Somehow I've been blindsided by my own kindhearted notion of just who we are No doubt we'd have collided anyway with me indicted and you raising alarm First round I'll take my bows into my corner take my vows, regroup and run back again Bloodhound and of no better pedigree than what you see so you could not offend Remus rubbed his eyes briefly as he walked back from the library to his dorm. Sure, thanks to his friends he had been able to pass the moon without too much physical damage, but that didn't mean he wasn't tired. Plus, it was march already - if he slacked off now, the O.W.L. exams at the end of the year would be more than hell. Also, there was a certain amount of pressure on him around full moon because he had to explain to Annelise where he was going and why he couldn't tell. Remus hated lying in general, but he especially hated lying to people he cared about. Remus cared a lot about Annelise. He knew she'd had a werewolf childhood friend in the past, but that didn't vouch for anything, in his opinion. Firstly, she had been a child back then. Children could be so blissfully unprejudiced; the fact she hadn't minded when she was young, didn't mean she would accept him now. Her opinions could've changed, no matter how relaxed she spoke about it, she spoke about a memory which was, undoubtedly, happy and Remus wasn't a memory, nor was he a young child - he was very real, very close, and very much into puberty. Secondly, and most importantly, having a werewolf friend was one thing, but having a werewolf boyfriend? Remus had dreamt about her finding out more than once, and it always ended with Annelise basically feeling sick, realising she'd kissed with an animal. Remus could understand. So, well, he had told her he needed to catch up on some sleep, because he was overworking himself according to the school nurse (it wasn't even that bad an excuse) and then the day after, he'd need to catch up studying, right? Not that he'd been able to focus as well as he should have. Remus had never had problems focusing on studying much, really, and could even read when Sirius was bothering him (usually, at least), but Annelise had been on his mind and that had caused him to have trouble focusing. It was ironic, really, because as much as Annelise made him feel happy and human, she reminded him of his non-human side; although he didn't mean to, it sometimes made him feel terribly in dubio. Either way, he was done studying for this afternoon. It would be dinner time in an hour and he needed to put his books and everything away before venturing down with his friends, so that's what he was doing. No more worries about O.W.L.s, no more worries about Annelise (maybe he'd see her during dinner and just catch up with her briefly), and especially no more worries about the moon. The moon would be the least of his problems for the next month, and Remus knew that reasoning about what the moon did to him was useless - he had done it so often before, why repeat himself now? Just because he fancied a girl? Out of the question: Remus was rational enough to realise it was useless. He rubbed his eyes briefly and hoisted his tattered bag up a little higher, walking on in thought.
[Ugh, sorry it's a bit crappy. Rem's a little upset with me, I think.. xP 615 words Sev is tagged!]

Severus had been in the library, reading, keeping out of harm's way, and tajking a sly look at the back catalogue of muggle papers available to all Hgowarts students. Leeds, his team, were not exactly as wonderful as they had been, but still, a 1-1 draw against west ham was good enough for him.
HE put the papers down and picked up his things. Standing, he caught sight of a particular gryffindor. His imeediate reaction was to put his hand on his wand and to back away into the shadows. But when he saw that Remus Lupin was indeed alone, he decided to follow. Hand still on wand he aprroached. They left the library and he used his longer legs to his advantage, gaining ground quickly until he managed to catch up with the prefect in a deserted stretch of corridor near the old showers that were now closed off.
"A little lost cub...shouldn't you be with the rest of your pride?" Remus Lupinm was up to something. He knew this as surely as he knew that his name was Severus. Which was fairly surely.
"You missed charms by the way...And a while ago you missed awhole day of double transfiguaration and from what i hear, herbology. HAven't been sneaking off somewhere with your little friends have you?"
MAlice dripped from his thin lips as he finished,"I would hate to have to teach you things you should have elarnt in potions again. PArticularly when you've just been larking off." There was a hidden threat that he would inform a professor of Prefect and respected Lupin's absences and the real reasons for them.

Remus winced inwardly when he could smell Severus behind him. Damn it. He just hoped the nosy Slytherin just happened to exit at the same time as he did. Remus was tired and just wanted to go back to his friends, eat something, and maybe spend some time with Annelise if he could - he didn't want to get into trouble, and Severus usually meant trouble. Tough luck. "A little lost cub... shouldn't you be with the rest of your pride?" Remus sighed and stopped walking, then turned around to face the taller Slytherin. Damn height, too. Why hadn't he been through the growth spurt all his friends seemed to be affected by? Weren't werewolves supposed to be huge and strong and intimidating? Okay, Remus didn't really want to look intimidating, he was quite happy with the way he looked, but just for situations like this, he just wished he looked like.. less of a pushover?
Remus said nothing until Severus spoke again. Why? Because the question was pretty much rhetoric to him, actually. It wasn't like Severus actually wanted to know why he was all by himself. "You missed charms by the way...And a while ago you missed a whole day of double transfiguration and from what i hear, herbology. Haven't been sneaking off somewhere with your little friends have you?" He exhaled slowly, glanced out a nearby window at the grey sky and then back to Severus. "I do not have to explain myself to you, Snape. When I am absent, I have good reasons." Merlin, he didn't want to deal with this right now. Severus had better not push him too much or he might just do something very un-Prefect-y. It was especially Severus' tone that bugged him.
"I would hate to have to teach you things you should have learnt in potions again. Particularly when you've just been larking off." Snape's threat did not go unnoticed and Remus pinched the bridge of his nose, briefly. "No, I would not want to bother you with that, either - I go to the library in stead, in case you haven't noticed. I assure you that should I need tête-à-tête help, I'll ask Lily, thank you very much." Remus knew Lily was a bit of a touchy subject for the Slytherin opposite him, but Remus was willing to risk it. Or maybe he just.. wanted to annoy Snape a little.

