Ahhh spring. The quiet sensation of the sun peering in from the window and onto Alice's cheeks was just enough to make her slowly crack one eye open. "Really? Do I have to be so ...ehh responsible?" The thought of taking a day off and laying in bed crossed her mind. But that, she knew quite well would get her nothing and no where. Unless of course she was sent to the hospital wing due to bed sores. Ehhh.. The image of her bent at the waist and rubbing her aching back made her groan. Then she wondered. Maybe bed sores were an actual sore. Like a pussy or scabby disgusting sore on the pin pointed spots where the mattress was unforgiving to your spine. This wandering thought made Alice very eager now to get up anf get going. She did not know what exactly a bed sore was because she'd never stayed in bed long enough to find out. And she didn't intend to either.
Jumping out, excited now to get a start on her day, Alice dressed quickly and threw her book bag over her shoulder. Turning to the mirror beside her bed she looped a hair bow around her head and tied it at the nape of her neck. "My my Miss Alice, don't you look smart? And likable at that!" She smiled and nodded to her reflection once before turning on her heal and taking off out the door. The common room was still quiet. Not quiet everyone was as punctual as she was and Alice had accepted that. But the sun was well for the sake of Merlin's pants!!! She shook her head and went to the bulletin board by the entrance. Ahh there it was, her task list for the day. A little file she got every morning with an update on anything Head girl related. Nodding she checked to be sure nothing else looked out of order in the room before she briskly walked out into the hallways of their beloved school.
The stairs cooperated with her, for once, and she had made it down to the Great Hall in no time. Except... There had been a group of fourth year boys sleeping against a wall, half eaten egg on their robes. Alice had politely stirred them from their nap, brushed off their clothes and gave them each a piece of gum as she sent them on their way. The Great Hall was just beginning to pick up with the normal early risers. The Lestrange boys in the corner, they wouldn't miss any time to be seen looking fierce and mean. A few over achieving girls from Hufflepuff were there. Of course her fellow student officer and the prefects from...most of the houses. Frank obviously was sleeping in today. And.. ahh.. Reginald Fredrickson. She remembered him from the library. A 6th year boy with braces and terrible achne. Alice knew he'd never say a word to anyone but she always said hello to him anyway. Walking over with a smile, Alice set her book bag down and took up a seat in front of him as she usually did. "Morning Reginald!" She scooped up a copy of the prophet and let the pages fall open. "Any thing good in here today? Or is it all bad news again?" She looked soberly at the headlines. One didn't seem too bad. not for society at least. It seemed that an entire stock of Gretchen Morlin's Elusive guide to aversion and avoidance, had gone unexplainable missing. "Well... that's unfortunate." Unless of course they had an abundance of Terry North's book, The site for sore eyes: how to find what cannot be found. Surely this could be one interesting day in the life of Miss Alice Hallows. tags: word count: 609 invitation: open clothes: Clicky!

Dorcas had recently turned into an early bird. Well as recently as a few months ago. It was her final year and she was doing everything she ought to be. She had few friends to distract her from studying. However, there was someone that, over the entire school year thus far, had been distracting her and because of him she'd had multiple mood swings, multiple spazes of jealousy and almost a few tantrums. The worst thing she'd done and the thing she regretted most was stunning Alice and thinking such bad thoughts of her. Sure, her and Alice weren't that close but Alice was a nice enough girl and hadn't deserved to be stupefied like that, especially all because of Adrian. That boy was nothing but trouble and Dorcas was through with him. He was immature, selfish, cruel, judgemental and a pure blood elitist to boot, thinking about it, Dorcas really didn't know what she saw in him, she was better than him and so were the people around him and far away from him for that matter. He wasn't worth the distress he'd caused her and she just needed to move on. At least that was what she kept telling herself, only this time she meant it more than the last.
