Let me tell you, a little something about myself

there are certain elements of a wizards character that determines where they are placed in the unwritten, often unspoken, wizards hierarchy.
for one, being of pure blood automatically puts you in above the genetically malfunctioning mud-bloods. though of equal, if not more importance is for the wizard in question to recognise this status. there is no point in pretending to merge with the masses when the truth is you are better than them. playing happy families over a pitcher of butterbeer and a game of bertie botts every flavour beans, simply isn’t viewed as dignified in the eyes of those who count. good looks and ambition are of course high upon the list. these eyes still watch, even though their voices have been muffled by the liberal do-gooders seeking equality.
rodolphus lestrange was certainly on their radar; attractive, focused, diligent, he was more than aware of his standing in the social status. he seemed to possess an air that captured anyone and everyone’s attention when he walked into a room. he created no fuss, there was no clacking of a cane echoing with each of his footstep, he just walked with the pride of his a thousand ancestors radiating from within him. slytherin was really the only place for a boy like him. there he met others of his kind, those who shared the same mindset, who believed in the importance of purity and preventing contamination of the wizarding blood lines.
he excelled in Hogwarts, just as it was expected. out of his friends, the malfoy’s, the crabbe’s, the goyle’s, he was probably the quietest, the most refined. he often observed situations rather than partaking in them. quiditch was infact one of his favourite sports, and he despised the rule that first years weren’t allowed their own broomstick. instead he spent his entire summer, in-between social events practicing flying with his brothers - rabastan. rodolphus was a beater, just like in a social setting his job was to observe, to make sure none of his fellow team-mates came into harm and wreak as much havoc with his bat and bludger as possible. he’d managed to knock a few people off their brooms in his time at hogwarts, only never a gryffindor.
rodolphus and his brother had always taken pleasure in pain and watching others suffer. where as rabastan would hoot and howl when a spell he had cast, or a punch he had thrown caused his brothers face to contort in pain, rodolphus would simply stand there, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lip as he took in the tightening of muscles around the eyes. Tthat was when he knew he’d done a good job, the tightening of the eyes was a show of real pain. at hogwarts he could hardly get away with cursing his brother in the middle of the great hall to take out his frustrations; instead he channeled all his anger and thirst for pain into his quiditch. into hitting the bludger so hard that it knocked the wind out of the recipient.
it wasn’t until rodolphus’ fifth year that he noticed bellatrix black. once he had noticed her, he wasn’t entirely sure how he hadn’t before. there was a wild intensity to her that seemed to glint behind her dark eyes when she surveyed a room, that created static in the air when he walked past her. rodolphus was never one to be short of a date, and until she was of a suitable age, he remained never short of dates. Upon their engagement his parents were satisfied. he’d found a witch from a well respected, pure-blood family, who seemed to hold his attention too, so both parties were winning.
upon graduating hogwarts with NEWTs as promising as one would expect from a young man of such stature, rudolphus found that beliefs shared by him and other slytherins were infact greater in the outside world. hogwarts had somehow manage to neutralise the unrest somewhat about mud bloods not only being allowed entry into hogwarts, but being placed in the same classes and houses of fellow purebloods. moving in these circles, rodolphus‘ beliefs became deeply routed once he learnt that others shared the same views as him; until he firmly believed that he, and others of his kind were superior to those of inferior blood, and it was his duty, alongside others to prevent the further diluting of wizarding blood.
