Roderick sat at the large oak desk at the front of his classroom. where had the time gone? Friday night he had arrived at Hogwarts with only enough time to unpack and find his bed. Saturday had turned out to be much bigger of a day than he had planned. With the position of ancient runes came the leftover paperwork from the previous professor. This coupled with a meeting with Dumbledor and formalities with staff that he hadn't had time to let Addie know he was here. That would change, or in fact already had. He had sent an Owl as he dressed. The letter made it seem she was in trouble, she wasn't of course, Rod had already seen a breakdown of her grades and especially her progress in ancient runes. She was a fine student as he expected, maybe too fine and Rod was going to play that up a bit.
Papers littered his desk, it was a lot of work to find out what they had covered, how they learned and if he needed to change his lesson plan accordingly. Rod took a sip of tea. He had been too busy to visit the great hall for breakfast, so tea and toast served to keep him company for now. A crick in his neck forced him to look up. The walls held large prints of runes, paintings of famous wizards and old professors of the subject. It was a musty old classroom, but Rod liked it that way. He loved everything about this place, including the smell. Standing Rod stretched. Going from Auror to professor took a toll. He was restless, and kept expecting something to ambush him. He wasn't as paranoid as most Aurors, but if you've been ambushed as many times as he has you tend to be a little cautious. Sliding the silver pocket watch from his vest he frowned. Ten to nine and the place was a mess. Addie would be here soon. Pulling his wand he flicked it at the desk. Papers stacked and quills ordered themselves neatly. Another swift motion and a fresh pot of tea appeared with a soft pop. Two cups appeared next to the kettle and steam drifted from the spout. Rod sat patiently, Addie would be on time, she always was.

This weekend had sucked and now with the owl perched on her shoulder, it sucked even more. "How the hell can I be failing Ancient Runes?" She hollered at the parchment in her hands, this was a joke, Adeline was always on top of her homework and if she didn't get good grades she put herself down, that was just how it was. Grabbing her jacket from the post of her bed she sighed. This wasn't going to go over well at all. Just her luck, Kaine was mad at her, Colle hated her, and now she gets a letter saying she was failing Ancient Runes, which was outright impossible. Grabbing her blue purse she scampered out of the dorm room and quickly out the portal of the Gryffindor Common room. Hurrying toward the classroom she had been summoned to. Professor Bathsheba was going to have her ears full of rage when she witnessed that of the power behind the Giovanni name. Marching down the staircase and down a long corridor she found the Ancient Runes classroom and pushed open the door loudly. "Professor!" She called out, it wasn't even a question, Adeline was more aggrivated than passive and this was how she showed it. "There has been a mistake, there is no logical, nor possible way I am failing your class." She stopped for a moment then looked from the parchment to the front fo the classroom. "Father?" The leaf of paper fell to the floor and she forgot completely why she had come here, walking quickly to the front of the room. It had been forever since she had seen him and she threw herself at him into a huge hug. "Where've you been? I've hardly recieved letters from you and mother after winter break, and I hardly hear from Ollie." She did not show any signs of letting go, without her knowing tears rolled off her nose. "you don't understand how happy I am to see you right now, school has been hell in a hand basket of late. It seems every corner I turn a new person hates me." {word count} 368 {clothing} Hullo!

