Halls were beginning to get a little emptier, and she was happily walking down them with one destination in mind. The echo of her heels on the stone floor was loud, but she paid it no attention. Arms full of books her feet were carrying her to the one spot no Gryffindor dared to go alone, but Addie could care less. She had one question that ran through her mind.
Maybe that was why she was sorted into Gryffindor, she was the first in 53 years to be sorted into that house. The other Giovanni's were sorted into Ravenclaw, and that is probably why she could care less about house rivalries, she actually hated it. Yes, she was rather brilliant to be in the Gryffindor house, but her persistence forced her foot there. It upset her to be separated from her brother the most, but then again that boy was a genius.
Making way down the stairs she was hoping to catch him before he went into the common room for the evening, she would wait as long as she had too, just to talk to him. Now, Addie hated being booked under the same house as the Marauders, they were far to ridiculous, and didn't even try. Finally she made it down the stairs in the midst of some students, ignoring the cat calls and hollers. Setting her books down on the ground she leaned against the wall a little looking for Kaine.
She didn't know exactly why she had her heart set on him. Ian was a good kid too, but he wasn't really what she was looking for, he drew the friend card in her book, but nothing more. For starters she knew her father wouldn't approve, but she also knew he wouldn't approve of Kaine if anything really kicked off, granted she doubted anything would, but she could try. At least he was intelligent and at least he would get her witty humor, or she hoped. They had a few classes together, it wasn't like she didn't know what he looked like, but she liked what she saw.
Looking down at her shoes, Adeline began to rock back and forth slightly. Her eyes lined up to meet the lean Slytherin clad man, her cheeks burned like fire, her ears burned, her heart was on fire and alighting her whole. "Kaine...I..." Addie was at a loss for words when she came face to face with the guy she's had her eyes on for a while now. "Er....Can...Will...." She was so calm cool and collected until he showed up. There were eyes on her, why was she so shy all of a sudden. Wishing now she wasn't in Gryffindor more than ever, her heart skipped a beat, she wanted to release verbal vomit all over, but she stood tall, stuttering, but her eyes started to climb. "You're rather tall...." It came out as if no one was listening. Her eyes finally meeting his and she gulped...his eyes were so dark...his hair was so shiny... "Eh..." She was lost in the sight of him.

Kaine had one thing, and one thing only on his mind right now; food. He was starving. He'd overslept this morning...quite badly actually, and had completely missed breakfast. Then at lunchtime he got so caught up in trying to catch up on some work that he forgot to eat. Now, classes were over, his stomach was yelling at him, and so after dumping his stuff on his bed, he'd decided to head towards the nearest source of food.
The dungeons were pretty busy; people were heading back from classes and all around him was excitable chattering and the general happy feeling of classes being over and the weekend just on the horizon. He smiled softly to himself; it was a nice atmosphere to be in, even though they were in the dungeons...quite possibly one of the most depressing places in Hogwarts. Though if you got used to it being quiet and somewhat gloomy, they were actually a very good place to grab some quiet time and think things over.
He spotted a Gryffindor girl huddled next to a wall nearby. She seemed to be watching as he walked closer, and he frowned a little, wondering why she was all the way down here when her common room was in the other direction. He recognised her from class. "Adeline....?" The name floated into his head and he nodded subconsciously. Adeline was her name. From what he could recall, she was quite a bright spark and had a sibling in Ravenclaw.
Kaine liked to know his classmates. It made life so much easier. House rivalries were for first years; after that, it became tedious and somewhat annoying. It was simpler just to try and get along with everybody. Kaine wasn't really your stereotypical Slytherin; he certainly had a nasty streak to him, and definitely had a sly side, but he sometimes wondered if the Sorting Hat had actually messed up a little when he put Kaine into Slytherin. It was in his blood though....maybe that was it.
Kaine was knocked out of his little daydream when the Gryffindor addressed him. "Kaine...I...". Seems she was struggling with her words a bit. He stopped walking and looked at her expectantly. "Er...can...will..." This would've been cringeworthy if she didn't have prettiness on her side.
"You're rather tall..."
He had watched her eyes slowly head upwards till they finally met his. She seemed very nervous. Maybe it was a tad nerve-wracking, walking up to a rather tall Slytherin boy when you had a handful of books and were from the opposing House.
"You noticed?" He looked down at his own legs and then back up at her. "I am rather, yes. Some would even say lanky, but I take that rather offensively. I'd like to say the rest of my body is in proportion with my height, wouldn't you?" He smiled lightly, one side of his mouth crooking upwards. She needn't be so nervous - it wasn't like he was going to bite her head off or anything. He did have to wonder what she wanted with him though. It wasn't every day Kaine had random pretty girls come up to him and start discussing his height.
