Let me tell you, a little something about myself[/color]
Iain was born in Scotland as the second half of identical twins (his brother's called Cailean). It was quite a surprise to their parents, but a happy one, and the boys quickly grew inseparable. They weren't exceptionally wealthy, but well-to-do enough and there was plenty of love and affection to go around. As Scott and Imogen had only expected one baby, they only had one crib and everything, but the boys were happy to share and have shared a room (and often a bed) ever since. Even after they attended Hogwarts (both Scott and Imogen were wizards, so there was no doubt that they would) they were known to end up asleep on each other half the time (even if they were in different houses, as Cailean was in Ravenclaw). It lead to a few slightly unpleasant rumours, but nothing the boys couldn't handle or what never wore off with time. After a while, the rest of the students just had to accept that the boys were joined at the hip.
Although they looked similar (both lanky, freckly teenagers) and were together almost at all times, Iain and Cailean were fairly easily distinguished from one another - and not just because they had different uniforms. Where Iain was geared towards social contacts, stealing people's hearts with his easy babble and making friends because of his enthusiastical nature, Cailean was the more contemplative of the two, more obviously sensitive in nature, but no less gentle. Another big difference was that Iain somehow always landed into trouble (often pulling Cailean along and down with him, oops!), being a bit of a reckless boy and known not to back down from a challenge. He'd been a difficult child to raise from the moment he learned to move around (climbing trees and falling out, coming up with impossible schemes and plans). He meant well and wasn't a bad kid on purpose, but he just tended to lose sight of reality a little and was a little careless when it came to consequences. Iain's broken more bones than he can remember.
To be honest, he's probably bipolar, but no one's diagnosed him with it because he's just not extreme enough to raise suspicion of a mental condition. (Plus it wasn't that high-profile in the seventies as it is now.)
After graduating, both brothers had a bit of a difficult time, as suddenly life without each other seemed daunting and impossible. Cailean got a job at the Ministry, doing something with International Relations, while Iain went into medicine (especially the trauma department and the IC, surprisingly enough, despite anything, he performs best under stress). Iain and his brother shared a flat at first, but then Cailean got himself a girlfriend. Iain was happy for him that he had, of course, but eventually Iain moved out because it was obvious he was a bit of a third wheel. He'd been looking for a job after a few internships at St. Mungo's he applied to the role of an assistent in the Hogwarts Hospital Wing. Admittedly? He's been a bit lonely without Cailean and he's hoping being back in the familiar surroundings of his previous school might remedy that a bit. He's aware that his relationship to his brother is maybe a little too close to be healthy, so that's why he's moved to Hogwarts while Cailean is in London - he's supposed to become his own person now, isn't he? An individual without being part of a set.
It terrifies him.
PS. My accepted character points go to: HUFFLEPUFF!
I just want to thank a friend of mine for inspiration. I play a set of twins with her with the same playby and she plays the bipolar one there. I don't want to copy her completely and Iain is not her character with a different name, but I just love him so much - I want to play something like him. So just in case she comes across this, thanks for the inspiration <3