Having been at the quidditch pitch since dawn, Dorcas decided to head up to the castle and get a bite to eat. Just a couple of slices of toast would do her with some butter spread on the top, maybe some strawberry jam or even marmalade this morning. Just something a little on the sweet side to satisfy her morning sweet tooth, though as she walked into the great hall she looked around and spotted Alice. She should apologise. She'd been feeling guilty for while now and had managed to avoid Alice as well as Adrian since James' birthday disaster. Dorcas hadn't wanted to be around for 'spin the bottle' or anything like that. She'd pissed off James and stupefied Alice and even by her standards, that was wrong. She didn't want to be associated with the typical Slytherin label but she hadn't done much for herself to be seen as different. To everybody she was just a Slytherin, looking out for herself and she didn't want to be that way, as much as she hated apologising she also knew it was the right thing to do and the only way to move forward. She'd start with Alice and eventually catch up with James she supposed.
"Alice? Hey." Dorcas called out her name as she walked up to the Gryffindor table. She was sat opposite a nerdy looking boy that Dorcas wasn't going to judge. She was over all that, he could have been the most kind hearted person in the world for all she knew. "I just wanted to apologise to you. I'm not interrupting anything am I?" Because the last thing she needed to do was apologise and ruin Alice's breakfast with a friend by disturbing what could possibly be an intimate conversation, though from what Dorcas had seen of the conversation, the boy hadn't moved his lips, at all. Maybe Alice had things to tell him, maybe he was ignoring her, who knew but Alice and this boy? All Dorcas knew was that the boy wasn't in their year and looked too old to be a fourth year or even a fifth really ,but he could have been an older looking fifth, Dorcas tried not to dwell too much on the boy, instead she placed her broom against the table and reached into her duffle, she unzipped a little compartment and pulled out an unopened pack of chewing gum and held it out to Alice. "A peace offering. It would be something more but it's all I've got on me at the moment and it's all I've got on me that isn't covered in sweat, water or mud." She said, her arm still extended, her hand still holding out the gum to Alice.

How dull! Even by Alice's standards. And she wasn't really picky. She was sure he was a nice boy. He just.... Well he was just weird. And in their world, that was really saying something. "Oh look Reginald! Caerphilly Catapults lost their match against the Holyhead Harpies." She looked up at him to see if she'd caught his interest. No? Nothing? really? Suddenly Alice was determined to get him to say....SOMETHING! "What is that you're having for breakfast, Reginald?" Looking at him eagerly she watched as he paid no attention to her, however very pointedly took a bite of plane dry toast.
With a slightly annoyed and defeated look, Alice turned back to the paper. AH!! Got it! Snatching an empty cup she looked out from behind the paper. "Hey, Reginald? You think you could get me some more pumpkin juice from down the table?" She smiled sweetly. Alice had made a mission to get him to make friends. At least this way he'd have to summon the juice from down the way. That permitted at least an accio....Waiting, she watched as he pulled out his wand. Holding her breath she waited. But Reginald simply continued sipping his coffee as he wordlessly floated the pitcher her way. Catching it Alice glared a little and went back to hiding behind the paper.
It was then that she heard Dorcas speak to her. Crap. What did she want?! She took in a deep breath and didn't return the hello. "I just wanted to apologize to you. I'm not interrupting anything am I?" It was impossible to hold back. Alice snorted and shook her head with a chuckled little sigh. "Oh you have no idea. Reginald here was just recounting his glory days as a singer!" She'd not really been known to be sarcastic, but the last few days had made her feel... easily irritated. And a little snarky. It stressed her out when she couldn't figure something out. Or in Reginald's case someone. But now the issue wasn't going to be him any longer. Dorcas was here so naturally the story would become all about her.
Alice put the paper down and turned to look at the girl. "Apologize? You?" So she was a little bitter about the incident at the party. How could she not be? The woman had stunned her...For the better half...OF NO REASON AT ALL!!! "What are you really here for, Dorcas??" There was little Dorcas could say or do now that would make Alice like her again. But, there was a time when they all got on well, and Alice was practically the patron saint of second chances. At the moment Dorcas was being pleasant and before the party she'd never done anything against Alice before.