He also wondered if she was hungry. His stomach was still complaining at him and he would be awfully embarrassed if it decided to growl in this echoey dungeon corridor.

Indeed he was tall, but that was something Adeline was used to, granted she wasn’t used to anyone being nearly as tall as her father. Smiling shyly so looked past him a little, but she was listening. “No you are not lanky. I’d call you well built.” Her cheeks lit on fire, and it felt as if they matched her hair. Pushing the curls behind her ear, she let out a small laugh. “Sorry, I… I’m really nervous.” She straightened out her skirt, looking at his shoes then slowly, her eyes started the climb back to his face.
The fact he was Slytherin didn’t throw her off, but the sincerity was what got her a little off center. He had a nice smile, a very nice smile, but maybe that was her heart getting ahead of her head. When it came to that question she froze up, it wasn’t like her. She could work fine with a partner, she could talk to a Slytherin with ease, but when it came to asking someone to the Valentine’s Day Ball, she couldn’t even get the words out of her mouth. Looking around the halls, there were people everywhere, she wasn’t used to this.
“Can we go somewhere else? I’m not too comfortable around so many people who hate me. Who knows when Carrow is going to show up, it’s really only a matter of time.” She was just talking to get away from here. There were eyes boring into her, and she was not a fan of the Lestrange boy either. “Please, let us go somewhere neutral. Great Hall? Owlry? Anywhere really.” The heel of her shoe clicked on the stone floor as she took a step closer to him, “I really do need to ask you something, but I’d rather not be mocked by your peers, not to mention it’s not really comforting down here being a Gryffin’dork’ and all.” She regretted that, she hated being considered a Gryffindor, and would of much rather be put into Ravenclaw where her twin was, but then again, he was the genius in the family. Off doing studies overseas doing medical research, he said that the wizarding world bored him and he needed something a little more challenging. {Word Count} 387 {comment} Not a Problem! "Well built...I like that." He smiled again, hoping to ease her nerves a little bit. He knew it must've taken some guts for her to come down here by herself to talk specifically to a Slytherin. Sure enough, she was indeed getting some looks from passers-by, as was he, but Kaine could deal with those quite easily. Being in the top half of the school age-wise definitely helped, as did his height. People tended to be intimidated by taller people it seemed.
Kaine shrugged nonchalantly when she asked if they could go elsewhere. "Sure thing," he replied. "I'm not up to anything right now. My stomach is growling at me a little, seeing as I haven't fed it, but we can grab something along the way if you don't mind?"
He'd leant against the wall whilst she was talking, hands in his pockets casually and that sheer laid-back attitude oozing off of him. It was that aura of complete calm that sometimes annoyed his peers and professors; people seemed to think he wasn't bothered about things. It wasn't that at all; he'd just learnt now to not get stressed out and let things progress as they would. Make life easier.
Straightening up, he took one hand out of a pocket to push his hair out of his eyes. He needed a haircut sometime soon - it was getting to the irritating stage. He then quickly realised that he was wandering off into his own little daydream again...another thing that got him in trouble with the professors. He couldn't help it....he got distracted easily.
"We may as well wander around the grounds or something," he suggested, the small smile playing around his lips again. "I can nip into the Hall and grab something edible, then we can walk to our hearts content. Not many people will be out there; they'll be too busy eating."
Kaine hoped she agreed. He really did admire her courage at coming down here just to find him, and was also rather pleased that she had. Gave him a nice warm feeling...a pretty girl had come looking for him. It felt good, and he was going to enjoy it while it lasted. It must be something pretty important she wanted to discuss though. He wondered what it could be.

Adeline didn’t know how much she could take of her cheeks being on fire, but for some reason she was rather okay with that. Watching him was interesting to say the least, and he was a very smooth individual. “Well, you need to eat, it’s not a good thing to not eat, especially before lessons, your brain needs food too, and if you can’t focus on learning, you’re not going to get exceptionally good marks….” She caught herself rambling. “Um…yes let’s get your something to eat.” Her father always told her to eat a good breakfast in the very least, every day, she supposed he rubbed off on her a little. Smiling as he leaned against the wall, she got a little bit giddy, and she caught herself staring, it was rude, but he was handsome, a lot more handsome than those boys in Gryffindor.
