It was cold and her flats padded the stone steps up to the owlrey. She was afraid of what Colle might do if she didn't confront him about it. Yes she was madly inlove with Kaine and had a fantastic time at the ball, but there were other things she was worried about. What would her father think? Adeline looked up at the tower covered in bird droppings and sighed. She didn't need to get her father's approval, maybe Kaine wasn't aligned with the death eaters, maybe he really wasn't a Slytherin to the core. She had to talk with Colle and set things straight. She wasn't going away, not for a long time if she could help it, and one way to let someone know that was to be up front with them. Looking down at the parchment she sighed, but was it the right thing to do? Nodding she found her barn owl with a smile and kissed him on the head.
"How's it going little man?" Addie ran her fingers over his feathers and slowly attached the letter to Colle on his little feets. She loved sending letters to people, it was most fun for her, and now that she had people to actually talk to, and the thought of being the talk of the school enlightened her. Adeline was never a popular girl, but perhaps that was because she had really high standards and no one met those standards aside from her own family, and Kaine.
Colle,
I know that you and I have not properly met, aside from the V-Day Ball. Please meet me at the large clock on the fourth level within the hour.
-Adeline Claire
She was nervous, but now made her way there, down the stairs hoping her owl would soon find her. Stretching her arms she smiled this was the right thing to do. If she were to be dating Kaine, she would have to get to know his friends, and hopefully something will come of that. Addie knew that she was dabbling where she should, holding another slip of paper in her pocket she smiled. She would send this one to Kaine after she spoke to Colle. Hopefully he was of the understanding sort. It seemed that way, atleast to her and she meant no harm of what she was doing today.
Humming lightly the frost ladden grounds chilled her to the bone her feet carrying here toward the clock tower. It wasn't that long of a walk, but it was of some great distance, she enjoyed long walks and didn't have a problem with them, but this was important. Her strawberry blonde hair was bouncing just below her shoulders. Climbing the stairs she found her little get away bench and sat down with her nose in some muggle romance novel. It was a good book, but she hoped that he would actually show up. That was something that feared her most. He could be showing the message to anyone in the dungeon. Who knew? What if he brought a mob up here? What if they came and hexed her? Or worse....disgraced her family?

Quidditch was the one hobby that Colle had that couldn’t get him into a severe detention. It’s just his little bit of effort into doing something positive for his House but really it’s just something that he enjoys doing. Not to mention that it’s something he’s good at, being a Beater was also one hell of a good way of relieving stress. Nothing quite beats whacking a ball with as much strength as possible towards another person; very therapeutic. He was on the quidditch pitch this morning, a solitary practice just to get one ahead of the others, but it seemed he wasn’t going to go undisturbed today. He spotted the owl as soon as it flew into the stadium, it didn’t take long for his fist to tighten around the bat in his hand, gaze catching sight of a returning bludger just in time to swing his arm around swiftly, hitting the ball and sending it flying towards the oncoming owl. He didn’t want a distraction from his practice.
Unfortunately he missed the bird and it came flying towards him, pecking him rather viciously on the shoulders, an attack he could feel even through the thick material of his robe. His bat swang through the air once more, this time in a direct attack against the bird, but it’s agility proved to be greater than his own speed and so he dove for the ground, landing steadily upon the grass. Needless to say the Owl was less than impressed with his greeting and so the seventh year Slytherin had a bit of difficulty in removing the letter from it’s leg. He was fully expecting this to be some kind of message from Rabastan, he had mentioned he’d send him word if he were ever needed somewhere, even if it just meeting him someplace. Unfortunately for him (and Adeline) it was something far less expected and a hundred times more infuriating.
When Colle had heard about Adeline from Kaine he’d initially thought that his best friend was playing some kind of ridiculous game. When it became obvious that it was no joke the Slytherin was furious and hadn’t wanted to continue the conversation any further, she wasn’t good enough for him, he’d tried telling Kaine that, but the Gryffindor bitch already had him wrapped around her little finger, he wouldn’t listen to a word Colle spoke. They’d fought over this subject, something that usually only happens when it comes to matters concerning the Dark Lord and Colle’s agreement with the extraordinary wizard’s views.
He contemplated for a long moment whether or not just to stay on the quidditch pitch and ignore the letter entirely, maybe he’d just say something scathing during dinner to her, let her know exactly what he thinks about getting to know her. But then a thought occurred to him and he changed his mind instantly, he knew exactly what he was going to do.
- - -
It took him roughly twenty minutes to get to the meeting place, the weather alone had sullied whatever chance of a good mood she had of him being in. At least he’d arrived though, probably not for the reasons she was hoping though.
Just the sight of her brought a sneer to Colle’s lips and he spoke with a venomous tone before even announcing his presence, she was the reason he and his best friend were currently not seeing eye to eye, “what makes you think I want to properly meet you, eh, Giovanni?” Besides the fact that he was here, of course. Colle came here for a reason, an entirely selfish reasoning on his part, he doesn’t want his best friend being mocked for what he’s fucking. He didn’t want to have the awkward conversations with others when they ask what the hell Kaine’s doing, neither does he want Mr Gates probing Colle for answers to questions he just knows Kaine won’t answer. He wants his life to run smoothly, if that means he has to tell some vicious lies, then so be it.
