Let me tell you, a little something about myself[/color]
Kaine is the oldest son of Byron Gates (Slytherin) and Larena Gates (Slytherin). He comes from a Pureblood family and is exceedingly proud of his family history and inheritance. The Gates are a pretty wealthy family, but Kaine is not the type to show it off. For all his Slytherin heritage and bloodline, he is surprisingly modest and unassuming. He’s never gotten on well with his father; to say their relationship is strained is something of an understatement. He is one of the few people who is not exactly proud of his Slytherin background, yet at the same time would not like to be in any other house. His father is the complete opposite; Slytherin through and through and every proud of it. Kaine hates his fate’s sheer arrogance and snobbishness. Kaine has unfortunately inherited that arrogant trait from Byron, but he is nowhere near as bad with it as his father is. He takes more after his mother Larena; comfortable with his lot in life, but feels no need to shout about it from the rooftops.
When he was four, his parents had another child, a daughter they named Kayla. Kaine was immediately very protective of her, and as they grew up together, the pair became very close. It was very rare indeed to find the two separated, and they had so much in common. Kaine would often stand up to their father for the both of them whilst Kayla supported him from more of a distance. The arguments the father and son had were terrible; ornaments would quite often be thrown and broken in agitation, and more than once it resulted with Lorena, Kayla or both running off in tears. Kaine has learnt from his father’s sometimes violent outbursts to be more in control of his temper, as he refuses to grow up to become someone like Byron.
Age 11 Kaine headed off to Hogwarts, having to leave 7 year old Kayla behind. That was the one thing he hated; having to leave his sister. He loved Hogwarts from the moment he arrived, and after the slight disappointment of being put into Slytherin, soon settled into a comfortable routine. He made friends quickly, being quite an open and fun-loving young person. Kaine does not strictly follow the ‘rules’ that govern Slytherin; he feels it was more because of his heritage and his temper that he ended up in there. The only other House he would have liked was Ravenclaw, but he has too short a fuse and too arrogant a streak for it. He has the intelligence, but that’s about it.
The day Kayla finally came to Hogwarts was a joyous day indeed for Kaine. He loves his little sister more than anything, and it felt good to have someone with him during his last few years. She too was sorted into Slytherin, and so the two were able to spend a lot more time together once again. During the four years he had already been away from home during term time, Kayla had toughened up lot and has developed a real attitude of her own. The Gates siblings together make quite a pair, and people would more avoid them than try to interact with them. In all fairness though, Kaine loves school and wants to do as well as he possibly can. He believes in getting good grades, and knows that he has to believe in himself in order to achieve everything that he wants. This is where his arrogance does actually come in useful, as he has a very good success rate when it comes to his work. He loves learning new things and absorbs as much information as he can. At the same time, he knows how to have a good time and loves getting other people involved in his mischief.
