That was what it felt like - your alarmclock on shuffle. Not only did Nessa feel like she'd been torn apart and stitched together again, but she was mostly just so tired. In retrospect, giving borth hadn't been so bad, of course. It had been a relatively easy birth, no complications, just one person from her belly to the outside world. One tiny person with a complete set of fingers and toes and everything. (She still couldn't quite believe it.)
Nessa just hadn't been able to fathom that it took so long, though. When her mother had given birth to Myrea, time had seemed to go so fast, everything in a hurry. Back then she'd been playing with her dolls in the waiting room, though - now she'd been squeezing out a little person herself. Although it had definitely been worth it in the end, Nessa had to admit to herself that she'd not do it for fun anytime soon.
She'd liked the pregnancy throughout. There had been no weird complications, her side of the family had been overjoyed (she wasn't so sure about Amos' parents, she hadn't known them that well yet at first and that made their reactions hard to read), she hadn't had too many weird cravings - not bad. Two of the other plus-sides of having a baby in your belly, by the way, was that you always knew where he was (and being separated from Cedric felt weird somehow, did that make sense?), but mostly that you couldn't hear him. Nessa (and probably Amos too) could very much hear Cedric right now. At least their little boy had come into the world with a well-developed set of lungs. Unfortunately, he seemed to be lacking a general sense of time; they'd just put him to bed after the first feed of the night two hours ago and now he was crying again. It made Nessa feel insecure - she wasn't starving him, was she? Her mother made it all sound so easy, but it really really wasn't.
Groaning slightly, Nessa rolled to her side so she push herself up. No one had told her that even after giving birth stuff would still hurt so much. Delivering Cedric into the world had surely been the most energy-draining thing she had ever, ever, done - she hadn't really noticed at the time, because it had all been hormones and pain and instincts kicking in which had actually made her pretty energetic - but now, two days later? Nessa was exhausted.
She considered nudging Amos, but thought the better of it. He was the one who had to get up to a job in the morning, after all (and the actual alarm clock informed her that it was currently only just past four at night). So she didn't nudge Amos. Instead, she kissed his cheek (or his ear - somewhere on his face anyway, it was dark and she couldn't see) and mumbled a sleepy 'I'll get him' which was probably unintelligable.
Then, she made sleepy-drunk slumbles towards the baby's room (which probably would've woken up Amos even if Cedric hadn't).
When she flicked on the light, both Nessa and Cedric blinked to adjust. Nessa had been glad to see that Cedric took after his dad, mostly, but this expression of confusion and blind-ness as the light switched on definitely had 'Nessa' written al over it.
Rubbing her eyes and tucking a strand of copper hair behind her ear, Nessa made her way over to the crib. "Hey superhero," she muttered as she lifted the crying boy. "Hungry again, or-eww.." Ah, yes. She had given birth to a poop-factory. Wonderful. "I don't know, but I think you didn't get these stinky habits from either me or your dad, so you better get rid of them soon," she joked with a yawn as she put down her son on the changing mat and started searching for a clean diaper.
