I hide from them:
Kane's favourite place to hide is in the library, usually in some dark corner as few people think to look for him there.
Be who they want to see:
Kane has a rather feminine appearance. He seems rather delicate to most as his facial features and bone structure are more from his mother than his father. He has shoulder-length brown hair (that is light enough to seem blonde in certain light) and soft hazel eyes that seem to give off a kindness and warmth. He stands at around 6 foot tall but has a slender frame (though he does not look lanky or underfed). He is always seen with a book in his hand.

The thing he hates most about his appearance is the fact that his nose is slightly off centre, it was broken when he was younger and had been trying to stop a fight his brother was in, he also thinks that his lips are too full. Kane’s skin is light, but not pale, and his cheeks often have a slight flush to them which makes people wonder what he has been up to. He is generally seen in muggle clothing unless he is in classes, opting for trench coats, jeans and t-shirts over the usual wizarding robes which just irritate him. He puts up with them for classes because it’s the school uniform. He is rarely seen without a smile on his face or his nose in a book.

Kane is a quiet, gentle person who tends to avoid large groups for fear of being isolated once they discover his sexuality, he is of the mindset that he cannot be hurt if he doesn't set himself up for such a situation. He is not as outspoken as his twin and is a lot more bookish. Kane is highly intelligent but he is not vain enough to go around bragging about it. He prefers to have a few close friends that he knows he can trust as oppose to hundreds that he doesn't really know that well.

Kane is shy when meeting new people and large groups make him extremely uncomfortable. He is not your typical over the top gay guy, he doesn't act feminine, doesn't fit into the stereotype and doesn't look any different to the rest of the guys at the school (perhaps with a little more style). He hates people who pretend to be something they aren't just to fit in with everyone else. Kane is sweet and connects well with his female friends, who tend to be a lot more caring and understanding of his sensitive side. He likes to spoil his female friends and is always around when they need to talk or need a shoulder to cry on. Despite his sensitivity, he does not outwardly show extreme emotions (at least not in front of those he does not consider close friends), preferring to deal with things in his own way.

Blood seeping through:
The family's biggest secret that they keep is the existance of Malcolm Sevino Montague, who hides under the name of Sevino Dominic Capulet (the name of his mother's eldest brother) and is currently living in Italy (where the family originated from several decades ago). Malcolm is the brother of James Anson Montague and was shunned from the family for two reasons; one he was unable to sire heirs to the family line (due to a spell that had rendered him infertile) and because the man would never have produced heirs anyway given his sexuality. It is because of this that Kane refuses to tell his father about his own sexuality.

What a bitter story of love:
Kane was born Kane James Montague to Ivan and Rebecca Montague. He is the youngest (by five minutes) of a set of twins, his elder twin being Ravenclaw extrovert, Brandon. Kane was always the forgotten twin where his father was concerned. He was the smallest and the quietest and his father had little time for the dreamer so he was pushed to the back and ignored most of the time. His relationship with his mother was different, however. The woman had plenty of time for her youngest son and showered him with the affection that he was denied from his father, often favouring him over his twin in the same way Ivan favoured the elder of the pair. It was for this reason that he grew extremely close to his mother as he grew older and became protective of the woman who gave him life. She is the only member of his family he ever told about his sexuality. Kane was given his middle name as tribute to his paternal grandfather; James Montague, just as Brandon was named for their maternal grandfather on request of their mother.

Kane showed his first sign of magic shortly before his sixth birthday. Unlike most boys his age, Kane was still afraid of the dark (something that Ivan blamed on his wife's mollycoddling) and, after the lights were turned out, he managed to light one of the candles in the room without realising how. This event was the final straw for Ivan, he began to put his youngest son down, calling him names and telling him to 'man up' at every opportunity in the hope of making his son less of a 'sissy'. He enrolled his son in muggle sports such as wrestling and boxing in the hopes of 'beating the poufe out of him' but to Rebecca it was obvious that her son would prefer to be in his room reading and writing or helping her in the garden. Kane had become both a son and a daughter to Rebecca and Ivan Montague could not stand it. After all attempts failed to get his son to act more like a man, Ivan gave up and returned to ignoring him.