He ran his hand through his hair, and that made her swoon even more. How the hell did men do that? It was as if they didn’t realize what they were doing, and that even made it more attractive. Holding her hands in front of her she smiled at him, and it wasn’t a lazy half smile, it was the full on, with teeth and eyes closed smile. He was very warm, not in the sense of touch, but he seemed more welcoming than others and Addie was glad for that. She didn’t know what she would do if he was heartless, knowing herself, she would of ran off by now crying, but it wasn’t like that and she was thankful.
“Sure, that sounds great, maybe the fresh air will clear my mind, and hopefully calm me down, and you need to eat, it’s not good for you to starve yourself. Come on.” She took another step toward him and smiled widely. Reaching out she grabbed his hand. “No more hanging around here until you get something in your stomach. It has been proven that individuals do not think like themselves without proper nutrients, and for what I want to ask you, I really do want you to think like yourself.” She rocked on the balls of her feet, until she realized she was touching him. Letting go in a flash she lifted her hands up. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean….no..I…” The red from her cheeks which left when they were talking about food returned full force, and even redder than before. She could feel her ears burning hot and she looked up at him. “I really am sorry, I didn’t expect…I was….” {word count} 430 {comments} SQUUEEEE I M SO EXCITED!

Kaine had started slightly when she'd grabbed his hand, but he hid it well. He was actually a little disappointed when she let go, but it did amuse him ever so slightly to see her blush like that. It was quite cute really. As much as he liked watching people squirm (there was the Slytherin in him right there coming out), he didn't like it when it was someone he liked or got along with. In Addie's case though, it was just ever so slightly cute.
He took hold of her hand again, winking with that small cheeky smile as he did so. "To be fair, you'll probably be a bit safer walking through these dungeons with me as an accessory," he told her. "People tend to stay out of my way down here. Being tall has its advantages you know."
He started leading her back the way she had previously come, his hand lightly holding hers as they went. "I missed breakfast today," he admitted. "Overslept this morning...by quite a ridiculous amount of time, so didn't have time before first lessons. Then lunch kinda....got missed." He shrugged, glancing at her as they walked along. Sure, they were getting a few weird looks, but Kaine either ignored them or stared them down. Everyone in Slytherin knew not to annoy Kaine, or even try and start a quarrel. Not only would they have the six foot plus rather grumpy Kaine - they'd also have his best friend and partner in crime Colle to deal with too. No one wanted to get on the wrong side of that pair when they were in a bad mood.
He wondered how she was feeling, being led down a dungeon corridor by the Slytherin boy she had actually come to find. He was still puzzling over what it was she wanted to ask him. The Valentines Ball was coming up...maybe it was something to do with that. Did she really have the guts to ask a Slytherin boy, in the heart of Slytherin House, to the Ball?
Kaine figured she did. She had come all the way down here after all; nothing would surprise him now.

Quickly her hand was snatched back up, and fire could be felt from her fingertips all the way up her arm, but she didn't fight it, there was no need. Looking up at him, she could feel her heart beat heavily in her chest, and she returned the smile ever so sweetly. Adeline has always been into the mysterious bad boy type, and this would explain why she never had a boyfriend. She knew that her father would frown upon her going with anyone other than a Ravenclaw, or at least that was what she had thought. Standing next to him, the top of her head came to about his chin, and she was in heels, that was a hell of a difference, but she was okay with that. It didn't make her feel inferior, it actually made her feel safe.
'Why in all hell am I feeling this way,' she thought to herself, but then he described himself as an accessory and she didn't see him like that. Adeline shook her head and looked up at him. "You are by far an accessory, you are not just an object that I want around, you are more than that," she didn't regret what she said, but she also had no idea why she said it. Yes, it brought the tint back to her cheeks, but maybe it was a good look for her. It's not everyday she gets embarrassed about talking to a gentleman about said gentleman. He was tall, but that was not a bad thing, he had dark hair which was amazing in her book, and she was not a fan of blonde boys, also, he had intelligence, they had a class together and she always caught herself drifting into his voice since he was almost never wrong, and was she wrong to like that?
Her mind was moving quickly, and the touch of his skin was warm against hers and not to mention smooth, his fingers were very lean, but they were strong and it was relaxing. Looking down at their hands, she felt almost to comfortable like this, but her heart seemed to be stuck in her throat. "I wouldn't know about being tall, but that's why I wear high heels, I like to pretend that I am taller," she laughed quietly. She tightened her grip on his hand a little, so that he knew she wasn't afraid of him or even embarrassed about it, but it wasn't a death grip, it was a comfortable grip and she liked it.