He was determined not to leave this corridor without having convinced her, or even put reasonable doubt in his mind that Kaine isn’t such a nice guy. If she were anything but a Gryffindor he wouldn’t bother, but this.. this relationship thing Kaine and Adeline have, it isn’t going to run smoothly if Colle’s around.
He walked over to where she was sat and dropped down to sit on the same bench she was perched on. He may not like the mudblood very much but close proximity means nothing to him, his aura’s untarnishable by her presence. His gaze was nothing short of attentive as he watched her, noting everything from the trash book she held to the slightly windswept appearance of her hair. None of it mattered, but observance is a natural trait that Colle possesses and can’t seem to prevent from occurring even when the subject was a Gryffindor pain in the ass.
“If you want to come to an ‘agreement’ for Kaine’s sake, forget it, you’ll be gone within the month anyway.” He spoke airily, as if this were a common occurrence, which to be honest, is what he hopes she’ll believe. He wants her to rethink her choice of boyfriend, not only for Kaine’s reputation and sake, but for his own too.

The heavy sound of footsteps caught her ear and she looked up at the dark haired man walking toward her. He was even taller than Kaine had been and she tried to force a smile but it didn't come. She was clearly nervous about meeting Colle here of all places and she should of done it elsewhere but it was far to late now for changing her mind. "I figured we could have a one on one conversation to let you know I'm not going anywhere Jamison." Her retort was just as snide as what she had received. Adeline has been known for her persistence and one Slytherin wasn't going to stop her from enjoying her life, even if it did in the end wear her down.
Colle sat down next to her and she moved over a bit as if he were carrying the plague. It seemed as if he was and Adeline was not about to catch whatever it was he had. She was a proper girl, from a very outstanding family of Aurors and she wasn't about to let Jamison under her skin. Closing her eyes she took a breath and stared at him, there was no reason to be mean to him, but he was already on that note so she was prepared to defend herself. "I'm not here for an agreement either," that much was true, she was going to tell him the way it was going to be and if he didn't like it he could shove a broomstick up his... "Listen, I don't care if you hate me, a lot of people do right now and I'm okay with this, just because your best friend is with a Gryffindork like me doesn't mean anything. I could of been sorted into Ravenclaw and been one hundred percent happy with the outcome, it is not my fault for where I was sorted, and house rivalries are useless." Something did bother her though, why was he being such a prick. "You've got a lot of nerve deciding who your friend can and cannot go with. If you say I'll be gone within the month, try me." Adeline didn't know why this bothered her so much, or why he was being a complete ass about it all. Standing she walked away from him feeling her hot headedness come out of no where and she turned to him.
"If I were you I would step out of my way, and let us try this out, if it doesn't work? Oh well! If it does, who knows maybe you'll learn to accept that what you cannot change and get over your bloody self and possibly even learn something from it." She was prepared to fight for herself and Kaine until the end, since the novelty of the relationship hasn't worn off and she was in bliss at the moment.

He had wondered why she would pick such a secluded place for them to meet; it wasn’t as if these halls were particularly busy, especially at this time of the day. Was she so sure of herself? Or of him. It took a few moments for him to start paying attention to her words and quite frankly he couldn’t believe what he was hearing, did she truly think that bringing him all the way here to tell him that she wasn’t going anywhere would be a result satisfying enough for a Slytherin? Had she mistaken him for somebody else or was there some seriously dimwitted thoughts circling her head? “This isn’t about your house, Giovanni, it’s about his house,” he snapped right back at her, a warning underlying his tone, a warning not to push him, “I don’t doubt that you’re just about intelligent enough to understand that I don’t mean here at Hogwarts either. You would never be welcome among any of us.” Which in turn means Kaine would be erased from their history, something Colle’s rather reluctant to witness happen.
“And do calm down, there’s no need to cause a scene.” He decided not to comment on her point of him having a lot of nerve, this was mostly for his sake, a concept he would quite happily beat into her skull if it required it. Without actions though there’s only words to rely on, “do you truly think you’re the first ‘girlfriend’ of his that’s attempted to give me this talk? You’re another in a long run, Giovanni, you’re just too hopped up on hormones to realize. Don’t worry, it’ll hit when you’ve fucked away your dignity and everything settles, he’ll leave you strung high and dry, just like the others.” He’s hoping Kaine’s father and himself have enough to influence Kaine into preventing this from going further than the end of the year at the latest.
Anger flared to life in his chest, suddenly rushing through his veins like a wave of lava, fuelling the intense hatred within him into one poisonous glare. For a moment all that occupied his mind was the very vivid image of her demise, a fast forwarded broken slide show of a nurtured hatred for her very being. Oh how he’d love to hear her cry out in pain, to watch a sense of hopelessness take over her after an onslaught of well rehearsed curses from a wizard of Colle’s alignment, that would give him the most pleasure right now. However, whilst within the walls of Hogwarts he has to keep that particularly brutal side of his nature locked away behind what little self control he actually has. He kept his wand within his robe pocket, tearing his gaze away from her before the sight of her pushed him over the edge.
