Remus John Lupin
When the day I was born:
10-3-1960
The Angels screamed:
John Lupin and Mary Lupin (née Lamont)
And Hell shut its doors:
None
While creatures retreated:
None.
To depths unknown:
Half-blood
I hide from them:
* Library
* Griffindor common room
* Flourish & Blotts
* Doesn't really matter where, as long as I'm with my mates, I suppose?
Be who they want to see:
Unlike most boys his age, Remus still has a fairly slim built - especially compared to James 'Quidditch Shoulders' Potter and Sirius 'Will Probably Even Defeat You In A Fistfight Even If He Only Had One Arm' Black. The lack of bodyfat along with his narrow, pale-ish face only underlines the fact that he looks a little sickly or tired. (No matter how much time he spends in the sun, his tan always fades in winter.) His hair's a light brown and brushes just past his ears; his eyes are of a sort of similar colour, somewhere between honeybrown and darkbrown. His eyes are actually the one thing that stop you from thinking he is critically ill, as they are pretty much always shining and alert - unless he's really not well.
His clothes are always at least second hand and mended in more places than you can think of, but despite all that Remus does his best to be dressed as neatly as possible. Sure, his friends might often have their shirts untucked or their ties gone 'missing', but this is not the case if you look at Remus' uniform. He knows he can't afford expensive clothing (and won't allow his friends to by some for him, either), but that's no reason to walk around like neglected vagabond.
Remus makes up for his sickly and shabby appearance by smiling, something he can do quite charmingly when he chooses to do so (even if his smile's a tad shy). When around his friends, though, Remus has no problems smiling whatsoever, and it lights up his entire being. If you pay enough attention, you might even catch him actually laughing out loud. Another thing that makes him look lively is simply the way he moves. Remus moves and walks more graceously than you'd expect and has terribly good reflexes (which makes him very good at duelling, too). He's used to a lack of sleep because his friends are very capable of distracting him by day, so homework is often done by night. Even after a night spend by doing homework in stead of sleeping, he can usually look quite okay (after two or three cups of coffee). Of course, he 'collapses' every once in a while and is ill, but people seem to assume it's the fault of his all-nighters and not of his other 'affliction'. Somehow, his mood and tired eyes around the full moon seem to go unnoticed, people also linking that to a lack of sleep.
Ofcourse, not visible to the rest of the students, are his scars. The most prominent one is a large bite mark which covers his right shoulder. Somehow, it never really faded, au contraire to his other, self inflicted scars that are usually reduced to silverish lines after a month or two due to his healing capabilities. Luckily, there are no scars (yet) in places that cannot be covered by clothing.
But that leaves no one:
To discover that inside:
Remus is intelligent, but not insanely brilliant. He's probably about as smart as James or Sirius, but just works much, much harder than they do. He has an immense need to prove himself and to be the best he can be, as to erase the prejudice that might arise if people were to find out what he actually is. Remus tries his very best to keep his temper (however slight) under control and usually succeeds (the few days around full moon are usually a little more difficult). He is calm, tolerant, and gently by nature, but because he wants people to like him and because he doesn't want to raise suspicion, he focuses on these traits. Remus can also be viciously fierce and very angry, but hardly anyone gets to see that side of him, not even his friends. Remus is someone who bottles up his emotions because he's too afraid of being overruled by them which might make him losing control and exposing himself.
Because he has suffered from prejudice too many times, he refuses to judge people without knowing them and will always be extremely forgiving.
Overall, he's quite social. Sure, he's shy and not a social butterfly, but he's not a loner and an unsocial being. He will answer your questions when you ask them, he'll wave at you in the hallway (he'll just wave whereas James and Sirius will shout and glomp) and he has no problems speeching in front of a large group. The only thing that catches him off guard occasionally are girls - but he's 15. What do you expect? Besides, girls always seem to be able to look right through you, silly little creatures. (It goes without saying that Lily Evans is an exception.)
Friends are incredibly important to him. Remus would probably feel lost without his three best friends: James, Sirius, and Peter. They bring out his good sides: his capital sense of humour and his more misschievous side. Still, he is misschievous to a certain extent, never partaking in bullying or pranks that could possibly harm people. You could say he's the more mature one in the group, opposing James and Sirius who're generally real teenagers, but still different from Peter, who's less independent than he is. Still, though he is able (as a Prefect) to keep his friends in line, he cuts them an awful lot of slack - deep inside, he's afraid he might lose them after all.
This soulless being:
+ Books
+ New moon
+ Snow
+ Coffee!
+ His friends
+ Noticing it when his friends plan to prank him and then turning the whole thing around *sniggers*
+ Intellectual challenges and puzzles
Is just as lost:
- Chocolate: he's had to eat it far too often
- Full moon, obviously
- Steak and kidney pie
- Anything silver
- Bright orange or yellow
- Being behind on schoolwork
- Choices
As everyone else:
+ Defence Against the Dark Arts
+ Charms (he did loads of work on the Marauder's Map, after all)
+ Nonverbal and wandless magic
+ Wizard Chess (and normal Chess)
+ Pleasant person to be around, overall
+ Trustworthy
In a world that knows only hate:
- Too kind
- It's difficult to gain his trust, even though he'll be polite to you, it'll take a while before you're really 'let in'
- Fails at COMC because half the animals are afraid of him
- Has times when he just can't stand himself (though his friends usually talk or prank him out of it)
- Starts freaking out when a girl talks to him for any time longer than two minutes (except when it's Lily) and requires Sirius to help him out, usually
And causes pain for the soulless like me:
* Werewolf - how obvious can you get?