The pair began to walk and she kept pace with him, and let him lead the way, she knew he was leading her in the right direction, even if she was a little dazed at the fact she was actually holding his hand. "You should always make it a point to eat breakfast, lunch can be passed, but as long as you snack in between it's really not as important." Adeline had no idea why she was so bent on him not eating. Maybe it was because she adored him, and wanted him to be at his best, both physically and intellectually, she loved intelligent people and he was definitely one of the few. "Oversleeping isn't so bad, I do it on the occasion, but only when it is a lesson I can afford to miss. I would just owl my brother and ask him about the subject, he usually returns my letters with an essay of some sort."
As they continued to walk she looked up at him. "I really don't want to be a bother to you, but I am so far enjoying this, I've never had a...boyfriend...I suppose, people were so terrified to get in between me and my brother I guess." She thought out loud and as usual she didn't watch what she said. She was curious about Kaine and that was putting it lightly. It's not like she was seeking out a Slytherin boy for the attention, no she had her eye on him for quite sometime, and was surprised that he hasn't actually picked someone up. "It's these moments I wish I was sorted into Ravenclaw, it wouldn't look so awkward, but it feels good to defy the rivalries, not to mention this." She wiggled her fingers and smiled up at him.
The trip through the dungeons seemed to go smoothly, and as they were strolling up toward the Great Hall, since she would not let him leave her sight until he ate, she smiled. It wasn't a normal smile either, it was a smile of great happiness, something she had never really experienced, unless she was at home around her father, and that was a rare occasion. Her mind went back to the ball like wildfire, and she choked up again, there were still to many people around for her liking and she definitely would not do it in the Great Hall, because that would be in front of nearly her entire house and his, she would be more red than a beet, and she didn't know if she could handle that. The thought struck her, they were holding hands and would automatically be assumed as 'in relationship' when they walked through the oak doors. {word count} 897 (eeee sorry it's so much! As they grew closer to the Great Hall, Kaine felt himself smiling again. She really was a lovely lovely girl, and he felt pleased to be walking along hand-in-hand with her. Now they were out of the dungeons, they weren't receiving as many funny looks as before, and Kaine found himself feeling quite comfortable quite quickly.
"You sound like my mum," he joked, winking as he said it to show he meant it in an amusing way rather than an annoyed one. "I usually do have breakfast, but couldn't really miss first lesson. I want to get the best grades I can, so would rather miss out on some nibbles than miss a whole class. Guess you could say I'm something of a nerd." He gave a small chuckle as they entered the Great Hall.
It was pretty full already; students were scattered around everywhere on all four tables, and the chattering echoed around the huge room. Kaine headed over to the nearest end of the Slytherin table to grab something he could eat as they walked. Some of his fellow students glanced up as he walked over hand in hand with Addie, but he paid them no heed. Many of them were in the years below him anyway, and so were beneath his attention span. So long as Addie didn't feel uncomfortable, he was fine.
He had been smiling as she rambled on again. He liked the sound of her voice, and figured that she'd be one of very few people he didn't mind nattering on and on beside him. Kaine usually got annoyed with people who constantly talked, and then usually talked utter rubbish, but he put Addie's rambling down to her nerves, and found that it really didn't bother him all that much.
"Why would you want to be in Ravenclaw?" he asked, grabbing himself a bread roll, an apple and a bottle of some liquid. He didn't take any notice of what it was - if it was drinkable, he'd have it. "Isn't your brother in Ravenclaw? I tell you now, I think I'd prefer it if my sister was in a different House. Would be nice to have some space from her for once. Don't get me wrong; I love her to pieces, but she doesn't half get on my nerves sometimes." He paused and glanced at her. "Your brother quite protective of you then?" he asked. "I can understand that, having a sister of my own. I reckon she's the most looked-after sibling in this place. People learnt very quickly not to mess her around." That sounded a little bit threatening when he thought about it, but oh well. He was just looking out for his little sister; what was the harm in that?
Having aquired something edible, he turned and started leading Addie back out of the Hall. "Did you want to grab anything to eat?" he asked before they walked out. "Or is it just me with the noisy tummy?" Kaine gave her his slightly wonky grin again and shrugged a little. He definitely wanted to know what it was she wanted to ask him now, though he reckoned he had more or less figured it out. Would still be nice to hear though, and would certainly give his ego a boost. Not that it really needed it...but hey ho.

