Alecto sat up and actually smiled. What in the world was she smiling about? It was honestly the last thing on Sirius' list of things to do. Maybe it was because she hadn't been the one who had risked her neck for the both of them, or maybe it was because she lived. Either way, she was lucky. Sirius' heart was still hammering through his chest, and no matter how deep he tried to make his breaths, his heart just wouldn't slow down. He couldn't imagine any other sixteen year old managing to be calm after torturing a giant spider and rescuing someone who wasn't exactly their friend.
Alecto thanked him, and automatically he replied, "You're welcome."
He hadn't really meant to say it. Really, he had been contemplating not replying. He really didn't want to be thanked for using an Unforgivable Curse. He was honestly somewhat surprised that Ministry officials weren't flying down at him at that moment, but that was his irrational side coming out. The Ministry would only be able to tell that he did magic if he had done it outside of Hogwarts, due to the fact he was underage, or if someone complained. He doubted very much the girl next to him was going to complain, especially due to the fact that using an illegal curse saved her life. Then again, she was a Slytherin, and knew if he was going to piss her off in the future that she could very easily tell on him. There were ways of finding out what someone's wand had conjured.
"Don't mention it," Sirius added, unnecessarily. He tried to look her in the eyes to almost see if he could allow her to understand the dual meaning of what he was trying to say. He meant it in the 'you're welcome' sense, but also in the, 'seriously, never mention this to anyone else' sense. The last thing he needed was people asking how he had managed to escape the forest with an Acromantula chasing them. Yes, he could lie, but he was still so panicked that he couldn't think of anything off the top of his head.
Sirius suddenly felt extremely awkward when she mentioned that if it had been anyone else, they would have left her. He looked away from her and over the lake, watching the reflection of the moon and trees in the still water. If she had ever done anything wrong, he had the feeling that he would have found it a lot harder to save her. If he had been with Snivellus in the Forest... there was absolutely no chance that he would have, and he knew it. He felt as if Snape was better off dead then risking the chance that maybe one day he would actually contribute something great to society, or even one person. Sirius couldn't help but wonder if thinking that was a Slytherin trait. As he thought about it, he thought about James. James hated Snivellus just as much as Sirius did, but Sirius couldn't help but think that James wouldn't be able to leave Snape in the Forest with the giant spider, where in Sirius' mind he couldn't help but think about how many chews it would take the spider for it to be able to swallow the prat. He felt a little flustered. So was it Gryffindor of him to save Alecto, but Slytherin of him to leave Snape? But it wouldn't have been out of cowardice or saving his own neck leaving Snape, it would be out of spite. Did that make it better or worse than his original thought?
"Yeah, well, that's what you get for being in Slytherin and having Slytherin friends," Sirius finally replied, a little bitterly.
He wondered suddenly what Alecto would have done if the tables had turned. Would she have rescued him, or left him? He had a feeling it would have been the latter, but he tried not to think of it. He supposed it wasn't her fault she was in Slytherin and had all the terrible traits. It was almost worrying him how despite the fact he was being miserable, she still looked unbothered by his comments. It was a little unnerving, and he couldn't help but wonder if she had hit her head at some point. Alecto and Sirius didn't get along. They bickered and were childish to each other, and everyone knew it. Yes, Sirius thought she was extremely attractive, and always believed Alecto to feel the same way about him, but it didn't mean that their personalities clicked. Just because people were attracted physically didn't mean they were mentally as well.
Alecto told him he could go, but his body suddenly felt like lead. He just sat there, not able to move. He was starting to be able to feel the cold, but he was unbothered by it. There was no way he could go back to the dormitories and be fine. Sirius wasn't exactly a hard guy to read. He had ridiculous mood swings all of the time, and everyone, not just his mates, could tell. He always just acted the way he felt. If he was to go back to Gryffindor tower now, they'd prod him about what had happened. Besides, he had scratches all over him from running through the Forest. He could just lie to James and Peter and say that he had been in dog form, and then almost got caught by a Professor and had to run in human form back, but the story didn't really follow through. Remus, on the other hand, the one who was typically best at reading him, didn't know about their animagi forms yet. Besides, the look on his face would give it all away.
Sirius merely shook his head at Alecto's comment. "No. I don't want to go back just yet," he admitted, continuing to not really look at her. A breeze blew, and he could feel a bit of pain on his forehead. He knew it was probably just a scrape. His grey eyes managed to find their way back to Alecto without meaning to, and then he looked away. For once, Sirius was at a loss for words, and honestly, he just didn't feel like himself at all. At that point in time, he didn't even care about the uncharacteristic way he was acting was towards Alecto. He didn't care about anything at that point.

The silence spread around the lake and for a while, Alecto didn't reply to Sirius open goal. Yes, she could reply nastily that she did have good friends, but instead she just breathed in, thinking her answer through instead of answering him bluntly. Perhaps it was the cold night air, or perhaps it was her head that had lost it's mind because of all the bloodloss. Come to think of it, that would be exactly what she had done. She'd lost her mind, there was no other way to explain the words that had almost left her luxurious lips.
