No matter how hard Lily tried she just couldn't fall asleep and she had tried pretty hard. She had went into her dorm pretty early with the intent of falling asleep early, so she got a decent amount of sleep, but instead she'd been up for most of the night trying to fall asleep. She just had a lot on her mind that was stopping her from sleeping well. She had event tried reading, thinking it would help her fall asleep, but even that didn't do it. She was as wide awake as she was when she had attempted to lay down on her bed.
Lily looked over at the alarm clock. It read 1am. Yes, it was that late and she was still wide awake. Being up this late wasn't usually that normal for Lily. Usually it was easy for her to fall asleep, but not tonight. She eventually gave up and decided to walk down to the common room. She even got herself a warm glass of milk from the kitchen. Of course she had to sneak down there, but considering she was a prefect it wasn't that odd if she was out after hours. Either way, maybe the would help her relax? She sat down in front of the fire place with her milk. If the warm milk didn't work, well then she wasn't exactly sure what she'd try next. This was pretty much her last hope. She was running out of ideas.

Remus had been doing prefect rounds. No, honestly, he had been doing prefect rounds. That after the prefect rounds, he'd decided to get some other 'things' done was absolutely irrelevant - or was it? Thing was, Remus tended to be a bit of a night owl and was more or less nocturnal depending on moon (and hormone) phases. He'd been tired around ten o'clock, honestly, but - like I stressed before - he had prefect rounds to do with one of the Heads from Ravenclaw, so after curfew he'd set out. He had not at all been in the mood, rather longing for bedsheets, matresses, and pillows, but he was a prefect and it was part of his duty - he knew what he'd signed up for when he'd accepted the badge, so he was doing this.
The bad thing, however, was that after the rounds were done, his mind was too awake to sleep, even if his body felt ready to collapse. Dammit. So after he and the other boy had gone their separate ways, he'd feigned walking to the Gryffindor tower, instead making another round through Hogwarts. Why not? This walking had made him alert and awake, he might as well try if it would also get him tired again. No such luck. Though, honestly, he did find out some interesting things, such as that older students knew full well when prefect rounds ended, and that they also knew how to get into empty classrooms (because, apparently, once you're a certain age broomcupboards just don't cut it?). Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately!), they were not particularly good at silence charms, which meant Remus could hear every sloppy dirty little detail - the upside about that was that he knew which classroom to avoid (and scourgify the next time he had class there, ahem). No, Remus wasn't going to give them detention. He wasn't very keen on walking in on them, plus is was the last week of the christmas holidays - he could cut them some slack, right? (Also, who said he had any proper authority anyway? He wasn't on prefect duty, he was being just as bad as they were. No.. not as bad as they were, but he was also breaking rules - anyway, the gist was the same.)
Either way, he still didn't feel like sleeping. So to the kitchens it was - not for milk, like Lily (it may be noted that Remus was not a fan of dairy products), but for tea. After being handed a hot teapot wrapped in a rainbow-striped tea cosy and being given a mug by more helpful house elves than Remus liked to deal with on his own, he snuck back to the Gryffindor common room in an attempt to lull his mind to sleep a little. It was so frustrating, being physically tired, but his head refusing to stop and start on the stupidest of details. He just wanted to close his eyes and sleep, but apparently even a lack of visual input didn't help much (plus, for now, he needed his eyes to find his way). Quietly entering the common room, he closed the portrait behind him almost soundlessly, the tinkling of his cup against the teapot the only sound he made, though when he turned around he realised there was someone else down here. He frowned a moment, glancing at the clock - it was past 2 am. Either someone was having the same insomniac problems as he was, or.. or what anyway? He couldn't imagine anyone willing to stay up so late on their own (parties, of course, were a different matter altogether!). Walking over to the couch, he smiled a little as he saw it was Lily. "Tough night, huh?" he asked with a bit of a tired grin as he flopped next to her on the couch (nearly sloshing hot tea on himself). "You okay, Lils?" He asked it just to be sure. After all, it wouldn't do if Lily was having trouble sleeping because of a certain bespectabled friend Remus had - if that was the case, he was going to have a serious word with James.. Still, for now, all was fine, and he poured himself a cup of tea before toeing his shoes off and sinking into the couch pleasantly while trying to suppress a yawn. This was good. This had to work.

Lily hadn't really noticed Remus come into the common room. It wasn't until he spoke did she realize who it was, or even notice that he was there to begin with. She of course, again deep in thought so wasn't really paying attention to things around her. However, she smiled when she realized he was there. It would be very nice to have some company and at leas it was someone she got along with. She couldn't imagine what would happen if it had been someone like James who walked into the common room.
She smiled up at Remus and nodded at what he said about it being a tough night. "Yeah kinda" she said nodding. Lily normally wasn't like this though. Sleeping most of the time came to her quite easily. There were times now and again though, nights like this where she couldn't. "You too?" she asked, wondering why he was up this late. She figured it was the same thing, but then again she could be wrong.
She looked over at him when he asked her if she was okay. "Yeah, I'm fine. I just had a lot on my mind tonight that's all and no matter what I do, I just can't seem to fall asleep. I've tried pretty much everything, so...well I gave up." she said with a small laugh. She didn't want him thinking something was wrong and start to worry. "Nice to have company though" she said nodding. "Especially since it's someone I get along with" she replied.