"A peace offering. It would be something more but it's all I've got on me at the moment and it's all I've got on me that isn't covered in sweat, water or mud." It caught Alice off guard a little. Did she really chew gum that often that it was a known bartering chip? She thought back to the boys she'd sent along in the hall. Damn... it was true. "Umm....Thanks..." She slowly took the gum and set it on the table after looking at it once or twice. "Sit...have some..." She looked back to Reginald and his dry toast. "....toast..." Her tone was flat as she turned to her own oatmeal.
She wondered if the gum was hexed. The thought of just out right telling her off right here...in front of practically everyone, did cross her mind. But no doubt she'd heard about what happened after she'd left the party and wouldn't be surprised by Alice standing up for herself. Besides, it wasn't exactly proper to be so out ward in public. "You know... this doesn't mean I totally forgive you. The gum is a start.. don't get me wrong." Mostly because she was almost out and if it wasn't hexed Dorcas had saved her from having to go with out gum for the day. "But...you stunned me Dorcas....I mean... Honestly?!" I gave her an 'Are you bloody insane' type look and just sighed. I wasn't sure she'd ever understand. word count: 774 tags:DORCAS!! lol Clothes:Clicky!Comments:suddenly Alice became....very different from Pensieve Alice....And I don't know how. LOL

Dorcas was anxious about the situation at hand. Alice didn't seem the type to just hex her right now, right here, but then again Dorcas had probably pissed her off quite sufficiently to warrant a hexing, and even if she did deserve it, Dorcas would be willing to defend herself. She didn't want to be hexed! Still, she knew she had to be careful and polite, or at least polite to Alice and Alice's friends, she didn't want to get into any more trouble with them, but she was willing to get into some trouble with anyone else that pissed her off today, apologising tended to put Dorcas in a bit of a bad, temperamental mood.
It seemed as though Alice didn't really believe Dorcas or like her all that much. Dorcas was temporarily offended for a second before remembering that she had hexed the girl, not only had she hexed her but she'd done it in a room full of people that apparently liked her. Well, they may or may not have liked her thinking on it, it was just that everyone else was against her and Adrian and Carrow, not that she blamed them, Adrian was an arse and Carrow an immature bitch. There was plenty to hate really and Dorcas had sort of sided with them, not that she really wanted to, she just wanted to protect Adrian, she did like him after all. No, liked - past tense, she was over him now.
Dorcas didn't blame Alice for checking out the gum a couple of times. Dorcas probably would have done the same. Actually no, Dorcas wouldn't have done the same, if she was in Alice's position she would kick her arse for even coming near her. Dorcas stopped thinking for a little while. She'd confused herself on who was hexing who in her mind. Alice her would be hexing Dorcas her. Yeah, that was it. There was no way Dorcas would be as forgiving as Alice was right now, at least not right away anyway. Dorcas tended to hold grudges for a little bit. Not long really, but long enough to still be pissed the first time she saw the other person again, if that made sense.
Dorcas took a seat next to Reginald who she couldn't ever imagine being a singer. He seemed rather dull and quiet, not to mention he was sort of ugly, but again, Dorcas reminded herself that she shouldn't be judging him just because he looked the way he did or because he was quiet. Still, it was hard to imagine someone you'd never heard speak before sing. Maybe he had a great, deep voice that made women fall at his feet and he was just tired of stepping over them to get wherever he wanted. Dorcas was amused by the thought but kept it to herself, she didn't want to insult Alice's friend by accident or anything.
Alice made it clear to Dorcas that gum didn't make up a complete apology, nor did apologising, but Dorcas was getting more than she had expected, it was almost as if Alice were a Hufflepuff, fair and giving second chances, that was what they all seemed to be about, as well as partying, Dorcas couldn't imagine Alice being a big partier, but who knew, maybe the round faced brunette was the biggest party animal Hogwarts had ever seen, just no one knew about it because she kept it to herself. Maybe not ...
