She was not late, nope, in fact Veronica had arrived twenty minutes early. Now, Veronica was not the type to be early, she liked to be right on time down to the last second. But that prat Walker had really pushed her buttons, thus having her arrive before him, glancing at her watch every minute hoping that he would be late. This was weird to her, though, going through all this trouble and for what? She didn’t know.
‘Stop looking at your damn watch,’ she scolded herself and pushed herself way from the table that held her muggle studies book, parchment, ink and a quill. Her school bag was hanging off her chair. She walked to the nearest bookcase and began looking for an interesting book that would take her mind off of his arrival. Oh, look a book about plants, how exciting. She rolled her eyes, and once again let them wander down to her watch.
For the most part of today Veronica had been dreading this meeting with Walker. But now, time was going by too slowly for the Slytherin. She wanted to get this over with so she could go back to her dorms and sulk in her pity. At dinner, which she was only there for about ten minutes, she had gotten a letter from a guy who she had been “talking” (if you could call it that) to since summer. He had decided that he didn’t want anything to do with a school girl, saying that their conversations were inappropriate considering he had just turned twenty four, she wasn’t too sure about his age when they had met (and didn’t really care), she just knew he was a bit older than her. It had hurt her deeper than she would’ve liked it to. Her ego was damaged, and her heart was bruised. It was a safe bet that she had began to get attached to him, between sending him letters whenever she could with details about her day and meeting up with him during the Holidays. But now, she sighed, there was nothing she could do about that. What’s done is done.
Without grabbing a book, Veronica made her way back to her table, pulled back the seat and sat back down. Waiting….The Library was not as full as it usually was, there were maybe about thirty students there, most of them were Ravenclaw, which was not surprising to the Slytherin. Inwardly she wondered what it was like to be a Ravenclaw, she had almost been sorted as one, and her little sister was one. Her eyes darkened.
Veronica flipped open her book to the correct page as she continued to wait for her partner. tags; Pete Walker wordcount;450

Pete walked into the library on time, his eyes immediately scanning the area. It wasn't long before he noticed her, sitting in a corner a bit away from everyone. That was perfect since they had things they needed to discuss and would probably end up arguing anyway. Heading through the library he smiled a bit at one of his Ravenclaw birds, making sure to pass her along the way. His hip lightly brushed her chair and she gave a giggle, he paused and murmured something insanely inappropriate in her ear before sauntering on his way. As he shot her a wink over his shoulder he noticed her crimson features and subtle nod. Laughing quietly he dodged a fifth year balancing loads of books and most likely studying for O.W.L.s and finally reached the table where the Girl Nott was.
"Why hello," he said jovially as he pulled out a chair. Opening his bag he removed the part of the popcorn maker they had completed as well as the smaller bag containing the remaining parts they had yet to assemble.
"I took the liberty of taking this by the Professor's class just to make sure we were on the correct track," he looked up at her and smirked "we are. Now I was able to get a new fan since the last one blew, however the Professor says she only has a few more and so at most we'd only be able to get one. I may be able to talk her into two if necessary, however I think..." he paused tilting his head "you know you haven't insulted or glared at me yet. Though this goes against my better judgment to ask... are you alright?"

The girl looked up once she heard giggling. Her eyes flashed in that person’s direction. She rolled her eyes, it seemed that nearly everyone fell over the Slytherin boy. ‘Low standards, they have’ she mused, watching as Walker looked over his shoulder, probably to give her a wink or something. Boys were so predictable.
“Hi,” she said, less enthusiastically then he had greeted her with. She hoped that much arguing wouldn’t be going on, she wasn’t in the mood for it. Veronica frowned and ran her fingers through her hair, watching as he took out the parts of their machine that still needed to be put together.
She listened as he talked about the fan. She remembered how the last one blew, which, had frightened her at the time because it was so unexpected. She wasn’t surprised to hear that they were on the right track, they had been meeting a few times a week and had gotten a lot done between all their childish bickering.
To be honest Veronica hadn’t noticed she hadn’t glared at him, or made an insulting comment yet. “Can’t I just try to be nice without getting questioned?” Veronica asked, growing a bit annoyed. He had wanted to know what was wrong with her, he had no right to ask her that. Not especially since she was sure he would probably use what she said against her. She didn’t trust him for a second. “Not unless you’re starting to miss my insults?” She grinned wickedly. wordcount;250