Yes, Remus could be very quiet if he wanted to. Not as quiet as 'wild' werewolves were, because they actually hunted and needed their stealth, but still - he could be quieter than the usual student and he was trying, he didn't want to wake anyone up. He smiled back when Lily smiled at him. At least she was glad to see him. As glad as you could be when being insomniac. Then again.. if there was anyone Lily would have to spend a sleepless night with, he guessed he was one of the better options. Not trying to make himself seem important, but Lily was a good friend, had always been and, he was sure, would always be.
He nodded, smiling a little wider. "Good, good." Remus picked up his cup, blowing on the hot liquid in silence, closing his eyes a moment. Damn, he was tired. Why wouldn't he sleep? "Yes, well, I'm tired, but my head won't shut up - you know?" he laughed softly. "I sound like a nut case, don't I?" Leaning into the couch, he sipped his tea and hissed - still too hot. "You sure you want me for company?" he lightly teased, smiling lopsidedly and a little tiredly.

Lily giggled a little bit when Remus asked if he sounded like a nut case. She grinned, as an idea came to her. "Course you do. I mean I'm your friend aren't I, but it's okay. I still love you anyway" she joked, teasing him. Of course she was only kidding. She'd never really mean anything like that. That wasn't why she was his friend, even if that's what it might have sounded like by saying what she had said. No, she truly did get along with Remus and they had quite a lot in common. Plus, there was also the fact she always had a really good time with him. She really almost looked at him like a brother, no she actually did. He was pretty much the brother she never had.
When it comes down to it there really wasn't anything that she wouldn't do for him. Bottom line was she was glad to have him in her life, even if she wasn't to keen about his friends. She didn't really know Peter all too well, so she didn't really count him. Sure there were things about him that bugged her, but not as much as some of the things James and Sirius did. Those were the two marauders she really couldn't stand. Though again that was probably because to her they were the most annoying. However, for Remus' sake she put up with them. She might not like them very much, but it wasn't going to stop her from being nice to or hanging around Remus.

He couldn't help but chuckle a little as Lily giggled. He wasn't a nutcase, of course. Well. Not terribly much, anyway. Only a bit of a lunatic. "Well, if I go too crazy, just warn me and have me locked up," he joked, grinning and sipping his tea. "You want a cup, by the way? I can transfigure an extra mug if you want?" This is what he liked about Lily. He could laugh and talk with her. Like Lena, she understood him in a different way than the boys did. Remus knew that if he had to choose, he'd have her for a sister in a heartbeat.
"So, a lot on your mind?" he asked. "Is it about the career counseling we had?" As they were sixth years now, the teachers were trying to guide them through the process of choosing a profession and help them get an apprenticeship if they needed one. Remus was more than a little nervous about this, obviously, and to be honest he wouldn't put it past Lily to be even more worried - over absolutely nothing, of course. Lily was brilliant. Tucking his bare feet under him, he cradled his cup in his hands, smiling faintly to himself for no reason in particular. He felt tired, but happy, in a way - at ease, on the sofa with a good friend.

Lily laughed when Remus said warn him if he gets too crazy and lock him up. "Will do" she joked back, smiling. She shook her head when Remus asked her if she wanted some tea. "No thank you. I had something earlier" she stated with a nod. "Thank you anyway though" she continued. Since she had some milk earlier, she really wasn't all that thirsty. Of course the Milk hadn't had the effect she wanted to.. She figured it might help her fall asleep, since it usually always did, but it hadn't this time around for some odd reason.
She nodded at the next thing he said. "Yeah, way too much actually" she stated. She half shook her head, when he asked if the e career counseling they had. "Well, I mean that's part of it I guess, but not the only thing. My thoughts are like everywhere right now." Lily for the most part knew what she wanted to do and knew how to do it. There wasn't much about what they talked about with the counselor that really bugged her. Sure, yeah okay she was somewhat afraid of the future, but not to the point where she couldn't sleep. No, it was other things that were really bugging her and a lot of it, like always, had to do with or came back to her sister. She knew she shouldn't let it effect her, but they'd been so close once and Lily couldn't help but to wish things could be like that again.

He smiled and sighed a little, closing his eyes briefly. For the shortest of moments he tried to convince himself he could go to sleep if he wanted to, but really the moment he closed his eyes his body seemed to relax, but his mind only sped up. Frowning, he shifted a little, tipping his cup a bit too dar and spilling hot tea down his leg. Remus hissed slightly and opened his eyes, frowning at the wet patch that was forming and reaching for his wand to dry the stain. It hurt, but no more than he could take. It might blister a little, depending on how hot the tea had been, he wasn't sure. He'd be fine. Remus was definitely awake now, though, the burnt skin aching slightly, complaining, and the fabric of his trousers chafed. Oh well. Nothing he could really do about it - despite being uncomfortable and with a very awake mind, his body was really too tired to move right now.
Instead, he focused back on Lily. "Want to talk about it?" he asked. She'd just admitted she had a lot on her mind, after all. Normally, Remus would've asked more subtly if she wanted to talk to him about it, but he couldn't be bothered now and he knew (hoped) Lily wouldn't be offended that he asked her so outright. Putting his tea back on the table so he couldn't burn himself this time, he shifted again, curling up in the corner of the couch. His leg still hurt, unpleasantly throbbing and the skin was overly sensitive, sending new, simultaneous sparks of pain up to his brain as the fabric of his trousers moved over it. He still couldn't be bothered to look at it, though, and even if he looked a little uncomfortable, he did nothing. He'd look at it in the morning, when his limbs didn't feel heavy and when Lily didn't have thing on her mind she perhaps needed to share with him.