* Is afraid of life after graduation
They left me to die:
It is known that Remus Lupin was a half-blood, and, from this, it can be inferred that at least one of his parents was magical. Mr. Lupin was likely a wizard (see below), which can either imply that Mrs. Lupin was a Muggle, or that one — or even both — of the Lupins were Muggle-born or half-bloods. However, Remus' statement that both of his parents "tried everything" to cure his lycanthropy suggests Mrs. Lupin may have been a witch, as a Muggle probably would not have been able to treat a wizarding condition as advanced as Lycanthropy.
On a bed of roses:
The fact that Mr. Lupin angered a werewolf indicates that he had contact with the wizarding world — implying that he may have been a wizard.
Blood seeping through:
Remus is a werewolf? I know this is getting obvious, but it looks like one hell of a family secret to me!
The satin sheets of fame:
Poor....
What a bitter story of love:
Remus was born to John and Mary Lupin in March 1960. They could not have been happier. John had a steady job at the Ministry of Magic at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The Beast division, to be exact. They were quite well to do, Mary quitting her job and staying home to take care of their new born boy. Their luck was about to change, though.
In 1969, probably during yearly check ups, John had in some way managed to offend Fenrir Greyback. Offending a werewolf is never a smart thing to do, but John figured he was 'just a werewolf', so it wasn't like he could do anything to harm him. He was terribly wrong, however, and one december evening, just a few months before Remus' ninth birthday, he would find out how wrong he was. They'd been comfortably sitting around the fire and firewood had run out. Remus, 'being a big boy', had offered to get some from the shed in the back garden and that was when Greyback struck. Remus was all alone in the garden and his parents had no idea what was coming until they heard their son scream. Needless to say, Christmas was cancelled - litterally. Remus survived the attack barely, but would be a werewolf for the rest of his life.
Things went from bad to worse. Firstly, John blamed himself for his son turning into a monster and swore he'd do everything to help him find a cure. Some healers at St. Mungo's advised him to just euthanise his son, as he was too young to survive for more than a year due to the violence of the transformations, but John refused and Remus, well.. Remus proved to be a fighter for his life.
Another problem was that John could not possibly work in the Beast division any longer now that his own son was a werewolf, so he was sent to the Centaur office (a.k.a.: he was sacked). His wife didn't have a job either and the research they did in order to try and cure Remus was costly, which caused them to fall down the financial ladder a great deal. Eventually, they had to give up and both got a mediocre job that paid barely for everything.
Both John and Mary feared Remus would never get into Hogwarts and, thus, would never be able to make a living, but Dumbledore visited them personally to talk the matter over and assured them things would be arranged to make sure Remus could still attend. The werewolf enrolled in 1971 and was sorted into Gryffindor house. It took him a while to find his place, but his dorm mates were very outgoing, so he soon found himself having friends. Of course, his secret still weighed him down, but Remus managed quite well. The teachers liked him, especially Minerva McGonagall and Filius Flitwick, as he did well in almost all of his subjects.
To make sure he could transform without fear of being discovered, a shanty was built outside of Hogsmeade. This shanty had no natural entrances. There was only a secret passage leading to it from under the Whomping Willow, on Hogwarts' grounds. Remus was brought to the structure once a month for his transformations in order to prevent him from attacking other students. However this isolation caused him to attack himself out of frustration. The villagers of Hogsmeade mistook his screams for that of violent ghosts. Thus the building was dubbed the Shrieking Shack and attained the reputation for being the most haunted building in Britain. Dumbledore encouraged this rumour to keep people from investigating the noises.
During second year, James, Sirius, and Peter worked out the truth about Remus' monthly disappearances and confronted him with it. It was almost too good to be true and became even better when his friends revealed they were studying to become animagi so he wouldn't have to be alone during transformations. This only deepened the friendship between the four boys and Remus felt like he was blessed with something he hardly deserved.
Although Remus was generally a good student, he would sometimes join James and Sirius in detention for mischief-making. He didn't get into trouble as often as them, though. No other Hogwarts student ever found out as much about the Hogwarts ground and Hogsmeade as they did, and James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter used their knowledge of it to write the Marauder's Map and signed it with their nicknames. It was eventually confiscated by Argus Filch.
Remus' frequent disappearances riled up an unhealthy curiosity in Severus Snape, a Slytherin student in the same year as Remus, who shared an enmity with James and Sirius, and hated Remus and Peter by association. So far, nothing has happened, though. (But next year will be drama, lol! XD)
Remus met Lily Evans while they were both attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Lily wasn't on good terms with Remus' friends (James and Sirius) but that didn't mean she disliked Remus too. Remus and Lily were both made Prefects during their fifth years, and they were friendly. Although he was a Prefect, Remus had trouble exercising discipline over his friends. (Sirius once said that Remus did not participate in the bullying of Snape, but Remus admitted that he regretted that he had never stepped in to stop it.)

Don't make me pounce your bed, Sirius." The lump chuckled lazily and muttered a: "That's what she said, Moony" in a broken, hangover voice.
'Moony', already dressed and fed and clean, crossed his arms with an indignant sigh. "Sirius, you promised me we'd work together on that history essay if I went out drinking with you yesterday - I can't help it you have no limits. Get out of bed." No reaction. "You have three seconds, Sirius Black III, heir to the most noble house of Black."
Sirius groaned.
"One."
"Why must you always tease me, Moony?" came a whiney voice from under the covers.
"Two."
"Why don't you have a hangover like all normal people?"
"Th- Get stuffed, Sirius!" Slamming door.