Pete shook his head "Fine, forget I tried," he shrugged taking a seat. "Give me the manual," he asked tapping the table with his fingers lightly. She had been supposed to stop by the tower and get the manual that they needed for the mechanical parts. "This will help us a bit more with the mechanics and getting this thing to run without burning the place down."
He went into his bag, rummaging around a bit for a moment as he looked for is favorite quill. Taking out a large bag of sweets that he had gotten from the most recent visit to Honeydukes he placed them on the table, sneaking a quick strawberry creme filled chocoball. The things were soooo bloody good. He then returned to his bag quickly finding the green quill and took it out along with a piece of parchment.
"So I was thinking that we've gotten pretty far on this thing," he said conversationally as he jotted some things down, composing a log of their meeting as he normally did. "So if you'd like then we don't have to meet for our usual Thursday gathering." He glanced up at her "I figured you probably have Valentines day plans anyway like most of the giggling girl population of Hogwarts. I myself will enjoy the small break from schoolwork, though I honestly can't wait until that loathsome day passes," he shook his head then looked back down at the parchment.
She probably had some guy she wanted to drown with treats or something, personally he was going to hide out. Last year one girl had almost slipped him quite the potent love potion, he wasn't taking anymore chances.

Veronica’s eyes fell when Walker had asked for the manual. In her want to get to the library earlier than him she had completely forgotten to stop by the Slytherin common room and pick it up. Needlessly to say she felt like an idiot. However, she wasn’t willing to admit that, so she just kept her mouth shut. She reckoned it was a matter of time before he would ask for it again and then she would tell him the truth, as she didn’t really believe in lying. He would probably scold her, or make a comment about how she was unreliable and was going to make them fail or something.
The Slytherin girl cringed as her partner popped a chocoball into his mouth. She didn’t care what it was filled with, or how good it seemed to look, it was chocolate and therefore blah. She wasn’t much of a chocolate person, if you couldn’t tell, and didn’t really understand how it could be someone’s favorite sweet. Candy wise, she preferred blood flavored lollipops. “I don’t know how you can eat those things,” she commented.
She had briefly wondered why they wouldn’t meet for their Thursday meetings, but he had answered her question after a moments pause. Valentine’s day. It had completely slipped her mind. Valentine’s day and she would be alone, well, if that wasn’t depressing, she didn’t know what was. Her eyes narrowed subconsciously. “Stupid boys!” she grumbled, folding up her arms. Veronica wondered if he even knew the holiday was coming up, that if he had cut her off on purpose, as if a way to get back at her for something she did! But, she thought back, and she couldn’t find herself doing anything wrong.
“You know, I just don’t understand how guys can just cut a person off as if they don’t even fucking care!” she hissed. “I gave him the best shag of his life, and trust me, I know it was because of the way he freaking moaned when I—well, you don’t need to know the details. But, I swear! He was so into it, into me, and then…out of nowhere! He wants to date women his own age; he doesn’t feel that this is right considering that I’m just a child! Just a child! His exact words,” she let out a frustrated sigh and looked down at her hands. “Can you believe him!?”
Her voice lowered, and her eyes began to sting with tears, but she wouldn’t let them fall. “I don’t understand why this hurts me as much as it does… why I care about him, when I shouldn’t. It was just a fun thing, nothing serious.” By time all this came out of her mouth Veronica had began to regret saying all this, letting Pete Walker in -- letting him know how she felt. He could use this against her at any moment, he could mock her shamelessly for the rest of her Hogwarts life. Great. Just great. wordcount;499

