than the fact that she half-expected to find James curled up in the fetal position in the hallway crying his poor heart out and would need some sort of comfort. Delilah was willing to comfort him, hold his hand all night if needed be. She didn't know what upset him so, but he wouldn't even have to tell her if he didn't want to.
When Delilah caught up with James, though, he was not in the fetal position as she had hoped. Instead, he was staring intently at a piece of parchment. She didn't catch what he said, but she felt as if she had just walked in on something important. She also caught a glimpse of Lily, and before she could stop herself she hid behind a corner. Her heart was pounding and she couldn't explain why. She felt as if tonight would be the night something happened - perhaps tonight would be the night James finally acknowledged her.

For a few seconds Peter just stared at the girl. She seemed to know him, she even knew his name. More surprising was that she was civil towards him, which many people were not. “Um… hello,” Peter replied. Feeling more than a little left footed because he couldn’t remember her name. “Sounds like Lily,” Peter said helpfully as her voice rose again in standard Lily can’t stand James fashion.
Peter knew without a doubt that when it involved Lily, James Potter would have no problem with dumping a date if it meant he could trade them in for Lily. James was obsessed with the girl and it had only gotten worse with each year and each rejection she showed towards him. He sincerely hoped that one of these days the girl would crack under the pressure of his constant advances and just go out with him, at least once. At least so that he could shut up about her already and get on with life.
Not that Peter could completely blame her. James could be quit the bloody git at times, but he was a friend and friends could be forgiven just about anything, including being a git. Peter watched silently as one by one everyone started to leave. But peter just stood there, having no intentions of going anywhere with the strange Ravenclaw girl, even though Lily seemed to think he should for some reason.
Turning around and marching himself straight to the Gryffindor common room and off to bed was sounding more and more appealing with each passing second. He glanced towards the direction of the dance, then back at the retreating figures, then back to the dance again. In the end he started following the trio of students.

After practically wearing a hole in the floor, James put the map away. He didn't want to know when she walked the other way. So after a moments consideration he tucked it into his back pocket once more and decided he'd check it again if she wasn't there with in thirty minutes. This of course left James Potter completely unaware of her presence once she'd made it to the corridor; not to mention he also didn't see that Delilah and Peter had also made their way up the stair to his rendezvous point. He'd chosen here because six years ago an eleven year old Lily had reprimanded him for hexing a fellow first year's shoestrings together. A nasty little hex he'd picked up very quickly which didn't just tie the laces together, it fused them together, it fused them together to make them one big long shoe string.... with no end. The victim had to either blast them apart or cut them, and not everyone was smart enough to just slip off their shoes to find some scissors. So the Boys has a grand time watching their prey hop around looking for help.
She may have scolded him, but that was the first time he'd laid eyes on her, and the first time he felt that flutter bubble up from the pits in his stomach. Of course at eleven years old he had no idea what it was, but he had figured it out by now. "Lily I'm so glad you came. I just wanted to say.... NO!! BAHH!!" He was talking to himself.. Again. James never really thought he was fond of doing that. But he couldn't help it!!! As he paced he sighed a little.
Suddenly he was glad he hadn't finished his sentence because as he turned he spotted that burning red hair of hers and smiled. She came! He couldn't believe it himself! Haha!! Jamesy ol' boy!! You finally did something right! Internally he was doing a ridiculous dance and a pat on the back. Outside he nervously gave a tug on his vest and ran a hand through his hair. "I'm...So glad you came."
Practically rushing to meet her, James' almost shaking hands took hers. He was actually speechless, and after staring at her for a while he smiled, "Oh! uh... Are you ready to have the very best night of your life?" His eyes sparkled behind his glasses as he scanned her for any sign of doubt or rejection. He didn't really have the best planning skills and as this was a spur of the moment idea he was very simply making it up as he went along. Only fate would know how this was going to end, but James Potter had made up his mind to be a complete and total gentleman the rest of the evening.