"I know, I shouldn't have done that. I was just pissed off for various reasons and took it out on you. I shouldn't have done that, I'm sorry. And I promise the gum's not hexed or anything." She said trying to reassure Alice, though Dorcas wouldn't blame Alice if she didn't trust her right away, she did hex her. Grabbing a slice of toast and buttering it Dorcas looked to Reginald and then to Alice again before adding some raspberry jam to her toast. There were multiple reasons why she was pissed off, but none of those really mattered any more, she just wanted to move on from Adrian and get on with her life, after all she had no intentions of ever having a future with him now. He was one dick head she could do without and she was sure that her life would be full of other dick heads, jack asses and various other unneeded men that she would just end up classing as a bunch of time wasting wankers that had tried to ruin her life. Yeah, maybe she was a little on the pessimistic side of life.

Alice watched as the great hall began to get a little more busy. It was nice simply because now Dorcas approaching her and sitting at the gryffindor table wasn't going to be the primary focus of this morning's breakfast. However, it meant that if they were to say anything that Alice might want kept private, was more likely to be over heard. Luckily this was not Dorcas' table. Secrets were sure to be kept secret at this table. Looking at Reginald while Dorcas spoke, the pretty head girl politely swallowed spoonfuls of oatmeal. She was contemplating what he actually looked like if he was a performer. The image of his blazing red hair and....were those freckles or achne...? None the less, Alice was now imagining his red cotton swab like head shaking and grooving as he sang to strangely frantic fan girls. His voice was squeaking and wavering. Alice quickly shook her head trying to clear her mind of such strange thoughts. It occurred suddenly to her that suck delusional thoughts could actually make her loose brain cells rather than gain any. Tilting her head, Alice searched Dorcas' face as she quipped in the bit about the gum not being hexed. "Alright then." She nodded once and looked to Reginald again before looking back at her oatmeal. The sound of the buttering knife scraping across the girls toast made Alice look over. It was shockingly quiet there. Reginald sure was a regular jabber jaw. "Ahh jam and butter. See, Reginald. breakfast accoutrement is your friend." She smiled to him and scooted the butter toward him as he blandly munched on his painfully boring toast. He scooted it back and never looked up. Alice was sure that he'd either crack and talk to her, or get so frustrated with her that he'd explode. Half of her would love to see either of those happen. The other half really didn't want to hurt him or make him angry. "Well, to each his own then." Alice sighed and looked down at the paper she had. How did one go about making small talk? With one that had hexed you none the less. Alice set the spoon down and took a piece of gum out of the pack. Nodding a cheers to Dorcas she put it between her teeth and chewed on it tensely. Perhaps this girl was a blessing in disguise. Alice was sociable. She had friends. Sort of. Well Alice was aware that she didn't have VERY good friends. She liked everyone fairly equally. Alice was someone who had only a select few people that she would turn to with anything. "Dorcas...you...seem to be a fairly evened out person right?" HA!!! Yes, that was why she'd hexed poor Alice. Because Dorcas was level headed and well rounded. Ahh that was exactly it. "Alright well no one is perfect but you understand what I mean?" I didn't mean it to sound offensive really. I honestly didn't want to hurt her feelings with that statement. "I'm sorry, that came out wrong. I mean to say you never seem to let things get to you too much. It's an admirable quality." Alice hadn't intended to speak to Dorcas about this particular issue exactly, but with her being there and all, and Alice being desperate for some sort of conversation with an actual human being. Not that Reginald wasn't human. Just that he wasn't conversational. Seriously not conversational! Perhaps he didn't have a tongue. OH! Alice would have felt so bad if he didn't have a tongue. Maybe he had damaged vocal cords. All very possible but if he had wouldn't he have figured out a way to spell things out for people so he wasn't deemed rude? Sign language even. "Your carefree attitude that I've seen thus far is...desirable." Well... that just sounded stupid, and a little creepy. Oh well, hopefully she would understand. Word Count:672 Tag:Dorcy worcy!!!! Dorcas watched as Alice chatted on to Reginald and the boy didn't make a sound back, not even acknowledging that she said anything, heck! They boy didn't even acknowledge her existence or anybody else's for that matter. It was a very strange sort of friendship, Dorcas figured, but it didn't make it any less of a friendship for the two of them she supposed. Though she had to admit, dry toast did look extremely boring. She only ever had that when she was sick ... maybe Reginald was sick, or maybe, quite simply, he just liked dry toast.