Adeline giggled as he mentioned his mother; a smile came to her face and looked up at him. “Well, mothers always know what is best, but in this case, you can thank my father for putting that into my head.” Squeezing his hand a little as he went on about being a nerd, and she was really happy that “I’d rather you be a nerd than anything else, marks are important and intelligence is even more vital, I don’t know what I would do if you weren’t smart. It’s one thing I look for, and sadly it is a rare find.”
Again eyes were upon the two of them, and she shied away a little bit, still holding his hand. She didn’t have much standing with Gryffindor house, and she didn’t know how she would handle them later this evening. Addie was more than certain that word has already circled the entire school, and there was no way she was going to be able to get out of or away from it now. After all here they were holding hands in the middle of the Great Hall, just one Gryffindor and one Slytherin.
As he grabbed some food she quickly grabbed a flier from off the table, and shoved it into the small pocket of her sweater, hoping it wasn’t noticeable. If she wouldn’t be able to say anything about it, she would hand him the flier and hope that it would be good enough. He asked about her wanting to be in Ravenclaw and she smiled. “Oliver is my twin, usually we’re inseparable, but he decided that Muggle Science was more interesting than Magic, so now he is studying in the United States. Not only that, but my entire family was sorted into Ravenclaw, my father and my mother, I just want to be able to follow in my father’s footsteps as closely as possible.” She loved listening to Kaine talk about his sister, she understood completely. “Actually, I’m more protective of my brother, I’m older than him by six minutes, and I will never let that go.” She laughed quietly, “but I think it’s sweet that you love her so much. Without that connection a family could possibly never work out. I wouldn’t dare mess with anyone’s younger sibling, I know the wrath people like us can bring down, and being on the receiving end of that could end in not being too pretty.”
The two of them ambled toward the large wooden doors of the Great Hall before he asked if she wanted something and she shook her head quietly. “Oh no, I’m too nervous to eat anything. I’d rather not make a bigger fool of myself.” Even saying that, she wasn’t comfortable eating in front of him yet, it was either the nerves or she wanted to seem dainty, but not only that she wasn’t really hungry and would probably grab something later. The click of her heels wasn’t really annoying, but she was worried about walking around outside, what if they were to walk across the grass? Then she realized it wasn’t that big of a bother, she would just take them off, even if her feet got dirty, they were cleanable not like her shoes.
They walked out of the Great Hall, and she grinned, looking up at the sky, it appeared the rain was going to hold out and it made her giddy. She loved being outside and the air cleared her head, she didn’t know if she was going to be able to ask, but she was going to try her hardest even if it came out in a bunch of mumble jumble. She pulled him along a little, even though she enjoyed being led around, but she loved being outside, it made thinking a lot easier. “Kaine,” She stopped on the stairs before they made it to the lawn and looked up at him from a step below, “I was wondering if you would…” She moved her hands as her voice got caught in her throat. “I was wondering…if you….would like…” stopping short again she squeezed his hand for her own comfort and looked up at him, “tobemydatetothevalentinesball.”

Yesyesyesyesyes....
Kaine instantly found himself smiling, and he unconsciously squeezed her hand a little tighter. Pulling her gently along again, he carried on walking down the steps and into the grounds proper. It was completely quiet out here; everyone else was inside and out of their way.
"I'd love to," he answered simply, turning his head towards her to smile. "Now I understand why you were so nervous when you came to find me. Takes a lot of guts y'know, going down into those dungeons when you're not a Slythie yourself. I've seen other wanderers come off a lot worse than you."
They were heading down a small path, leading away from the school and down towards the Forest. It felt nice, walking along hand-in-hand with a pretty girl. It was not something Kaine was used to; the girls he usually hung out with were often only after one thing, and most of them were too rough around the edges (as well as in the middle) for Kaine to even consider going anywhere near. Good as mates, but that's as far as it went.
He briefly thought about what his best friend Colle would say if he could see Kaine now. Colle was Pureblood, and a bit of a meanie, if truth be told. But he and Kaine were almost like brothers, and Kaine figured that Colle would (eventually) be pretty understanding about Addie. He'd have to be...Kaine would just get annoyed otherwise. At least he now had a date for the Ball....Colle was probably going alone.
He had more or less completely forgotten their earlier conversation about siblings. The situation was now far more interesting, and he wanted to focus more on Adeline herself then their families. That could come later.
He dug the roll out from his pocket and nibbled at it, his other hand still wrapped around Addie's. It didn't take him long to finish it, then he moved onto the apple. The bottle was shoved in another pocket somewhere; he'd find it in a bit. The apple was lovely and juicy, and crunched nicely as he munched on it. Eating also gave him time to think about what to say; Kaine could quite easily be all mouth and was quicker than most at coming up with retorts and come-backs. But when it came to serious moments such as this one, he often found his brain turned to nothing but mush and he ended up looking a tad silly. That was one thing he certainly didn't want to do in front of Addie.