“Mudblood filth like you would never be in my position-” a smirk quirked at the corner of his lips, still resolutely looking away from her, his tone devoid of all emotion except a smug certainty in himself and a cold amusement at her words, “-which is why you’re a pathetic naïve excuse for a witch. I was going to feed you some bullshit about how this farce would only damage both your reputations, but truthfully Kaine shouldn’t be sullying himself with.. well, you.” His gaze flickered back to where she stood as he emphasized that last word, the look he gave her nothing short of extremely critical. He let her witness just how little she was to him in his eyes, the lack of worth that he truly believed he saw within her. No, he would not just sit by and let his best friend ruin himself like this. He wouldn’t let him betray his family.
“Believe me, the quicker you understand that, the better.”

She stared at him in disbelief her heart was racing and she took a step back for a moment shaking her head, curls swaying. He was wrong. He was completely wrong about her. His words stung her deep, she knew that it was wrong, she knew that dating a Slytherin would be digging her own grave, but she didn't know it would hurt him, that was the last thing she wanted. "Why does it matter Jamison?" Her voice was a little britle and broken when she spoke. "Just because I'm the first Gryffindork in my bloody family line doesn't mean crap to me! I should of been in Ravenclaw, even my brother agrees, but just because of the ruddy house I was placed in I am forbidden to fall for a Slytherin. It doesn't make sense, it shouldn't be the way it is." She was losing it slightly, he was clearly cold, ruthless and blunt, her heart pounded against her rib cage and she looked down at her feet. "If I was in Ravenclaw, you wouldn't have an issue with me, instead all of you Slytherin's make judgements based on where we're put, it doesn't mean anything!" This was what she believed, she believed that anyone had a little bit of good in them. Taking a breath she turned from him, she didn't know why he had her flustered, but it was true, she didn't want Kaine to be disowned by his friends and family, look at Sirius! Every single one of them hated his guts because he's a blood traitor.
Clenching her jaw, she had a lot to think about, leaning over the railing looking at the large cogs for the face of the huge clock she turned back to Colle, her head lowered in defeat. "You are right, but that won't stop me, Jamison. I do not plan of fucking away what every dignity I have, but I want you to realize that he had the choice to say no, and he didn't, he picked me." She looked back up at him with a sickly sweet smile, "you are just envious, that I have the attention of your best friend, and I am attempting to make right with you and let you know that I mean him no harm. At heart I am not a Gryffindor, isn't that all that matters?" She took in a sharp breath, she could feel black waves rippling off of his entire body, so she slowly backed away from him toward the face of the clock again, it was a long fall, but she didn't care. Fear streaked across her face. The darkness in his eyes was ever so potent so she kept her distance.
Words, that cut deep, she stared at him. "I am not a mudblood," her chest heaved as she spoked through clenched teeth. Adeline had no clue how to handle this situation, she was an idiot, she was the dumbest girl in the world at this moment. Why did she make the decision to meet him here of all places? "I was just trying to make nice." She wavered on her feet and turned away from him wiping her eyes. Perhaps she would die and old cat lady. "I really do like him, I don't want to hurt him, but he was the one that said...that...said that...you just wouldn't understand..." Sniffing she looked away and wiped her nose on the sleeve of her jacket, eyes puffy she turned to looked at him. Hair covering her face looking at him. "Kaine was the one who wanted to go with me...he actually cares, I know it." A shiver ran through her as she quickly noted escape routes even though she wouldn't need any. "Why can't you let it pan out and see where it goes? Why do you have to be a jerk about everything?!" She was getting frustrated with him, she really just wanted to see Kaine and be with him and smile, but she couldn't not with Colle here. Adeline was surprised that she actually let herself cry.

His anger never wavered; the emotion surged beneath the surface, just waiting to rear up and take over pure common sense. He does try his utmost best to control his temper; the snide and often unwanted comments he speaks manage to keep him content enough. There just doesn’t seem to any long lasting sense of wellbeing for this Slytherin without the initial need to degrade somebody else. There was something about Adeline though that just irritated the hell out of him, her presence alone was enough to make his insides squirm with distaste. Colle’s parents managed to do a pretty good job in raising their son to follow their footprints; family honour means one hell of a lot. “If you’re going to fall to pieces can I request we continue after you’ve visited the Infirmary for a new backbone?” He doesn’t really appreciate many females company as is it, their mood swings (the Slytherin females were especially prone to these) always leave him stunned and unsure, which is then followed by a wave of sheer annoyance. “Oh shut up!” He barked out suddenly, shooting her a cold glare, “I couldn’t care less what House you’re in, it’s you I have the problem with. Your very existence is the pain in my ass. I hate you. You’re my issue. Any other ways you want me to say it or do you think you’ve got it, hm?”
Colle’s jaw clenched as he was accused of jealousy, fingers curling into his palm, tightening into loose fists as his body tension rose just a little, “oh please, like I need his constant company. Kaine isn’t my pet, Giovanni, he’s not something to be fought over. Even if he were, do you really think he’d pick you? There are dozens of others like you, all of which have noticed every attribute you see in him. There’s only one of me. The choice is more than obvious.” A scowl marred his features, a low growl adding a touch of bass to his tone, “you’ll harm him regardless of your motives.” There was no holding back his disgust in that moment, she had no clue whatsoever. “You’re already beginning to crack his life at the edges, how long do you think this’ll last before you both get hurt?” If not by the failure of their relationship then by the students themselves intervening. Most will do it simply for House pride, but there will no doubt be a few Slytherin’s true to the Dark Lord who’ll curse their every movement.