Biting her lip, the young Carrow turned her head back to Sirius, opening her mouth a few times as if ready to say something before closing it again and staring back in the lake. She wasn't going there, she wouldn't explain him entirely how she felt around her friends, he was a Gryffindor for Merlin's sake, and they weren't even friends, they hated each other's guts despite the fact they both probably would have slept with each other if the circumstances of their houses had been different.
It was just that, right now, after his safe. She felt different, if only for a short period of time. Perhaps there was a path she could follow, one that lead her back to a better life where friends would help you out, where people actually cared about you. But who was she kidding, in the end the only person she could count on was herself and her brother. "slytherins are different from Gryffindors, Sirius.", she told him while her eyes kept staring over the lake. We try to make our own lives, seek our own benefit and only help when it helps us move higher into society. All this time her voice was steady, almost robotic sounding until she turned her head back. There was a soft glimmer in her eyes, reflecting the person that had once been inside her, a soft girl who honestly believed in the sincerity of people. So yes,her voice was much softer now. that's what you get for being in Slytherin
It was so strange that for the first time she really felt like she was missing something in her life. True friends, ones who would stand by her through everything, who would support her and have her back when she was about to crack. But then she would have to be there for them too. Could she do that? could she really let someone in her life so much that she would give her life to save that particular person? Her slytherin side immediately responded, why should she give her dear life for someone if it endangered her own.. But then, a much smaller part, something deep inside her quirked. She would give her life without taking a second though if her brother was in danger.. Perhaps she wasn't so lost at all...
Her hands dangled over her knees, she gave Sirius another sideway glance. She felt .. at peace in the silence, the loudness had gone out of her for a little while, she was relaxed and enjoyed the silence of the dark area around them. The cut still itched, but Sirius had done a good job in healing it, the rest would probably heal on itself. She knew she should go back to her Common Room, get into bed and sleep until noon, but something stopped her from getting up and leaving Sirius alone.
For one night only, she wanted to be partially someone else, get rid of her Slytherintraits like being untrustworthy and obnoxious. But she knew it would never be that way. People couldn't be someone they were not... Certainly not with Sirius Black next to you. If she told him how she really felt, that she just wanted to have one night where they could actually talk to each other like normal people without the snide comments, he would laugh at her, square in the face. He wouldn't trust her, and in the end.. she wouldn't trust him either.

Sirius tried to not notice the way that Alecto bit her lip. It seemed seductive to Sirius in a strange way, and it always had been like that for him. There was something so innocent but yet not about it when a girl did such a thing, although Sirius knew it was not the time or place (or person, really) to be thinking that about. He couldn’t help the way he thought, either. He was Sirius, thinking about inappropriate things was what he did best. Thinking that way towards a Slytherin, Alecto Carrow no less, was extremely out of line. When Alecto turned to him, he looked straight into her eyes to hopefully make her believe that he hadn’t been staring at her mouth only moments previous. It was almost like the two of them were in some sort of fantasy world where right and wrong had been flung out the window. The two of them sat there and if anyone looked to find that they weren’t insulting each other they might have sent them both to the hospital wing.
Sirius was calmed somewhat by the way she didn’t snap back at him. It was a funny thing about Sirius: if he was trying to provoke a fight with you and you stayed calm, one of two things would happen… he would either get more aggravated, or he would calm. Most of the times it was the latter, excluding when it came to Severus Snape or people of the like. He listened to her explanation of Sirius and his realization of why exactly he hated Slytherins came boiling to the surface. Every day he reminded himself that he wasn’t meant for Slytherin, and today had been one of those days that he found himself not knowing why he hadn’t been put there. But he had saved her… yes, he had used an Unforgivable Curse on that spider and yes, he had managed to actually do it (which had been even more of a frightening thought) and it had been half to save his own skin, but at the same time, he had saved her. He didn’t even like her and yet he risked his own life to save hers. That was what made him Gryffindor. Or so he hoped, really.
Sirius didn’t reply to what she said about Slytherins for he felt more at peace with the silence than discussing why Slytherins are terrible people. He found himself looking at her without meaning to. She glanced at him and he looked away only briefly. It was almost as if the moon was shining a different light on her than how he normally saw her. She seemed vulnerable, and the complete opposite of what a normal Slytherin had. To be fair, however, he knew he wasn’t acting completely normal either. Normal would have meant for him to storm up to Hogwarts the moment the two of them had exited the Forbidden Forest and sworn that he would never do such a thing ever again. Instead, he sat there like he was enjoying her company. He wouldn’t go to the extent as to say that, but her company wasn’t terrible either. Besides, she was rather good looking…
Without even thinking of the repercussions, Sirius acted impulsively and leaned over and kissed Alecto. He wasn’t sure why he did it, or what kept him there instead of pulling away quickly. It was just, in that moment, it didn’t feel right, but it didn’t feel entirely wrong either.