Pete looked up at her "What? They're great," he told her in response to her comment about chocolate. He then went into his bag pulling out a fresh ink well and sat it down on the table. He looked at the spot where the manual should be and frowned. Where was it? He knew she had heard him, geez was he supposed to do everything in this stupid sodding partnership? Just as he opened his mouth to demand she pull out the manual or go and get it she began to rant about boys... well one boy in particular it seemed.
Both of the dark haired boy's brows almost touched his hair line as she continued to talk. And if he were honest with himself he'd admit he was a bit disappointed when she didn't finish the part about what she had done to, whomever this guy was, to make him moan so loudly. Tilting his head he allowed her to finish her tirade, somewhat amused by it and very curious. What exactly was she thinking telling him of all people all of this.
He noticed the look on her face and realized that at this point she was probably wondering the same thing. Pete contemplated his position, he could come back with a smarmy comment that would most likely set her off and end with nothing getting accomplished but her storming from the room. OR he could hold off, just this once, in the spirit of diplomacy and either shut up or offer advice.
He considered it for a nice long moment before sighing and leaning back in his chair "Well from the sound of things he was probably using you from the beginning. The fact is that he knew how old you were all along, or I assume he did, which means if you're old enough to shag then you're not too young. In fact if you're too young for anything a tumble in the sheets would be it."
He ran the feather of his quill along the desk, looking at that instead of her. "Honestly, the guy sounds like a prick. Not that I know him, but if he is that much older than you to where he thinks saying you're too young is a logical way to end things. Then he's probably some chomo who can't get a bird his own age. My suggestion is to take your extensive skills and put them to use where they're more appreciated."
"As for feelings," he shrugged. "Feelings are usually involved with women, wither they like it or not." He looked up at her.
This is why he was always honest, sure -he had more than one girl that he was messing around with, but they knew about one another. He never lied about his intentions and he made it perfectly clear that he did not do the monogamous relationship, fall in love with my girlfriend thing. He made sure to be careful about that, there was nothing worse than a woman scorned.
"Look... why don't we meet on Thursday for a special side project," Pete offered, expecting her to respond to any and everything he said with the attitude she usually maintained towards him.

“Got them from Honeydukes no doubt?” she asked. “If that’s the case, then I’m sure it’s quality chocolate, however, it’s chocolate…and chocolate was never good to begin with.” Veronica told him her opinion, which had held up for her since she was a child.
It seemed like hours had passed since Veronica had started her rant, but it was in fact minutes. Veronica looked up when Walker had began to speak, and didn’t hide her surprise when he was speaking in a nicer way than she certainly expected. “I am not too young to shag anyone.” she input. “I am sixteen and in six months I will be of age,” she couldn’t help but to get a little offended. “Besides, I’m sure you’ve shagged loads of birds, and you’re the same age as me.” Though, Veronica knew he was right. Not about the too young to shag, but that he knew how old she was before all this had started and he didn’t mind then. But, now he minded. Why did age matter now?
Veronica let out a small chuckle before asking, “and where would my ‘extensive’ skills be more appreciated?” she tilted her head and slightly raised an eyebrow. “You know, just out of curiosity.”
“Feelings are usually involved with women…” her voice trailed off. “That’s a bit sexist. Are you trying to say that you haven’t had feelings for a girl?” The more Veronica thought about it, it wasn’t all that surprising. She shrugged. “I guess I could see that, you do seem like the type to shag ‘em once and then move on to the next best thing. Though, you do always go back to that cat of yours…”
When he proposed meeting on Thursday Veronica gave a slow nod. “Okay. I guess I can do that, it’s better than being alone for a bit while everyone’s off being in love and junk.” And after that she could go drown her sorrows in a bottle of firewhiskey…wordcount;330