He knew that his words had affected her more than she was letting on, those tears shining in her eyes proved just that and it honestly made him feel so very satisfied. She wasn’t quite sobbing, which would be much more preferable, but for now this was enough. “We’ve come to conclusion that you mean nothing to wizards like me, so don’t start a debate on what you are, mudblood, pathetic, useless, worthless-“ here he glanced up and down her body slowly, a mocking smirk on his lips, “-underdeveloped.” He just couldn’t resist, in that moment there was something very male and clearly unimpressed in his gaze, “pick one, though they clearly all apply.”
When she turned back around Colle really has to suppress the smirk from quirking to his lips which he managed well enough, the amusement in his eyes could not be hidden though. There was no way he was looking away from her, this would be a sight that he’d remember for a while, the Gryffindor bitch covering the shame of her tears from his view. This was the type of socialization that always entertained him, regardless of who it is before him. “There’s your first mistake, Giovanni; trying to make nice. Learn this lesson now, that isn’t possible.” He stood back to his feet casually, rolling loose the tension from his shoulders once upright. He wanted this conversation to go somewhere, if that meant making his stance that much more intimidating, then so be it, “he actually cares, does he? Tell me something, Giovanni, would he have even have noticed you if you hadn’t approached him?” He knew all about her little trip to the dungeons just to find the other Slytherin, he’d heard a few second years gossiping about it, much to his annoyance. “You’re keen, you want him and yea-” he paused to smirk wickedly, a smug confidence radiating from him, “-me and him had a right laugh about that. Has he started requesting long walks or ‘someplace more private’ yet? Trust me, once he’s used you up he’ll throw you back to the vultures of this school.”
He moved forward a few feet, circling a little so she stood between himself and the clock, not necessarily trapped, Colle wasn’t planning on initiating any violence But with a drop behind her and him effectively able to prevent any other retreat, he was hoping for ever more heightened emotions, he wants to watch the strong Gryffindor crumble. He actually smiled as she insulted him; he’d been called far worse than ‘jerk’ in his lifetime and this stung no more than usual. “Why do you have to be so fucking selfish? It’s plain for everybody to see that nothing good can come of this. So you must plan to ostracise him further from his friends, from his family. What a vindictive, malicious, wreck of a Gryffindor you are.”

Adeline's lip quivered, as he spoke, she didn't know how to defend herself anymore and his words burned through her stone skin, malice was radiating off of him and tearing her down. Wavering on her feet she kept turned away from him, sleeves to her face trying not to show her weaknesses, but it was to late for that. Colle was up on her like a shark on the scent of blood. "YOU SHUT UP!" She snapped at him, anger was boiling up from her toes and she was tired of taking the brunt of his words, they stung and burned and they hurt. That little saying 'sticks and stones can break my bone but words will never hurt me' it's a lie, words hurt more than those other things, there is a difference between physical pain and that which a person can bring onto you. "Why can't you let a small hole in your ego and actually listen to me?!" She screamed at him, tears streaming off her cheeks and splattering the floor in little circles. "What the hell is your problem with me? Why do you hate me so much? I've not done a damn thing to you!" Adeline was more than fed up with him, she could feel her fingers twitch just at the sight of him. No, she knew fear and this wasn't it, she wasn't afraid of Colle, there was only one Slytherin that instilled that fear in her, and that was Carrow. This was sheer anger.
She took a step forward from the railing protecting her from a fail that would surely end in death. He kept talking and she heard every word of what he was saying, she wasn't sure if he even knew who she was, or what she could do. "He's not your pet no, but he is your friend, you're just envious that his life is going better than yours at this moment, you're pissed off because he's happier than you. I may be a mudblood, pathetic, useless, worthless and underdeveloped, but you clearly don't know me. I'd rather be happy while I'm all those things. You just cannot stand someone who is happy around you, you cannot express joy unless you are harming someone to get your emotional high. Right now, you're having the time of your life, because you don't know the meaning of true happiness and you never will." Her tears had stopped, instead she stared at him coldly and her posture returned to upright and proud. "You will never know what it's like to be in my shoes. You don't think I know this?"
She knew it wouldn't work, nothing was going to get through to him. "You are such an egotistical bastard you know that? You've built walls so high no one can get through them and that's not a good thing, I have been in the same emotional state. My trying to make nice won't work because you're too dense to accept that with which I'm handing out. You don't try because of your high pureblooded status, you think that you are up on a pedestal and no one can touch you, but over time the that pedestal will corrode and you will fall. Those below you will have to pick up the pieces and you will have to thank them for putting it back together. The superior will crumble and they will only have the mudbloods to thank. Is that a world that you want? I know I don't want a world like that." She was letting on her true feelings now. She wasn't malicious in the least, but he got her going, and she wasn't going to stop. "How nice would it be to have a pureblood not from the inner circle, one of these days your circle will all be inbred fucks, born with defects that magic cannot repair, diseases that will forever circulate your life style. I don't want us purebloods to crumble, unlike what you thought I believe in purebloodedness too Jamison, I just don't want our world to fall because of some mistake you righteous pureblood zealots have caused. Inter-family breeding can only go so far until the lot of you will die out before reproduction can occur, you all will die young, and those purebloods who believe in mixed blood breeding will be ontop. Is that what you want?"