Dorcas munched on her toast and was all of a sudden surprised when Alice said she was fairly evened out. Well, Dorcas tried to be but then again she did have her bad moments ... like hexing Alice in the three broomsticks because she'd taken a drunk and aggressive Adrian's wand away from him ... yeah, what had Dorcas been thinking really? She should not have lost her temper so badly and she shouldn't have thought all the rude things she had about Alice, she should apologise for that too, but what Alice didn't know wouldn't hurt her right?
"Uh, I don't know. Sometimes I guess I am." She said, shrugging her shoulders as Alice apologised, though Dorcas wasn't really sure what for, she didn't have anything she needed to apologise for, she'd sort of come out a bit bluntly Dorcas supposed, but Dorcas was a blunt sort of person and was just used to it. There was no use beating around the bush in Dorcas' opinion because sometimes some points just took too long to get across and sometimes they were misinterpreted and most of the time it was just all stupid so really, Dorcas was one for bluntness and getting to the point as soon as was possible.
"It's okay. I've no idea what you're getting at but yeah, I suppose I'm somewhat evened out in my temperament most of the time and I try not to let things get to me, but I don't see how that or my 'carefree' attitude is desireable. You are what you are." She shrugged. IN her opinion there was no use being someone you weren't because it would always come back to haunt you or you'd slip up somehow and cause a lot of comotion and Dorcas wasn't a big one for drama. Okay, sure, she occasionally caused a little drama in her life and the lives of a few others, and yes, she was clumsy as hell and that landed her in the hospital wing a few times and on the bad side of a few snooty arse holes, but all in all, there was no sense in changing who you were, not for anyone, they could either take you as you came or they weren't worth keeping around.
"Are you after something or want me to do something, Alice because you really don't have to butter me up, you can just ask, I owe you big time for being a bitch." she said, the possibility that Alice was trying to sweet talk Dorcas had only just occurred in her mind and yeah, she didn't mind a bit of sweetening up but really, getting to the point was better because then she'd know what Alice was all about right now, why she'd offered Dorcas a seat at the table. Maybe Alice wanted Dorcas to hex someone, Dorcas had been quite bitch to Alice and owed her more than just gum as an apology but Dorcas wasn't sure Alice was the type to want Dorcas to hex someone for her, maybe Alice was after something different, or maybe nothing at all, maybe Dorcas shouldn't have said anything but it didn't matter now, she'd already said it on impulse rather than thinking it through first, that was another habit of Dorcas' that she really should try to control, mainly because her mouth also got her into a fair bit of trouble every now and then with the wrong sorts of people.

She was good at assuming. I held my breath a little and just stared straight ahead. I was mulling over the idea of talking to her as if she were someone I could confide in. Taking a long sip of my juice. I looked to Reginald shortly. Well, talking to Dorcas would be better than talking to him. Having any sort of conversation with Reginald was like talking to a brick wall. And not the kind that lead to diagon ally. The kind that did nothing... just sat there. Uncomforting and unresponsive. However my chances with Dorcas were only fifty percent better. At least she'd react.
"Alright.. Um... I'm predictable. That's...That's my problem." I almost thought she'd say she knew I was going to say that. Truth was I hated being predictable. Not only was it very unsafe having everyone know just what your going to say or do, its...dull. "I'm boring." I heard Reginald snort a little but not look up. "Can it, Crater Face!" I looked shocked and covered my mouth. "I'm so sorry Reginald!" He simply rolled his eyes and shook his head. Ass. I closed my eyes. This was a shining example. Of course I'd appologize for my brutally honest outburst.
I turned away from the table and picked up my bag. I took Dorcas' toast practically right out of her mouth and set it on a napkin. "Eat and walk. Come on." I stood her up nicely and tugged the sleave of her arm along behind me as I made my way out to the hall and to the nearest girls room. "Okay." I closed my eyes a paced. "What do you see when you look at me? Neh..I already know..." I rubbed my face. "You'd say to me, 'Well, Alice, you're the boss. Miss perfectly perfect little good girl with no intentions of letting anyone get away with anything. You read all damn day and get fabulous grades. I'm not sure why you're in the circle of friends right now. You got lucky and James Potter asked you to the dance. Now suddenly you're friends with everyone. But truely no one really thinks you're cool. People think you're...predictable." I was carying on like a mad woman and I knew it.