Severus smirked as the smaller Gryffindor prefect squared up to him. He still towered over the other boy. Although. If it came to fisticuffs, Lupin certainly looked like he could beat him up. But then...so did most girls.
"I do not have to explain myself to you, Snape. When I am absent, I have good reasons." "Oh really? Good reasons?" HE nodded consideringly. But this was a marauder in front of him. And those four never stuck to the rules. "Would that be making a nice little surprise for me?"
"No, I would not want to bother you with that, either - I go to the library in stead, in case you haven't noticed. I assure you that should I need tête-à-tête help, I'll ask Lily, thank you very much." Severus smirk disappeared and he looked very serious. "Don't think that Lily would give you the time of day if she weren't such a nice person. You don't deserve her help. And good luck trying to get it after that self-rolling carpet you and your friends put down." He cut off any attempts at a reply by continuing in his low sneer. "don't pretend you didn't know. THose other three aren't smart enough to come up with that. butyou? Well..You visit the library. And I'm sure that you don't just use it to study the accepted syllabus. A little extracurricular research into 'pranking' is there?"
Severus didn't trust Lupin. not one bit.

Remus' slight frown deepened as Severus smirked down on him. He knew Severus would be no match when it came to a fist fight. Better yet, he could actually kill the boy here and now, but he wouldn't. Although Remus sometimes had the urge to hurt people, he had never experienced the instinct to actually kill people before - he preferred to keep it that way, too.
"Oh really? Good reasons? Would that be making a nice little surprise for me?" Remus growled slightly, annoyed simply by the tone Severus spoke with, the way he was treating him, he couldn't stand it. "No, they are private reasons. Not at all your business, so keep your nose out of them." Remus wasn't usually hurtful, but he had learned from past experiences that being nice to Severus Snape did not help. Besides, he wanted this over with. He wanted to go back to his friends and have an early night. If that meant he had to hex Snape (or be hexed by Snape), then that was fine, as long as it just would be over soon before he'd do something worse than a bad natured hex.
As he'd expected, Snape's face fell when he mentioned Lily. "Don't think that Lily would give you the time of day if she weren't such a nice person. You don't deserve her help. And good luck trying to get it after that self-rolling carpet you and your friends put down." Remus didn't want to consider if he did or didn't deserve Lily's help, he wasn't in the mood to go on pity trips now, all he could feel was anger bubbling up and although it wasn't so much readable on his face, it was in his eyes. "Don't pretend you didn't know. Those other three aren't smart enough to come up with that. But you? Well..You visit the library. And I'm sure that you don't just use it to study the accepted syllabus. A little extracurricular research into 'pranking' is there?" He ran a hand through his hair, tugging it a little to keep himself from just kicking Snape's ass right that moment. Really, the Slytherin shouldn't be complaining about him and his friends so much, he was just asking for it now, he was. Snape seemed to be dying to get a reaction from the usually calm Lupin, and if he wasn't careful, he was going to get one. He took a few deep breaths, though, sighing to himself softly and half turning away from the Slytherin before muttering: "If you don't mind, I was on my way back to the common room." Yes, that was best. Just walk away.

THe gryffindor made a noise in the back of his throat. Strange, becaus eLupin had never seemed the kind for posturing in that manner. But here he was, growling and trying to be some hard act. Severus scoffed at him. But then the claws came out. Severus narrowed his eyes. THis shy little prefect was going to play nasty and insult him? Well two could play at that game, and Severus Snape could play that game in the Olympics for England. But that wasn't the game he was going to play. Instead he was going to play a differnet game. One a little more to his strengths. "Lupin, I owuld be very careful what I said if I were you. Your friends aren't around now. It's one on one and i really don't fancy your odds." HE sneered, hand moving to grip his wand, but not to draw it yet.
HE could see that Lupin was starting to get a little riled up. THough it was hard to tell how much and what was having the most effect. He wanted to watch Lupin lose his cool.He wanted to get him back.
HE wasn't going to let Lupin leave. "Actually, I do mind. YOu see it isn't often i get the chance to repay your kindness, Lupin." HE drew his wand and with steady hands and levelled it at Remus Lupin. They made fools of him when there were forur of them, but now? They couldn't do anything. They were too far away, even if Lupin called for them.

"Lupin, I would be very careful what I said if I were you. Your friends aren't around now. It's one on one and i really don't fancy your odds." Remus saw Snape's hand move to his wand and narrowed his eyes a little. "You're telling me I need my friends to duel for me? Don't be ridiculous. I would've hexed you the moment you went for your wand if it wasn't against the rules to do so." He sighed. "Do yourself a favour, Snape. It's either you'll be in detention for hexing me, or you'll end up hexed yourself." He crossed his arms. "The proper reaction would be walking away."
But Remus knew it wasn't that simple. Severus was out to get a reaction out of him, and Remus wasn't planning on getting hexed first, so he kept his eyes open for the slightest movement of the Slytherin drawing his wand. Remus knew he would, most likely, be faster. "Actually, I do mind. You see it isn't often i get the chance to repay your kindness, Lupin." Fast as lightning, Remus' wand was in his hand and pointed at the boy in front of him in the same fashion as Snape was point his at Remus. "This is the last time I'm saying this, Severus," Remus said, hoping the use of the boy's first name would have any impact at all. "We can both still walk away. Don't tell me I didn't warn you." Somehow, his voice was calmed than he felt. Remus had the feeling he knew Snape's answer already and was already going over hexes in his mind, trying to decide which one to use first.