She forgot about Kaine for a moment she wasn't concerned with that subject anymore, not now not that he pulled more points about her being a mudblood and worthless. Those words stung her but she would manage. "I highly doubt that, Jamison, I cannot believe a word you say because you don't know me, you never will because you won't make the attempt to know me. You don't know my beliefs, you don't even know what it is my family is trying to do. Just let shit pan out for once instead of trying to end it before it even has the chance to flourish. You cold ruthless excuse for a man, you will not make your family proud if you cannot find someone to help carry your name. With an attitude like that no one will want to be with you, not a single person in the world would care to be with you." She took a step toward him and looked up at his cold eyes, his dark hair and his features. "Jamison, you are the one who is going to die cold and alone, you are the selfish one, if you weren't you wouldn't be interfering, you would be attempting a friendship with your friends girlfriend, you would try and make nice, you would try and understand where Kaine is coming from. You would try and find out who the hell I am before you make false accusations. I'm only a wreck of a Gryffindor because I am not one at heart. I told you this before. Just have a fucking open mind and maybe you'll get somewhere. Hate will break you down eventually."

Shitshitfuckshitfuuuucckkk....!
Kaine was heading up to the corridor beneath the clock as fast as his lanky legs could carry him. Even from the floor below he could hear raised voices, one male and one female. His sister was right....Colle and Addie were up there, and it did not sound like the conversation was going well.
Goddamit Addie....why do you do this to yourself?? And Colle...ahh shiiiiit....
He legged it up the last few stairs and came out onto the corridor where the pair were standing face-to-face and worryingly close. The fading daylight shone in through the windows and hit the other two stood a few feet away, almost nose-to-nose in anger. Kaine could feel the hatred pouring off of Colle from here, and he could see that Addie was more than a little scared.
"Colle," he called out, his voice echoing around the walls of the suddenly very empty corridor. He stood, legs slightly apart and hands clenched into fists at his sides. He was angry with both of them...one for being stupid and not listening to him when he had said there was no point cornering Colle, and the other for being so pig-headed and arrogant that he thought he could get away with making Kaine's girlfriend scared and insulted. Seriously, how did he get himself into these positions??
"Leave her alone," he continued, taking a few steps towards them. He knew Colle was easily wound up, especially at the moment with everything else going on, and Kaine refused to have Addie at the wrong receiving end of Colle's frustration. It wasn't that he didn't trust his best friend not to do something stupid on school grounds....he just knew the thoughts would be running full-pelt through Colle's mind and sometimes, things happened without people realising they'd done it.
He'd also heard some of the things the pair had been throwing back and forth at each other during their argument. Kaine was pissed. He hated people assuming they knew anything and everything about him and how he felt or what he thought. There was only one person who knew that, and that was Kaine himself. He'd had enough in his life of his damn father getting down his throat and assuming he knew Kaine inside out. He was not going to have his friends and girlfriend doing the same. Kaine would rather be completely alone than have that for the whole of his life.
"I think we need to have a little chat," he said, eyes narrowed at the pair stood before him. He could feel how tense he was; shoulders stiff and hands still clenched. His lips were pursed in a small, very annoyed little frown, and there was no sign of the usual happy spark in his eyes. "Now...step the fuck away from each other, and certainly don't say a damn word until I say so. We've now got the whole of fourth year running around spreading rumours about what it was that you two were arguing about. You weren't exactly quiet when you were discussing MY fucking life!"
Kaine did not want to have this conversation...he really didn't. Why oh why did the two people he was closest to also have to be the two people who really wouldn't get on?? Kaine sucked at life sometimes.
His heart had taken flight to his shoes when his younger sister had ran into the common room and told him about what was going on upstairs. Bless her....she always thought of her big brother first. She didn't care he was dating a Gryffindor....she just wanted him to be happy. Which was why she'd run like a loon to find him and tell him what was going on.
Now, looking at the two people he cared about most in this world, he felt his heart sink and most of his resolve run away into a little puddle somewhere. They would never get on, they would never accept each other....and Kaine would just have to make himself comfortable in this little spot in the middle he'd made for himself.
The anger was still there; he could feel it burning his insides. How he was going to sort this...he had no idea...

There’s one thing in this world that Colle despises more than anything and it was currently occurring right before his eyes. Somebody he deems as scum thought herself important enough to scream at him, her anger boiling over into a wave of frustrated words. She just seemed utterly incapable of understanding Colle’s reasoning for why he’s saying the things that he has been, that was almost as infuriating as just being stood here in her company. With every passing second the urge to push her over the edge and watch her body fall grew ever more tempting. If anybody knew Colle well enough they’d be able to tell just from one look that he’s not really paying attention, his mind’s swam off into a sea of thoughts he considers better than what’s currently offending his ears. The important bits just about managed to worm through to his conscious, which really isn’t a good thing. Blue eyes narrowed once more, the extent of his hatred has never really been reached, right now, with a subject as sensitive as this, he was nearing his limit.