Unlike most boys his age, Kane practically did what he was told (the exact opposite of his brother). He was not the kind to rebel and spent most of his time bonding with his mother, the only person whose approval he felt he needed. He got along with his brother but the pair were so different that they often argued and headstrong Brandon would say something that would make the younger of the pair end up in tears, though Kane never let his father or brother see him cry. When he finally recieved his Hogwarts letter, Kane was extremely excited and his magic went slightly haywire. This event ended up in him blowing up his and his brother's birthday cake and he recieved an extreme lecture from his father followed by his father and brother ignoring him for the week, not that the event was anything new.

When he began Hogwarts, Kane was sorted into Ravenclaw, along with his brother. He was unpopular, the nerd that sat in the library and was ignored by the rest of the house (perhaps because his brother had been rather insistant that no-one speak to the younger twin). He spent most of his time in the library, reading and writing and generally just hiding from the rest of his house. He formed a few friendships with some of the girls of the school, most of whom thought of him as a brother more than anything and enjoyed his calm nature and the fact that he would listen to them without complaining if they got teary. He was not as bothered as he should have been that the girls weren't interested in him romantically and, after a rather disasterous date in his third year, the boy finally came to terms with the fact that he was gay. He told his mother but swore her to secrecy, not wanting his father or brother to find out. Since then he has told his close friends and no-one else.

During his fourth year, Kane's relationship with his twin was mended slightly now that they were away from their parents influences more often. The pair will never be close but they act more like brothers than they use to, even if their old fights still start up again. Things have become more relaxed between the pair but the very straight Brandon often still lets derogatory comments about gays slip, unaware of how it is affecting his brother. When the house rivalries and alliances began to take presidence over other relationships Kane decided to stay out of it, preferring to avoid the confrontation with other members of the school. His brother did not like this but after an outburst on Kane's behalf, he stopped trying to force the younger half to join in on the insults against Slytherins and just left the boy alone.

Miserable; wretchedly unhappy, uneasy, or uncomfortable. Synonyms; forlorn, disconsolate, doleful, distressed. As if he really needed a definition for what he was feeling at this present moment. Kane Montague had been miserable for hours, he was currently sitting in the Leaky Cauldron, hiding in a corner, trying to avoid his brother and the usual gang of 'friends' he was surrounded by. They were both different, him and Brandon, and he had no desire to hear his brothers pitiful attempts to recruit him into the folds of the Corbeaux and its supporters, he had no interest in house rivarly until this point and it was not going to start now! As the exceedingly loud chatter died down somewhat he scanned the room to ensure that the group were no longer running around before brushing his hair from his eyes and sneaking out the back and into Diagon Alley. He should at least make himself useful while in this area, perhaps look for some extra reading material given that he had done his school shopping weeks ago.

With a sigh, he noted the sign above Florean Fortescues, and thought that he deserved a bit of a treat. He could use a pick me up and he was sure that his brother would not cause trouble in Fortescue's shop, not after what had happened last time they were here and Brandon was harrassing his younger twin. The bells above the door chimed in a comforting manner, signalling that Kane had entered the shop, and he was immediately greeted by a grinning store clerk. He offered her a half smile "one triple choc sundae, please" he said, in his usual cheery manner. She nodded to him and began to turn around before he quickly stopped her "with extra nuts" he added as an after thought. It took little time for him to recieve his order and he turned, heading for a table towards the back.

He was a little distracted, observing the imagery that was painted on the walls, so distracted that he didn't notice a young woman in front of him until two late. The pair collided, sending the sundae down the front of Kane's shirt. He sighed as he heard her apologising and turned to look at her "no need to apologise, it was my fault" he said "i should have looked where I was going, no harm done". He placed what was left of the sundae on a nearby table and picked up a few napkins, trying to remove the chocolate and icecream from the light blue shirt. This is going to stain he thought with a sigh, but he really should have been keeping an eye on his surroundings. What if it had been his brother and the gang that he had run into? Now that would cause nothing more than trouble!