I halted my pacing and looked at her. "How do you do it, Dorcas? How do you get everyone to like you? Gryffindors like you, the Slytherins like you. Smart, pretty, fat stupid, EVERYONE likes you. You're...you're fun and free and no one... looks at you like... Like you're going to give them detention. I just...." I slumped against the wall. "I can believe I'm telling you all this."
This was crazy! I was looking worse by the second. I was just getting used to the idea that I could be friends with non fictional people. Now I was hashing out internal issues with people I didn't exactly know on a deep emotionally connected friendship basis. Brushing my hair back and yanking out the bow I toyed with the little ribbon. "I need...to loosen up. I feel like I could be that fun loving person people like to hang out with. If I had the opportunity to try it. But I never get the chance." I suddenly felt like I was talking too much. But it was nice to get it all out. "Do you know how hard it is to get a guy to notice you when you're me? I'll tell you.. the Dance... with James... My one and only date ever. No Dates before... no boyfriends. Boys don't look at me. I'm simple Alice. No one bothers. Not that I'm ugly. Just that I'm not anything eye catchy."
My head leaned back against the wall and I closed my eyes. This was stupid. Like Dorcas was going to be able to fix this. I was unfixable. An unexciting detention weilding, predictable....bore. I so did not need to be stressed about this right now. Again.. how typical of me to be worried that I'm not worrying enough about studying. Stupid.

Predictable? Well this conversation wasn't all that predictable in Dorcas' opinion, but Dorcas didn't know Alice all that well really, so maybe, to someone that knew Alice inside and out, this was a predictable direction for the conversation, then again, one would assume that someone that knew Alice so well would know just how her mind worked and what way it was going to go. Dorcas didn't really like that all that much. Possibly why she didn't have many close friends these days, though it seemed she was always making new ones, just how long until she ruined this friendship? Though in all fairness it started ruined so Dorcas was pretty sure it couldn't get much worse.
Alice continued on and Reginald, for the first time since Dorcas had been at the table, made a noise. It wasn't a word or anything like that, but it was something and what threw Dorcas even more was that Alice told Reginald off in a most impolite way. Dorcas was surprised, this wasn't really all that predictable, but then again, Alice was sort of opening herself up and Reginald sort of scoffed at her. Reginald was in the wrong and Dorcas probably would have done more than just insulted him a little if he'd done that to her, but then again, Alice was a lot nicer than Dorcas and the proof was before her, Alice apologised to Reginald. He didn't deserve the apology but he also didn't seem to care.
Before she could take another bite of her toast, Alice snatched it away from Dorcas' mouth, Dorcas was sort of stunned but followed Alice pretty quick as she left the great hall, after all, she did have Dorcas' toast and not to mention Alice was tugging on her robes, dragging her arm making it impossible for her to do anything but follow. Still, Dorcas didn't mind too much because she'd been really pretty nasty to Alice over some guy, some guy she didn't even like all that much, she just had a really, really strong urge to screw him. He was hot. And the quidditch captain.
Alice dragged Dorcas into the nearest girls toilets and Dorcas looked about. All the stalls were empty and so she assumed they were alone. As quickly and uninteruptingly as she could, Dorcas nabbed her toast off of Alice while she paced. Checking the toast to make sure it didn't have any fluff on it Dorcas was only half paying attention to what Alice was saying, and then Alice started rambling on and Dorcas paid a little more attention. Her right eyebrow arching up inquisitively as though she'd just stumbled upon something most peculiar, a slight hint of fear in her eyes as though Alice had actually gone mental and was about to kill Dorcas. Still, Dorcas didn't let this stop her from popping her toast in her mouth and taking a bite.