“You shut up.” When he finally spoke his voice was almost dangerously calm, the tone not quite matching the burning anger in his eyes, “you’re deluded in so many ways, Giovanni. You think me envious? You couldn’t be any more wrong. For somebody who hates such quick judgement upon herself, you’re sure as hell eager to judge others, stop being a damn hypocrite and just SHUT UP!” So he lost his calm before he’d finished speaking, his fists clenching into tight fists at his sides, the urge to pull out his wand and curse the sanity from her bones rising to almost unbearable levels. It would be so very easy, her screams could be so very easily muffled his own hand over her mouth and if she lost her breath completely then so be it. Her corpse would make an appreciative additive to the corridors. “I’m having the time of my life, am I? Hardly.. The fact you cried is hilarious, but I could think of other things I’d much rather be doing right now.”
Her rant left him visibly shaking with rage, knuckles now turning white as his very beliefs were scorned by somebody he saw as pathetic. She had no right to speak of things that she only thought she knew about. The Dark Lord had taken those ridicules and he knew a way to keep the Pureblooded families of this world on top and out of harms way, he believed in that entirely and here she was questioning the only other person Colle looks up to other than his own family. Before he even knew what was happening his fingers wrapped around his wand, the wood warm beneath his palm as if resonating with the emotions of it’s owner, fury as red hot as heated steel seared through him, “you little bitc-”
”Colle.”
The familiar voice caught his attention and almost immediately his anger ebbed to a controllable level, his fingers slipped away from his wand, his cold gaze tearing away from Adeline’s form to acknowledge the arrival of the root of this argument. His best friend looked pissed and Colle honestly expected no less, perhaps now she’d see a side of him that she may not appreciate as much. Colle knows just how much it takes to get Kaine angry and even though he’s pretty sure that the reason he’s so furious is himself he could plead innocence, he wasn’t the one to arrange this particular meeting. In his eyes, it’s not his fault.
Kaine’s words were abrupt and rather too close to an order for Colle’s liking, but all the same he backed off, not willing to get into an argument, particularly not a fist fight with the other Slytherin. His shoulders fell a little as muscles relaxed, his body falling back to sitting on the bench they’d both previously been perched on. With his arms folded across his chest and back hunched he still looked pretty furious, it was all to obvious that he despised Kaine’s choice in girlfriend. “You sure as hell know how to pick them, Kaine.. Merlin knows she’s a fucking ridiculous choice.” Not only because of what she stands for but because of what she’s done, what possible outcome could she see from a conversation between herself and him? Everybody knows that the Jamison boy isn’t somebody to cross in the corridors, particularly when he’s in a bad mood. “And I ain’t the one shouting! She’s the one who can’t control the volume of her fucking voice. I thought it best to not shut her up though, I doubt you’d appreciate that even less.” His tone was nothing more than mumbled but every word clearly pronounced, he knows Kaine will know exactly what he’s hinting at. If she were anybody other than his best friend’s latest conquest he’d have shut her up long, long ago, at least he’d shown some restraint. He’d want at least some praise for that.
He fell silent for a bit after that, averting his gaze from the both of them to watch the clock instead, he wouldn’t appreciate being spoken to like a child, neither would he appreciate all the blame being laid upon his own shoulders. If Kaine picked her side entirely there would definitely be a tantrum brewing within this Slytherin, in his eyes Kaine should be thinking along the same lines as himself.
If not.. Well he’d get his revenge on the little Gryffindor soon enough.

Eyes starting to water up again staring at him, Adeline had nothing left to say, fear was struggling from her pores as if it was the last breath she was going to take. Colle's anger was gribbing her so coarsly that she could literially feel the hands of darkness upon her. There was no possible way a breath was going to be able to enter her lungs, quickly she took in her surroundings, she was a dumb bitch, she made the wrong decision and now she was going to pay for it with her life. Tears started rolling down her cheeks once more, moods swaying. She didn't want to die, but the anger in his voice had her frozen where she stood. Sobs heaved and there was no way that she would be able to conceal this from him. Wanting so much to hit him, but knew it would only make matters worse.
Inferior, that was the only word to describe what she was feeling and it wasn't a good feeling in the least. Addie felt small in the eyes of this Slytherin student, and she hated it, she hated him and everything about him. It was hard to find her voice in the very least, all she could do was stare at him her hands in fists at her side. There wasn't going to be enough time to grab her wand if anything happened, it was tucked in the pocket of her sweater. At this moment in time she was helpless and afraid. "Just stop..." tears were rolling down her cheeks and neck, she could feel the hotness weave into the fabric of her dress and down her front. She couldn't remember the last time she cried like this. Perhaps it was when she was grounded and not allowed to play her violin. Even though she hardly knew where her parents were while she was at school, she loved them to pieces and, if this was it, would never see them ever again.
Thinking about her family, she started to cry heavier. Her brother would be making fun of her for being weak if he saw this, but there was no way that he would of let this conversation go this far. If she were to die today she would never see her brother or father again, nor her mother. Never had she witnessed this fear, it was true, Jamison has now just topped Carrow for the intstillation of fear in an individual. Adeline did not hear the footsteps coming from the far side of the corridor and when she heard his voice she wavered, almost as if she could breath easily again.