Alecto Carrow was still sitting there next to Sirius Black, her thoughts miles away, wondering what the hell was happening to her. Why was she going all soft inside? Why hadn't she cursed him at least once today, why the heck was she actually considering talking to him? All these questions kept bugging her, so intense that at a certain moment, she'd just wanted to stand up, scream her lungs out and run away. But she didn't, she was rooted to the spot where she sat, her mind on him and her gaze into the distance.
When you were young, everything was so darn easy. You didn't have to worry about what to wear, about what people would think of you, of who your parents where and what your family expected of you. And now, in these few years she'd been at Hogwarts, everything had become darker, more serious. No matter what you did, somebody was always registering your next move, whether it were the teachers, or your house mates, or even someone of the rivaling houses.
She didn't want to deal with this, not right now. With the near escape from the Acromentula, the last thing Alecto Carrow needed was get in that dark downward spiral that send her mind straight to hell. She shook her head, only slightly, as if to get rid of the ideas. She wanted to sigh, but instead she got ready to leave, she put herself upright, her hands next to her sides so that she could push herself up, but on that very instant that she wanted to get up straight, lips fell upon hers.
At first, she couldn't understand what the hell had just happened. A soft frown was upon her face, something her mother had told her so many times wasn't something a girl should do. Her body tensed, but when her brains registered what was actually happening, she eased against him. It was wrong, it was very wrong for a Slytherin to kiss a Gryffindor, but there was no denying that she needed it right now. She needed to feel the presence of someone close to her, even if it was Sirius. Heck. She was kissing Sirius Black.
Many girls would have given their right arm to kiss Sirius Black; and there was no way that she could deny that she wasn't attracted to him. Merlin, he might have been the most gorgeous guy if he had been in Slytherin.
It didn't take long for her to response to the kiss, all her thoughts seemed to have passed within the matter of two seconds. She leaned in, let her lips explore his mouth. This was so different from kissing any other guys. Her feelings were triggered again, a soft mixture of wanting and aggravation pulled at her. He was a Gryffindor for Merlin's sake, and not to mention he didn't like her at all. And she didn't like him at all....
Softly, she pulled away, her lips still lingering to feel his upon hers again. Her hand reached out to his cheek, a gesture so unlike Alecto, but she needed to feel him. Her eyes searched for his, trying to see some kind of understanding in them.. But she thought that this must seem as strange to Sirius as it was for her. She came closer again, her face only inches away from him as her voice whispered softly: "One night, and one night only... Our secret." , before she gently put her lips on his again.

Sirius was admittedly a bit surprised when Alecto responded to the kiss. He tried to keep out of his mind who he was actually kissing because he never would have guessed in a million years that he would be doing so. He kept repeating her name over and over in his head... Alecto Carrow. He couldn't help but remind himself that she was probably the only good-looking Slytherin, and although he had always made jokes about making a move on her, he never truly thought he ever would. Didn't everybody kid around about hitting on good looking people, even if they weren't good people on the inside?
Kissing her was unlike kissing anyone else before. Usually he knew for a fact that this was what they wanted, or just knew that they wouldn't pull away. With Alecto, he wasn't sure of either of those things. He still wasn't completely sure of why he had even done what he had done in the first place. A whole bunch of excuses ran through his mind just in case she broke away and asked what the hell he thought he was doing, but none of them made a whole lot of sense, really.
After a few moments, however, Alecto pulled away. He expected a good slap across the fact despite the fact that she had initially responded to the kiss, but she didn't. Instead, she ran her fingers across his cheek and met his eyes. Sirius examined her face and in that moment wished that she was just a shell of who she really was. He wished that someone else lay under that skin, because he couldn't help but realize that she truly was beautiful on the outside. He wondered if she had been brought up anywhere else but a Slytherin household if she would be a completely different person: someone who Sirius actually got along with. He knew that by not liking her, however, it made all of this easier. Sirius knew that tomorrow she wouldn't force upon him a conversation about what it had all meant, and he knew that he wouldn't feel oblilgated to have to explain that he wasn't looking for a relationship. All of this meant nothing.
Sirius listened to what Alecto had said and felt a little surprised. If Slytherins were good at one thing, they were definitely good at surprising him. Usually, however, it was in a bad way. Alecto then leaned forward and kissed him again. He couldn't help but wonder if he was dreaming. He responded back, and when he could feel her lips pressed like that against his, he knew that this could not be a dream. He could definitely feel this, and unless he was snogging Remus back in the boys' dormitory in his sleep, it was not a dream. Sirius pulled Alecto closer to him and had forgotten about her injury. He couldn't help it, he just did what he did best and reacted.