Pete shrugged "If that's what you think," he responded in reference to her comment about chocolate.
He listed to her, noticing her tone wasn't as rude as usual and silently acknowledged her effort to not be so bitchy. He titled his head to the side as she spoke and shook his head lightly "I wasn't saying that you were too young, we're the same age and I know I'm not too young for a great shag. I was saying that if he was using that as an excuse it didn't hold up." He shrugged "And as for better use of your skills, I'd think that that would be anywhere where the guy wasn't some useless prick with nothing better to do with his time than try to shag school aged girls."
He sighed and considered her words for a moment, lightly licking his full lips he looked up at her and responded. "No. I've never allowed any feelings more than physical to become involved when I'm with a girl." He leaned back in his seat "My Grandfather is already looking at potential future mates for me, what is the use in getting emotionally attached to a woman that I have no future with?"
He rose a brow at her, his eyes dancing with an amusement. "My cat is my pet, yes I go back to him. However I don't shag and leave the girls I’m with. I prefer to stay with certain females who are well practiced at the art of discretion. Besides, why put all of the work into teaching a woman how to please me and showing her how a man should please her, then leave her to someone else who's nowhere as incredible as I am to reap the rewards?" he drawled with a wicked grin.
He nodded at her response "Good then, it's a plan. We can meet up and do something quite fun." He wagged his brows "I'll tell you what it is when you get there," he held up a hand "and no -it's not sexual in nature. Just wanted to put that out there before you could make some type of disparaging comment."
He leaned forward once more "Now what do you say we get to work? Where's the manual?"

“It is what I think, but yeah, it’s just my opinion.” the brunette replied in a bored tone. Maybe she should’ve just let the chocolate conversation die instead of saying something. But it was so hard considering she felt the need to always have the last word.
Veronica agreed, now understanding what he was saying. “Yeah, it doesn’t hold up.” The girl looked down and began flipping through her Muggle studies book. “Well, in his defense… I kind of came on to him, at first. And, we both know I’m irresistible.” Veronica looked back up and let out a grin before it quickly fell from her face. Why was she defending that arse? She cursed at herself.
Veronica awaited his reply with extreme interest. “Ah,” an arranged marriage. She sighed, she wasn’t really into those. She knew that when the time came she would have to make a respectable pureblood marriage; it was, after all, expected of her. “I see your point there.”
As he spoke, Veronica began to feel a bit, just a tiny bit, bad for thinking that he was the type of person who would go shag a girl and then move onto someone else. That just showed how much she didn’t know him, and surprisingly found herself wanting to know more about the Slytherin. The girl snorted. “Someone’s overconfident in their sexual abilities.”
“Alright, then.” she smiled softly, ‘this smiling thing is weird’, her smile faltered. She was just about to ask what they were going to do, when he mentioned fun, but halted when he told her she’d find out when the time came. “Me make a disparaging comment?” Veronica looked at him in mock!shock, “I would never!” she insisted, shaking her head slightly.
Veronica nodded. It was about time they finally got to work. “Oh…um…the manual? Right, um…about that. Um, well…you see, I kind of left it… on my bed.” Veronica grabbed her wand that sat right beside her on the table. “Accio manual.” she waited for nearly a minute before standing up. “Guess that didn’t work,” Veronica mumbled, just as something zoomed at her and hit her in the head before falling to the table. “What the hell?” she asked, rubbing her forehead. “Well, that was effective.” she sat back down, and picked up the manual before holding it out to Pete. wordcount;389