The two of them were still face to face, Addie back to the railing and Colle pretty much holding her hostage until he stepped away, though she could still feel the rage rushing at her from him. Her knees found the ground and she slumped down wiping her eyes. She never wanted this, she didn't intend for this to go as far as it had. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She had fucked up and she knew it. Just being able to breath was nice, but now the anger she felt coming from Kaine was something she couldn't help but feel guilt for. This was all her fault, every little bit of it was her fault. Looking up at Kaine from the ground tears threatening to fall again she couldn't help it.

Well this was ever so slightly awkward. Colle was sitting in something resembling a sulky silence, and Adelaine was in a soggy, sobbing heap on the floor. Kaine stood there, hands in his pockets and just stared them both down. He was not in the mood for this.
Colle was his best friend…his oldest friend. He could be a complete asshole when he wanted to be…which was really quite often, but he was still the closest thing Kaine had to a brother. He certainly wasn’t going to let him go too easily. He also didn’t want to let Adelaine go, or let her get in between him and Colle. But he knew that the two of them were never going to get along…ever. Kaine had this complete inner turmoil going on and on inside him…and he hated it. Somehow, the poor Slytherin-who-didn’t-really-want-to-be-a-Slytherin-and-really-didn’t-seem-like-your-stereotypical-Slytherin managed to get himself into the most annoying of situations. And nine times out of ten…they just couldn’t be helped.
Damn emotions getting in the way of everything. Adelaine was still on the floor, her sobs echoing miserably around the now otherwise silent hallway. Kaine sighed, one hand running through his hair and pulling slightly in frustration. He honestly truly did not know what to say. Whatever he did say, however, one of them would dislike it. How could he keep both of them happy?
“How, in the name of everything magical, did you think that meeting Colle on your own in a damn empty corridor, would be a good idea?” Kaine asked her, glancing down at the still snivelling Adelaine on the floor. His voice was surprisingly calm; he was really quite proud of himself. It was very hard to keep a level hard in such…well, awkward circumstances seems like far too much of an understatement right now.
“You know what he’s like,” he continued, glancing up at said grumpy Slytherin as he did so. “He’s my best mate…my brother. He’s someone I trust more than anyone else and he’s the only person who knows exactly what I’m like and how I feel. He’s also very strongly opinionated on…certain things. But no matter what you think, or what you say or do, he won’t change. And certainly not for a Gryffindor. Plus…I wouldn’t want Colle to change. Not at all.” He looked again at Colle, a whisper of a smile on his face. “He probably hates me saying this, but I really don’t care. We may even have a bit of a fight later…but sod it.”
He walked forwards and sat himself on a ledge sort of halfway between the two. “By the way Colle,” he continued. “That flower you were after is currently sat in your room. I managed to get one last night. Hope it’s ok.” There…something of a peace-offering to the hot-blooded boy. Now just to sort out the mess on the floor. Kaine looked down at Addie and poked her lightly with his toe. “Want a tissue?” he asked. “I hear they’re good for tears and stuff.” He was a bit useless with crying girls…his sister was too tough to cry often…or ever. Kaine usually found it easier to walk away and leave the sniffling to other people to take care of.

Anybody would have thought that Adeline falling to her knees and crying would have made this Slytherin laugh. Everybody would have been very wrong. A sneer marred his features, blunt and cruel worlds on the very tip of his tongue but held back simply due to respect for his friend’s presence. Or was it? Respect for anybody is a bit of a leap for Mr Jamison, he respects himself and holds only a little towards anybody he actually likes. Being cruel to Adeline with Kaine present wouldn’t do his side of the argument any good, he may not want Kaine to be anywhere near her but there’s no way he wants her to think it’s because he’s jealous. He truly doesn’t believe that Kaine would ever pick between the two of them and if it did come down to it he’s pretty sure the other Slytherin wouldn’t just abandon him. Colle can’t say he trusts many people, but he does trust Mr Gates.
A smirk quirked at the corner of his lips when Kaine’s hand passed through his hair, he was stressed out, that was plain enough for anybody to see. Colle probably should have felt a little guilty for that, but instead there was definitely a sense of satisfaction. It may have something to do with the fact that he knew that Kaine expected something like this from him. He also knew that his friend was all too aware that Colle was far too lazy to have ever actually have gone out of his way to see Adeline, she had caused his panic and the rush to this very spot. Ok, it was because he was worried about what Colle would do, but this situation wouldn’t have arisen if it weren’t for the invite he’d received. It had been such a perfect opportunity.
”You know what he’s like.”
A dark eyebrow rose in silent questioning as Kaine glanced over to him, expecting something that would simply annoy him to come from his mouth. Instead he got a rather flattering few sentences of praise. Or what he’d consider praise anyway, not to mention the close family status he labelled their relationship as. If that were truly true then Kaine would have no choice in what path of life he follows, it would have been set down in stone. Colle had no choice. But then he’s never tried to break free of that path, he doesn’t want to.
“The ‘Gryffindor’ thing ain’t the reason I don’t like her, Kaine,” his voice was nothing more than a muted growl. His arms were still crossed over his chest, with his height and the previously bubbling anger only just fading in his eyes nobody would really want to approach him anytime soon. However, this is Colle in one of his most controlled moods, whenever the other Slytherin is around him he can even be somewhat civil to those he may not necessarily like. Adeline’s gone beyond any kind of civility though. Nobody lectures or yells at him. He ran his hand through his hair, a habit he’s picked up from the other present male, shifting forward to sit on the edge of the bench, leaning forward enough that a curtain of hair fell over his shoulder, “Can we go? Before you start growing lady parts?” He was tired of all of the honesty now and those tears from Giovanni were just starting to irk him.