All of a sudden, Alice stopped pacing. Alice was looking directly at Dorcas and her left eyebrow jumped up to join the right as a look of surprise smacked Dorcas front on. Did Alice really think everyone liked her? Dorcas couldn't believe it. Okay, so she got on well with a few Slytherins, mainly guys she'd slept with or constantly flirted with, but most of the girls she sort of had disagreements with, a few fights here and there, but that was because girls could be bitchy and possessive about their boyfriends and Dorcas was a little more free-spirited than the rest of them, and so were their boyfriends.
Dorcas didn't really get the opportunity to get a word in edge ways. Alice moved from one thing to the next, pacing, not pacing, leaning against a wall, sliding down it. Dorcas cringed a little. The walls and the floor probably weren't the cleanest they'd ever been in this bathroom, but she dared not mention it to Alice, it seemed as though she'd had plenty on her mind right now without having to worry about where she was sitting, still, Dorcas felt as though she should help, she owed Alice big time and felt bad for the head girl, Alice wasn't that boring was she? Dorcas didn't think anyone could be as boring as Alice was making herself sound but Dorcas didn't really know Alice all that well, maybe she was a bore.
"I think you've got me all wrong. I mean I love a good party but I don't really have friends. Guys like me because they think they stand a chance with me because I get labelled a whore or a slut or whatever else jealous girls can think of. But maybe they're right." Dorcas shrugged her shoulders. "I like to party, to drink and I have been known to sleep around a bit." Yeah, okay, that was a bit awkward to say to the head girl and person she'd never really spent this much time talking to ever. "But this is just school. This isn't going to matter too much in another month. You'll be able to completely reinvent yourself when exams are over and you've got yourself a job. You'll meet new people, new guys and they'll be into you. You're gorgeous. Boys in school are just idiots that don't realise that beauty is more than just looks." Dorcas really wasn't sure how to handle this sort of thing right now. She sort of wanted to cheer Alice up but how could you cheer someone up from Alice's little rant?
"Look, this is just my personal opinion, but study, do your exams and get the best grades possible then when Hogwarts is over I'll take you out clubbing with me or just on a pub crawl. You can get all dressed up in something skimpy and watch as guys fall at your feet. It'll be fun, we'll get drunk and who knows, we might even get a dance or two from some eager guys we have no intentions of seeing ever again!" Hopefully, Dorcas thought, this would make her feel a little better, give her something to look forward to, though obviously it wasn't even a slightest fix as to who she was, but why would she want to change that? Once in the real world she wouldn't be able to hand out detentions so no one would be scared of her, in Dorcas' opinion, all Alice had to do really was wait.

Alice sighed as she bit her nail. Dorcas was most likely right. She may not have wanted to admit that, but she knew it. Clamping her eyes shut tight, Alice wished she would have just kept her mouth shut. But honestly someone would have had to cursed it shut. And even then her words were like a freight train speeding out of the end of a tunel. It was no use. Maybe it was just that Dorcas missed the point. Alice didn't want to be stuffy studies all the time girl. She wanted to be gets good grades but it a hoot and a half at parties girl.
"You seem to manage just fine. I see what you mean, but I'm not stupid, I know that sometimes its who you've rubbed elbows with that gets you places." That wasn't the point either though. Maybe the solution was much more simple than she made it seem. Perhaps this was just the result of Alice over thinking things. But when you didn't have anyone to talk to, you ended up sitting around thinking to yourself. And sometimes, especially if you were Alice, that ended up being both dull and a bit dangerous. "I think I need to get out. For the love of Merlin! Not even that snub nosed dolt, Reginald will talk to me. He barely acknowlages that I exist! Boys aren't really the problem here. You would have thought at least a split second longer about hexing me if I was anyone even a little more important than me. "
She shook her head and stood back up. This was getting stupid now. Alice was just going to go back to the library and hide for a while in the back. "I've studied plenty. My brain actually feels like it's blow up with all the spells and potion ingredients I've cramed into it." She blew away a strand of her hair out of her face and went to the sink to wash up. "I didn't mean to burden you with all this, Dorcas. Thank you for being so understanding. Lets call us even then okay?" Alice smiled to her as if nothing had happened. She'd gotten fairly good at hiding things. When you didn't really talk to people it was harder for them to judge what was genuine and what you were just feeding to them to make them satisfied.