Kaine and Addie... It certainly had a bit of a ring to it. Kaine knew she would be worrying more about what other people thought than he was; he'd have to find ways to reassure her on that count. At the end of the day, it didn't matter what other people thought or said; their opinions weren't the ones that mattered. As far as Kaine was concerned, as long as the people directly involved were happy, then nothing else mattered.

It was all out in complete gibberish, but she knew that he understood, her senses were on high alert and she could feel everything. Waiting for the answer he pulled her along making it seem like forever until he turned toward her and smiled, he had a very nice smile. Then the answer came. ”I’d love to.” Her heart was hammered with joy and she loved every second of it. Listening to him was getting difficult, with the pounding in her ears. She didn’t know how to express joy to him, holding hands was more than enough at this moment, but what she wanted to do was more than what she could manage to do, with her nerves. “I’m really excited, just so you know, I will be wearing blue, not that it matters.” Blue was her favorite color, it was the color of her family, and frankly, she didn’t think that she looked good in anything else. It matched her hair and eyes perfectly and she wouldn’t settle for anything less. Not only that, but it was a calming color for her and it was the best color in the world.
“The only person at this moment that I fear down there is Carrow. I don’t think I could go within a ten foot radius of her without getting hexed, but I came specifically for you, I wasn’t going to try anything stupid.” She caught herself rambling, and realized that he had gone quiet, so she turned to him as he bit into the apple and smiled up at him. It was rather peaceful, a great end to a day full of nervousness and uneasiness, but here the two of them were, outside together and she was watching him eat with a peak of curiosity. So maybe she was hungry, but that wouldn’t bother her, not now at least, though the apple did look fantastic.
Adeline began to wonder about other things, how brilliant he was, how amazingly good looking he was, how decent he was (which her father would hopefully approve of), how sincere he seemed (granted she only just walked up to him and began talked to him, but it turned out to be them holding hands). Something had dawned on her. “You’re not going to try anything at the dance are you? Stand me up? Try to take me back with you? Pull some nasty Marauder type prank on me?” She was innocent when it came to men, all she could do was hope and she liked to be well prepared and presented. “I just want to have a decent evening for once. I’ve never had a date any of the previous years, no one had the courage to ask me, and I just hope you’re not like everyone else. It seems all the relationships around the school are bumpy and full of angst, I don’t want that.” That thought stuck her like a bug, were they in a relationship now? Would they be able to see each other more often? Addie more than liked the idea, from what she knew of Kaine just from observation (of the non-creepy type) he was a good guy, and now that she was actually on speaking terms with him. He seemed much more than a good guy, he was a great guy, pretty much what she was asking for.

Kaine chuckled a little - he couldn't help himself. Launching his apple core across the field, he wiped his hand on his trousers and turned to her, taking her other hand in his free one. "I solemnly swear I'll be as good as gold," he promised, winking as he said so. The play on words...he just couldn't help himself.
He wondered if he was being too forward, holding both her hands and moving in ever so slightly closer so that they were standing almost touching. A quick glance down told him that her heart was beating quite frantically; he could see the pulse in her neck. She felt small, delicate...he slid one arm around her waist to pull her in against him, his other hand coming up to brush away a stray lock of hair that had fallen across her cheek. The wind was starting to pick up a little, and as Kaine was only in a shirt, he felt it a bit more. Perfect excuse to pull Addie in for a cuddle then really.
This is too easy!
He frowned as Colle's voice reverberated around his head. He knew exactly what Colle would think, but he really didn't give a damn. Sure, they were best friends and were the only people who could actually put up with each other on their bad days, but that didn't mean Colle dictated Kaine's life. Ok, so a Slytherin and a Gryffindor going on a date was unusual and seen to be 'against the rules'. But since when did Kaine give a damn about rules??
"Stop me if I'm going too fast," he whispered in her ear, bringing his head down a little in order to do so. There were definitely some disadvantages to being so tall sometimes. And she was in high heels! Kaine let a small grin creep onto his face at the mental image of Addie's heels sinking into the soft grass they were stood on.
"Y'know," he murmured, moving the hand that had brushed away her hair down to loop about her waist. "I've never had a proper date for this Ball either. It's always been a bit pretend. Will be nice to go with someone who actually wants to go with me." He then rpessed the lightest of kisses to her cheek, nothing too forceful or meaningful; just a light peck of his lips against her skin. It was a start anyway.