“You got it..?” A glimmer of surprise became evident on his expression for a moment. He glanced at Adeline and then back to Kaine, he may have thanked him in private, maybe even asked him how he did it. Colle’s very private though, he doesn’t particularly want anybody to find out about his ‘extra credit’ potions lessons, especially not something like her.
“I have better things to do then, I’m not sitting around and discussing my feelings or any of that shit,” he slapped his palms against his knees gently, standing to his feet somewhat gracefully, glancing at Kaine as he did so, “y’coming?”
He so hoped he would.

Watching as Kaine held her attention she sighed trying to keep control of her emotions, boy did she have a lot to say to him, but she held her tongue like he had asked. Kaine spoke to her and she looked down wiping her eyes dry. "Obviously it was not, and I am aware of that now, I'm very sorry." Looking up at him she brushed off the skirt of her dress and looked across the way at Colle, maybe there was some sort of good in him, just something but she couldn't see it, not now, perhaps later.
"That is the last thing I would want to do, I don't want to come between the two of you, but I want to be with you. I was just trying to get along with him for your sake," she looked over at Colle a little and huffed another sigh. "Definitely, it was a wrong decision to even try," her lip twitched and she turned to Kaine, fiddling with the ends of her sleeves. Agreeing more with herself she stared at the ground. "I'd rather know why he hates me, since he seems to not care which house I come from, but he's not given me the liberty of that knowledge." Adeline had seen this same scenario play out in her common room.
Some girl had come between a guy and his best mate, they fight until they come to terms with it and usually they end up leaving the girl. Which in turn leaves the other girls to console the one that had just ended a relationship. She never understood feelings like that, she never had to chance to experience them, she had the love of her family and that was all she needed, until now. Kaine was something more, much more, and she wanted to stay with him as long as the two could. Not to say she wasn't particularly excited about the way he has handled the situation, but in all honesty, she was.
The offering of a tissue made her smile a bit and she shook her head. "No, but thank you, I'm alright." The instant Colle piped up she turned her attention to him and took in a really sharp breath. "Then what is it Jamison? Why do you hate me so much? I've already told you and Kaine that I don't want to come between the two of you, but you have to remember that in the end all you have left are your friends and your family, and without them you'll be nothing but a shell." Adeline spoke calmly and carefully, she didn't want to rouse the argument up again and she definitely didn't want to have an ongoing qualm. "I don't know what home life for either of you is like, but you have to make the most of what you're given, and only you can change your future, it's not set in stone after all, more like wood, you can carve it in but it still is able to be sanded out. Keep that in mind."
Colle appeared to want to leave and she nodded, after all she was used to being by herself, she hasn't seen or heard from her parents or Oliver since winter break. It's hell on a seventeen year old, so she had learned to adapt. "Go, have man time, we can talk later, after dinner perhaps. I need to get some homework done anyway, charms and divination, shouldn't take to long." Addie shrugged and looked at the both of them. "Honest, I'll be okay, just make sure he's going to be okay with this. I want it to work, but I don't want to get in the way of anything."

Ah geez...
Kaine looked between the pair again, his anger still fuming just below the surface. Most of him urged to follow Colle, to go have a rant with his best mate and get it all out of his system. Possibly have a bit of a fight...sod it, a few bruises wouldn't hurt either of them. But somewhere inside, something told him he should follow Addie, show that she really did mean something to him and he was genuinely worried about her.
But Colle would probably never forgive him. And they had always said that mates came first. Mates did come first, and Colle was the top of the top as far as Kaine was concerned.
"Go do your homework," he said softly to Addie, meeting her eyes and giving her a small sad smile. "I'll come find you later ok? There's some things I need to sort out first. Don't work too hard."
He turned away then, his heart tearing a little as he did so. He hated to seem like the bad guy, but Addie had to realise that nothing would come between him and Colle. Kaine truly did have strong feelings for the Gryffindor, but they were still only just starting to get to know each other and get used to whatever it was that was developing between them. Colle still came first, and in truth, he always would. The two boys had known each other too long and had been through too much together; nothing was going to get in the way of that.
"Where you heading to?" he asked Colle, hands sliding back into his pockets and his posture becoming somewhat more relaxed. "Please say somewhere I can get rid of a ton of energy. I need a run or a fly or a fight...something." He knew Colle would understand what he meant and why. When tension got too much for Kaine, he usually liked to beat the shit out of something, or run or fly for miles and miles till he'd calmed down. More than once Colle had been a volunteer punchbag for the usually calm and tolerant Slytherin. And the favour had often been returned.
Kaine had one ear out, listening for the sound of Addie's footsteps leaving. It was easier this way; deal with one of them at a time. And go with the more volatile of the pair first. He figured Addie would be a lot calmer later on, and they could have some quiet time to themselves. For now, he wanted man time with his best mate. He'd deal with the fallout later...once he'd calmed down in any way possible.