rod laughed as she stormed in. Her reaction was just as he expected. Grabbing onto her he held her tight for a moment. She smelled just as he remembered. "I am sorry Adeline, but you know, the ministry keeps me on my toes. Please, sit I hope I'm not keeping you from anything. it was short notice so I was unable to tell you, so I thought a surprise would be best. I hope you still like tea." He smiled and offered her a chair. "As you may have guessed I am your new runes professor." He poured the tea and slid the cup towards her. for a moment he didn't know what to say. It felt as if he barely knew her, and being here made him feel as if he was intruding on her life. He pushed the thoughts away and focused on her. "Your mother and I have been so busy, as for Oliver, i barely hear from him anymore as well. I do wish he would come back to the wizarding community. It worries me not to have in in touch with magic. well, your brother can take care of himself, tell me about you. How is it here? do you have many friends?" The words seemed to spill from his mouth now.
Rod couldn't rid the smile from his face, but in the back of his mind something lurked threatening to steal his bad mood. He was here as a teacher, yes but also as an Auror. He had a duty to root out and take care of dark wizards, including students. It was a full time job and one that might interfere with Addie and her schooling. rod opened his mouth to ask her, but decided against it. He could save such talk for another time. Besides, his true mission was in all essence a secret, and if it got out it would spread and he would be watched and possibly targeted. It wasn't a hard secret to figure out, but one that would at least leave room for speculation. his smile grew wider. There he went again, letting his mind wander too far and losing sight of what was right in front of him. He focused on his daughter, her smiling face. This was all he needed right now.

It was good to see her father again, but it worried her. Why was he here? As a professor? Something had to of happened. Scenarios ran through her head as she looked at him, dressed clean and uptight as always, there was something off. She found the chair next to him and crossed her legs at her knees and smiled brightly. "I get to see you everyday, and you're going to be grading my work, means I'm going to have to be more precise." A giggle escaped her lips as she looked up at him. "Not that it wasn't already, but I do not think it is, well good enough for you." Grabbing a cup of tea she smiled again. This was her dad, the man he made it possible for her to have life.
So they barely heard from Ollie either, it bothered her a little, she would write him tonight and find out what was going on, she did miss him. "I....I don't have many friends. I feel that all the Gryffindors are stuck up on pride to be bothered with, they don't feel that they have the need for education and they're always frolicking around pulling pranks and what not. Well, everyone aside from Ms. Evans, she is my house competition." Taking a sip from her tea-cup Adeline couldn't help, but smile. What else could she ask for and then it dawned on her, "oh, um Father?" It was always the same, that tone of voice, and the slight inclination of his head, she knew he was listening. "I..have something to ask of you." Looking him in the eyes, she didn't want to seem weak here with him. This was her father, one of the most powerful Aurors she knew, even though there were a few older and wiser, he blew through the training with nothing less than excellence.
"There is a boy, we are at the moment boyfriend and girlfriend, atleast I hope everything is okay." A nervous laugh vibrated from her chest and she grabbed the hem of her dress. "We went to the Valentine's dance with each other, but his best friend hates me." Clenching her jaw a little she looked out over her favorite classroom in the entire castle that was Hogwarts and then back to Roderick. "He's a Slytherin."

He was listening intently with a smile on his face. It faltered however at the mention of a boyfriend. "Oh" he said gathering his thoughts. Of course this would happen she was a girl and at school, Rod himself had met Ava at Hogwarts. Rod was one of the best Aurors of his day, but nothing taught you how to be a father. "Um" rod was at a loss for a moment. "Adeline" he said straightening in his chair. "You are my daughter, and I have to be protective of you it's my job. However, you are your own woman now and can date who you please." His tongue felt fat and the words left a gross taste in his mouth. "Houses here in Hogwarts are more...of a guideline. The sorting hat gets it right, judging people, but you have to think that the simple fact of being in the house influences your actions, even in a small way. Gryffindor is a proud house, thus the people in that house are more likely to think themselves proud in turn. The point I make is that you can belong to any house, but you can still be your own person at heart. If you like a Slitheryn so be it, you and he make your own choices. Those alone should determine who you are, not the name your filed under. I was a Ravenclaw in my day, as was your brother but you were sorted into Gryffondor, and it must have been for good reason. Maybe the pride you have in your family sets you apart from Ravenclaws, I know it's not your grades." Rod beamed at her. "It pains me to believe you are growing up, and I feel that I have missed most of your life. However, I want to be here for you in the best way I can." Rod took a sip of tea. "However" he said his tone changing instantly. "He must know that if he harms you in any way I will not hesitate to use all manor of foul curses upon him, and wreck his bloody grades as well." Rod grinned. "Tell me about him."
