Kaine had to chuckle as she quickly removed her shoes and stood there with them in her hand. Her comments about her father had struck a chord with him, but he pushed it away and focussed on the here and now. No point dwelling on stupid things like his father right now.
"Your feet will get soaked though," he pointed out, squinting against the rain as it fell heavier and heavier. "Maybe we should go in? I don't want you getting ill. You're my date for the Ball!" He winked and stepped back closer to her again, wrapping one arm around her shoulders and pushing his hair out of his face with the other hand. The water made it stick back against his head, and he knew he looked ridiculous when it did that, but nothing could be done about it at the moment.
Surely there was a spell that would have kept them dry....Kaine's mind was too much mush to remember it though.
Addie talking about her father had made him think about his own father/son relationship....and how it was basically non-existent. Byron was completely different to his son, and Kaine had tried throughout his life to never turn out like his father. Maybe that was why Kaine was such a 'soft' Slytherin; because he had fought for so long against that stereotype that his father encompassed. If people ever made a comment regarding the fact that Kaine was ever like his father in front of, or to Kaine himself...well, they normally didn't stay conscious for very long.
He didn't feel like he was missing out on anything; he had other role models to follow. He just wished things were easier at home so in turn life would be easier for his long-suffering mother. Kaine wasn't really sure how his father would react to him dating a Gryffindor...he either wouldn't give a damn at all, and would continue ignoring Kaine as usual, or he'd hit the roof and the argument to end all arguments would happen. Kaine was hoping for the former.
He looked down at Addie snuggled up under his arm and smiled again. Whatever happened, it didn't matter. It's not like he ever cared what his father had said or thought anyway. He was going to the Ball with Addie, and from then onwards....who knew?