Pete looked at her, his brow rose but he wisely decided not to comment when she said she was irresistible. He would beg to differ if he did decide to comment, but he didn't. He also refrained from commenting when she defended the jerk -though he couldn't stop the look that crossed his face.
"I'm not over confident, just aware of my capabilities," he stated in response to her comment about his abilities.
He worked hard not to look amused at her smile, especially when she looked weirded about about the concept. He'd have to talk to Adrian later about his sister's inability to loosen the hell up. He acknowledged her sarcastic comment about what type of remark she would say with a subtle smirk and a playful roll of his eyes. He had to admit, he kind of missed fighting with her. Next time he'd have to kick up the arguing a notch, getting along for a change was quite weird. Besides, he didn't like how attractive she looked when she wasn't sneering or glaring, it was disconcerting.
Pete snorted a laugh and dropped his head to his hands when the manual flew in and smacked her in the head. They did not need to get kicked out by Pince right now, but at the same time that was just bloody classic. After he had gained a bit of control over his amusement he looked up at her and said, with almost a straight face, "It was very effective."
He wondered why Adrian never mentioned what a klutz his sister could be? Then again they never really talked family overly much, with Nott's issues with his Father and Pete's lack of a Father, the subject was normally avoided.
Pete accepted the manual from her, his eyes still dancing with amusement "So, I think what we need to work on today is the popcorn use manual for witches and wizards. We're not allowed to copy directly from here but we can use some of the information. I was also able to acquire us a new outlet for the next time we want to test this hazard. But could we do it somewhere in the open next time? It took two washings by the house elfs to get rid of that burned popcorn smell that clung to my robes after the last time."

To say she was disappointed was an understatement. She was expecting Pete to object to her ‘irresistible’ comment, but instead he said nothing. “Cat got your tongue?” She asked, wanting to argue with him again, it was better than being nice. Being nice took too much effort.
Veronica couldn’t stop herself from wondering what exactly he was capable of between the sheets. He talked as if he were pretty experienced, and probably more experienced than her, but that doesn’t mean she couldn’t teach him a few things if anything ever did happen between them. Veronica blushed slightly from the thoughts that filled her mind. She ducked her head so her hair was covering her face, hoping that Walker wouldn’t notice and ask questions.
“That was not funny,” she looked up, narrowing her eyes slightly as he laughed. Why were these embarrassing things always happening to her in front of him? The first time they had worked together she fell right on her arse, and this time a stupid manual hit her on the forehead. She didn’t even wanna fathom that something even more embarrassing could happen to her.
Veronica listened as Pete talked. She nodded slightly, “I already started the popcorn use manual.” she told him as she grabbed a piece of parchment off the table that had nearly printed handwriting on it. “Here, you can look it over.” she placed it down in front of him. “It’s just a start of a rough draft, but lemme know what you think should be different, and what works and doesn’t work.”
“We could test it wherever you like.” The Slytherin snorted, “But personally I liked the burnt popcorn smell for a change, it covered up your gnarly B.O.”wordcount;287

Pete rose a distinct brow "No, a cat is not in possession of my tongue. Why was there something in particular you wanted me to say?" he inquired.
His gaze centered on her face as he noticed a blush creeping up her skin, an amused look passed over his face. "Is it getting warm in here?" he asked with a subtle smirk.
"Of course it was funny," he responded to her comment about his amusement. "That's why I laughed, because it was funny. Have you ever considered a future in comedy? One of those comedic timing things? Then you can get paid for tripping and getting hit in the face with things." Pete offered jovially.
He pulled the manual over to him and looked over the words contained inside “Alright… I think that you’re doing well so far, though you might want to break this down a bit more.” Pete suggested. “I mean not many witches and wizards understand the decidedly muggle terms in here. Though it’s not like you have to worry about any self respecting pure-blood trying to use some muggle rubbish.” He added turning the page. “I was thinking that maybe I could add some basic sketches to the manual, you know, pictures for the extremely slow to look at.”
He looked over at his bag and pulled out a small sketch pad, turning it past his other artwork he came to a couple of simple sketches that he had down of the popcorn maker. “See, just to add them maybe above the words, to let people know. Oh and we also need to get the barrier from the Professor, that was another thing that she said went wrong, muggle electronics and magic don’t mix.” He smirked “Probably because magic is so superior.” He closed the book and placed it back in his bag “Anyway, what do you think?”
