Let me tell you, a little something about myself[/color]
The Malfoy family are obviously notoriously wealthy, although Porcius' (Tanith's) branch less-so than Abraxas' (Lucius') - Porcius being the younger brother and thus not the heir, with the arguably popular 'heir and a spare' procreative methods of upper-class English families at one point. Tan was the first and only child born to Camille and Porcius Malfoy, brother of the highly regarded Abraxas Malfoy. Porcius was the less respected of the two brothers, and still retains a deep-seated bitterness for his elder brother who seems to outshine him in all aspects of life. It was this jealousy so to speak that led Porcius to seek out a wife quickly after Abraxas married, anxious to keep up appearances. His marriage to Camille was arranged by her highly-respected Pureblooded French family, although she was quite a few years his junior and the marriage was primarily one of economic and blood-line imperatives. Porcius Malfoy rather lives up to his namesake of 'pig'. Keeping his prestigious postion at the Ministry of Magic only through the connotations the Malfoy name holds, Porcius' main concerns in life are his rather questionable assosciates and side-lines, and the bottom of a Firewhiskey bottle. By the time Tanith was born Porcius and Camille lived alongside one another in a coolly estranged but outwardly serene marriage - whilst Porcius wanted what Abraxas had, to outshine him, he found marriage (and later) children boring and oppressive compared to the playboy lifestyle he had been able to live before, with none of the pressures of being the heir (the lifestyle which led him into later alcoholism) and grew to resent his decision.
Tanith was, ultimately, a disappointment to Porcius, who was hoping for an heir to rival his brothers' older child, Lucius. Alas, this was not the case and Tanith came into the world, not kicking and screaming and bleeding blue blood as Porcius expected, but instead rather feebly, a month early, quite wheezy and weak and not the Malfoy he expected at all. A physical manifestation of his inadequacy to Abraxas, the child fuelled Porcius’ inferiority complex and would cement a lifelong nervous and antagonistic relationship. Growing up, Tanith and her parents kept a distance, brought up mostly by nannies and governesses away from a hostile and fearful relationship with Porcius, nor a tenuous relationship with the un-maternal Camile. Whilst Tanith didn’t fear Cam, she avoided her mostly all the time, the latter making it plain her frustration with motherhood in practice, and preference for a silent, pretty doll-like creature she could dress up in her own likeness.
Having spent a childhood in the largely secluded family estate in the quiet, affluent Wootten Bassett area of Wiltshire, Tanith spent most of her time with Governesses and various carefully selected playmates from connected families, leading to an ultimately sheltered younger years. By the time she came to Hogwarts, Tanith, whilst still harbouring the beliefs of supremacy for her bloodline and class (which she would grow to question, albeit secretly, as she grew older), and content as a loner, was sorted into Slytherin. Growing up in the hectic atmosphere of Hogwarts, with hundreds of teenagers thrown together, was entirely different to the quiet, microcosm-like school and social life she had had in childhood. Most of her time therefore is spent alone, working on school work, reading or pouring over back issues of the Daily Prophet crossword (which, along with an unfortunate smoking habit and sweet-tooth, is a guilty pleasure of hers), along with spending time doting on and overfeeding her exceptionally overweight cat, Hepzebah. However she rarely considers her time at school lonely. Due to the amount of time she devotes by default to schoolwork, Tan is quite studious and achieves good marks, entertaining vague and secret aspirations of working in the Medical Magic field after leaving school next year.
Being quiet, coupled with Tan’s appearance means that she finds it quite easy to blend in or go unnoticed which is, most of the time, her intention. She is not a particularly striking person aesthetically; slight in stature and skinny to the point of looking scrawny (which chain-smoking probably hasn’t aided), which she dislikes coupled with being frustratedly flat-chested. Added to this, she is quite messy in terms of her outward appearance, mostly found in baggy jumpers and ink stained shirts. Due to her surname most likely, she has not experienced considerable bullying at school, but instead keeps a quiet distance from other students which they are generally all to glad to return. When she does bother speaking to other people it takes her a long time to become friends with someone, she can often come across, despite the 'shrinking-violet' impression as snarky or sharp-tongued, derisive or conversely jittery and treats others, in that inimitable Slytherin way with inherent distrust.