He winked, and her cheeks were alight once more and she laughed at his witty comment. Something else happened, he was holding her hands, and with a small movement he was now holding her around the waist. The two of them were close and she was staring straight up at him, the wind was whipping the hem of her skirt around, and she was thankful that her front was to him. Words weren’t forming properly in her mind and she just stared at him, brilliant blue into his dark brown eyes. Addie never felt like this, she was more worried about her studies to be bothered with a gentleman, or even take notice to them. Maybe she had been asked to the dance many times before, but she never really heard it, or she just blew them off, forgetting. No she wouldn’t forget this there was no way she would ever be able to forget this.
Her heart was screaming to be let out against her chest, but she didn’t know if she should let it. She hated to be made out as a fool, and she didn’t want to seem like a fawning teenager over a steamboat celebrity. The only issue is that this is exactly as it was, but the only difference was she was head over heels for Kaine and she was just now realizing it to its full extent. She watched his face turn to a frown and it made her worry for a brief moment until he whispered into her ear. She didn’t realize but Adeline had closed her eyes and didn’t notice that he was leaning in. His voice had rung through hear ears and she wanted to hold onto it forever, but words wouldn’t form, there was nothing she could say without the risk of verbal vomit. Instead she shook her head no, she had no idea, she didn’t know what to fast was, she didn’t even know what to expect. It felt like a scene out of a muggle movie running through her head.
Kaine’s hand came up to push some hair from her face, and it startled her a bit. Eyes snapping open to look up at him, as the same hand found its place around her. For once in her life she was speechless. A smile toyed with her lips as he spoke about the upcoming dance, she wanted to gush about it girlfriends, to find out who they were going with, what they were wearing, but unfortunately Adeline didn’t have many (if any) friends. She had her brother and he didn’t give two hoots about dances, he was far too unemotional to even tamper with those things. She could gush to her mom, but that would pose a question. ’Who was she going with?’ Adeline wasn’t certain her mother would approve, but she hoped her father would in the least; his opinion was the only one that really mattered.
Something brushed her cheek that sent chills down her back, it was the softest thing ever, but his lips were cool against the heat radiating off of her face. That was it, she wasn’t sure she could feel her legs anymore, leaning against him and she smiled quietly, so this was what it was like. “Thank you.” Her hands were still in front of her, but she couldn’t help the wavering feeling in her heart. She wasn’t nervous, no not anymore, another feeling came up a sort of shyness, she was comfortable with his arms around her, and finally was get the sense of relaxation.
Pulling her hands up to her chest she looked up at him without a word, and then back down at what was going on. Adeline wasn’t a good judge of character, but she felt this was right, this is what she wanted all along, but was it truly right? If they did happen to end up going steady…would they last? Another thought stripped through her mind, he was a Slytherin, was he a supporter of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named, if he was, what would happen? She was striving her entire life to become a great Auror for the ministry, to follow in her father’s footsteps. She wouldn’t let anyone get in the way of her future, even if that someone was the person she had the biggest crush on since the first time she saw him. That thought echoed through her head, and fear streaked through her.
Leaning forward she found that she was resting her head on his shoulder without realizing it. Why was this happening? This was all so automatic and she couldn’t stop, because this is what she wanted. Deep down she knew she wanted him, but did he have the same eyes for her? Did he feel the same way? There was no muggle science that could prove this. If things did work out and the two of them ended up together, would his parents approve? She tried with all her might to push these thoughts out of her head, those things could wait, they weren’t together, not at this moment at least. All she had to worry about was the dance and the two of them would find out if it was meant to be.
“Thank you so much.” Her voice was barely a whisper, but she knew he heard her, even if she was talking into his chest, she had no idea what she was doing, but right now she felt sky high, even if he was a Slytherin, who cared about unwritten school rules, it’s not like the rivalries were written in blood and posted on a piece of parchment. She considered herself a Ravenclaw anyway, even if it wasn’t the colors she was meant to support. Hopefully, in the future, he was in it. She would be happy if it was true, if love at first sight existed.

Her head fit perfectly against her shoulder, her body moulding against his as though it were made to fit. She felt so comfortable in his arms, like a jigsaw piece that had found its proper place. Kaine had never thought he would ever think like this, or feel the way he was feeling right now. He was a Slytherin; supposedly cold-hearted, selfish and manipulative. But he couldn't be any of these things...not around Addie anyways. Sure, he could quite easily be your worst enemy if you pressed the wrong buttons, but it took a lot to wind Kaine up. He was so laid back, he was basically horizontal.