Lily felt a twinge of guilt. She had decided upon the reason for coming up here and she knew she should probably have just left him there, standing alone. At least then perhaps he would have gotten the message that there would never be anything between the two of them. They were just so different from different worlds and still living in their own separate worlds, James was, for all intense and purposes, a bully and Lily couldn't stand the thought of being with someone like him for longer than a second. It just wasn't in her nature to fall for someone like him.
"Look James, don't get your hopes up." She said. He'd rushed forward to greet her, his smile nothing but charming and his tone was nothing but sincere, and yet she would be destroying his night, perhaps she thought a lot of herself for thinking like that but from the way he had greeted her, there was no other way he was going to take her news. She was rejecting him and she had to make a clean cut of it. She didn't hold on to memories like he did, she had no idea why he had chosen this spot of all of the places in Hogwarts, to her it was just somewhere easily described, somewhere everyone knew and a meeting point for many students meeting after classes.
"I can't let you stand here all night waiting for me, James. Just go to the dance or back to the common room, I have to get on with my prefect duties." Lily had no clue that she and James were not alone. She was completely oblivious to all others surrounding them. There could have been crowds hidden around the corners, holding their breaths in anticipation for all she knew and if she had known they were not alone, that Delilah and Peter were also about, she would surly have taken James aside and spoken in whispers so as not to upset him but as such she had not known.
It wasn't exactly the clean break she had wanted, not that there was anything to break away from, but she just wanted to make sure James took her advice, that he didn't do anything stupid and that he would at least say that he would do one or the other. It would have been better for her to just walk away after having spoken to him but that would have been too heartless for her. Just because he wasn't her type, just because he could be an arse sometimes didn't mean she had the right to build his hopes up and smash them down completely to just walk away from him. He was James Potter, she was sure he'd be fine, his crush on her was nothing more than a slight obsession. He didn't really have feelings for her in Lily's mind, he was just doing everything as a bet or something similar, at least right now, that was what she was trying to convince herself but truth was, she felt as though she should feel bad despite thinking that he should never have put her in this position. Merlin everything was so complicated. She should have just yelled after him in the corridor when he left the class room that she wasn't going to meet him. It would have saved all this bother and a walk out of her way. Not that coming up a few steps was her main concern right now.
Notes: LOL It's fine! I enjoy a bit of history, just make it up as you go along!

Delilah didn't understand what wasn't sure what was going on. Why did James have that look on his face? Why did Lily look so... apologetic? Was she... was she...
Delilah realized Peter was nearby. She had caught him in the corner of her eye, but for at the moment, it didn't concern her. Nothing concerned her except what was going on between the bespeckled beautiful boy and the ugly ginger. She couldn't believe the words hitting her ears. Was Lily really turning James down? Had James really been persuing... her? Well, what a guy that was. Going after some other easy girl merely because he was too shy to approach Delilah! It was ridiculous.
"EXXCCCUUUUUSE me?!" Delilah burst out without even thinking. She pointed her finger at Lily in an accusatory manner. She wasn't one to burst out often, but she figured she had enough of playing 'hard to get' with James. Apparently she was playing the role too well as he was persuing some other girl. "Are you really turning down James Potter? Are you mad?"
It felt as if something had exploded inside Delilah. It was completely insulting that Lily was turning down the only perfection that existed in the school.
"What, do you think you're better than him? It's not like you're exactly outdoing him in the looks department," Delilah continued to ramble. "Okay, I mean, you're not terrible, but if he's a ten, you're like a ... seven point five. Whatever. If you're going to turn him down, don't make it sound like he's beneath you or something, you arrogant.... nose rag!"
She could feel her pulse racing and felt as if she could go for more. In all honesty, though, she felt a bit embarassed. She wasn't usually the type of person to have any kind of outburst, particularly at someone she didn't even know. Something about the way Lily spoke just really rubbed Delilah the wrong way, and now she stood there between James and Lily, expecting the absolute worst in return. She couldn't even bring herself to look at James in fear of what she might see. The last thing she wanted to see was disappointment. This really wasn't who Delilah was, and she didn't know where this beast was coming from.
Delilah turned away from both of them and found solace in Peter.
"Did you want to just go to the dance, Peter?" she asked, quite politely in contrast to her previous outburst. In all honesty, she just wanted to work her way out of having to deal with backlash of what she had just done. Peter seemed nice. She really had no clue that he didn't know really who she was.