"What are you thanking me for?" he asked, pulling her in close and caressing one hand across her back. The other stayed on her hip, holding her close and safe. The wind was definitely picking up now, whipping his hair across his face and eyes. He paid it no heed; he was far too busy right now. It actually felt like it might start raining soon after all...that would certainly make this night interesting. They had walked quite far from the school now and there was no shelter around. Kaine himself didn't mind getting soggy; he just didn't know if Addie was at all bothered by rain.
"I have to say though," he carried on before she had answered, pulling back slightly and looking down into her face. "This is going to cause some problems, isn't it? I mean...a Slytherin and a Gryffindor? Personally...doesn't bother me in the slightest. I think House rivalries are utterly ridiculous and that the colour of your badge shouldn't reflect who you can and can't be friends with. But other people obviously think differently, including families." He raised an eyebrow, hinting of course at her stupidly intelligent Ravenclaw sibling. "I'm guessing there's going to be some members of your family who won't approve of me...a bad boy Slytherin." He winked again, that little smile creeping back onto his face. He just couldn't help himself.
Kaine knew that he was quite likely to get hassle at his end as well. Not only would he have Colle on his back, but his family wouldn't be exactly thrilled that he was seeing a Gryffindor girl. They were pretty laid-back, as Slytherin families went, but they still liked their Purebloods and keeping everything within the Slytherin name, under the Slytherin banner....
He sighed inwardly. Bloody friends and families and their bloody awkwardness. If it was up to Kaine, he'd ignore the lot of them, do whatever he liked and to hell with the consequences. Though....if he did live like that, he'd probably be dead by now, alongside Colle. They'd get up to so many antics and get into so much trouble that one day it would definitely go wrong. In a very bad way.
His hand came up to rest against her cheek as the first few raindrops started coming down. "It doesn't bother me," he repeated, fingers running through her hair. It was soft and long...just the way Kaine liked it. Suited her down to the ground, and he knew that it was something he just could not resist. "Does it bother you? What other people think?"
The rain started getting heavier, but Kaine ignored it. This conversation was too deep and serious to have where other people could overhear. He'd rather stand outside in the rain with a pretty girl and make sure she was ok, than run inside to get dry and miss this opportunity.

Looking up at him she smiled. ”I’m thanking you for not being stereotypical.” It was true, he was nothing like the other people at the school, or so it seemed. The humidity in the air was making her hair curl up even more than it was, something she hated ever since she was little. He went on about the Slytherin/Gryffindor thing and she shook her head.
“I’m not bothered by that, I don’t have many friends to begin with, only acquaintances most of which are students that I tutor on the weekends.” It was nice out here, but the clouds were looking angry she had nothing against the rain she only hoped that she wouldn’t fall ill because of it. “My brother will be fine with it, he doesn’t really understand the concept of relationships.” That much was true, Oliver could care less about what Adeline did with her love life, he wasn’t interested in it and she was alright with that. The one person she wanted to be supportive of this decision was her father, he was the center of her world, and he was the one person she idolized beyond anyone.
Rain began to fall steadily, but she was warm where she was, and Addie didn’t want to move for the world. They could stand her for hours and she would be okay with that. She was comfortable, closing her eyes; she stayed where she was and just let the rain fall heavily on the two of them. “There is only one person that matters that much to me in any case, he is the one that scolds me about my marks, and is always there to listen when I’m having a horrible day.” Looking up at Kaine she swallowed hard with a smile. “My father Roderick. He is the only one I want approval from,” she didn’t lie about it, her mother would agree with her father no matter what, but he was the most difficult person to gain trust from. If she lost his trust, she had no idea what she would do.
Her hair was going flat now because of the rain, but Adeline had no care in the world for the weather outside. She was completely one hundred percent happy with what she had here. The earth below their feet was getting muddy and she panicked. Breaking the moment of tenderness she snapped. “Oh crap.” Stooping low, she kicked her shoes off so that they wouldn’t get lathered with mud, her feet were easy to clean, but her shoes, even with magic, would be ruined.
All of this felt like a movie, one of those romantic muggle dramas and the two of them were the stars. Not that she watched these shows, she has read of them. Her father paid close attention to the muggle world so that he would be able to spot anything out of ordinary. “I’m sorry…My dad bought these for my birthday, I don’t want them to get ruined.” She held up her shoes, but realized his face was now miles away. He would be perfect. {word count} 556 {comments} o.O;
