if the clouds are just too high I F I T O S S A N D T U R N A N D F A L L B Y T H E W A Y S I D E , J U S T F O L L O W T H E S T A R S • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • I T was a love potion? He really wouldn’t, right? He was shooting people with arrows after all. If he had used a love potion in the drink he wouldn’t need the arrows. But either way she sent a look of suspicion at the cup she was holding before shrugging. Honestly, who would be on the receiving end of it anyway? Only Sirius and play boy or not he wouldn’t let her do anything too bad. He was still her friend after all. Lena sent him a mock annoyed look before smiling. “You should be careful what you say, Sirius. You never know what might happen.” Then with another shrug she focused on the rest of what he’d said and bumped her hip against his gently considering they were still leaning together. “If asking it the only payment you need, I might have to put some serious thought into if I’m willing to pay such a high price.”
She didn’t know he actually wasn’t kidding, having thought he’d gotten over her long ago and that was why they were able to be friends again. She still felt for him, but things were just extremely complicated between them and there was no telling when that would be fixed. Maybe never, considering their track record of never talking about problems until things become too late and they all blow up. That was how their huge fight happened in the first place. Loss of communication. Oh well. In all honesty, she just knew she didn’t ever want to go that long without him as a friend or even just him there to talk to ever again.
The smirk that lit her face was definitely something she learned from him as she quirked an eyebrow as well. “Good. I quite love it as well and I would just hate it if my date didn’t appreciate what I picked out.” Not that the dress had been chosen for him and he knew that. Flirting with Sirius was just too fun and easy to do when she was relaxing and not worrying about what was between them. After everything that happened, their huge fight, her almost getting raped, their reconciliation, everything had been a bit weird. And there was no telling where they stood but Lena was just trying to go with the flow for once.
The snippy comment made her pause and blink at him for a moment, frowning slightly. That had been a bit uncalled for, even if he thought it was funny. Maybe he didn’t realize how rude it had sounded? Trying to keep things ok between them Lena decided to just let it go and act like it hadn’t bothered her so gave a slight shrug as she allowed him to drag her to the dance floor. “You asked me because you wanted to. And if no one had actually asked me, then I wouldn’t have come. Like last year.” Once on the dance floor she slid her arms up to lay her hands on his shoulders, looking around at the other people who were dancing along with them. She occasionally stopped to look over at the people he shot with the arrows but didn’t give them much notice after that. It was not her night for nagging and as long as one of them didn’t hit her she didn’t much care. Her body continued to sway to the beat of the music as they danced, not pressed up against him, but still touching slightly.

There was absolutely no way that Ezekiel was ready for the Valentines ball. He was very sure that he would be the only one there without a date, all he had seen all week were awkward ‘private’ conversations at the side of the halls, couples walking hand in hand, girls talking in hushed excited tones to their close friends and the loud bragging of some of the guys was particularly hard to miss. He’d begun visiting the Library, choosing solitude instead of the unending babble he’d be subjected to every evening coming up to this day. He hardly missed a meal though; a House Elf had become rather fond of him after he engaged the creature in conversation one afternoon, she was all too happy to grab him whatever he wanted. Not once had he asked more than he wanted, Ezekiel’s not one to take advantage of any situation, his parents taught him better than that, he’s the appreciative kind.
He made his way down to the hall a little later than he’d originally planned, contacts replacing the glasses he so often wears. He has absolutely no idea on what to wear, there was no way that he was wearing a suit and there’s little other clothing that he really thinks is .. well, Ball wear. Not that he’s an expert on such things. In the end he came to the conclusion that he’d wear a simple shirt and tie with jeans. Casual smart is the way to go if you’ve got nobody to impress.
Catching sight of Sirius was pretty much the first thing that happened when he reached the hall, a wide smile upon his lips before he can even think of hiding it. This Ravenclaw may be a bit of a recluse but he recognises his fellow students and he’s all too aware of who Sirius is within the social standing of the school. Zeke would love the confidence and the charisma that could allow the Marauder to wear that outfit and somehow pull it off flawlessly. As for the arrows, he’d be doing his utmost best to avoid those, even if he has to resort to using his wand to send them careening away. He’s not so sure he trusts whatever spell may be cast upon them.
Everybody seemed to be coupled up into friendship pairings or dates. The Slytherin’s, Zeke noted with a roll of his eyes, seemed to already be attempting to depress the atmosphere into something they’d find easier to interact within. It’s like they can’t thrive unless there’s a cloud of angst or evil hanging over their heads.
For now Zeke decided to hang back, helping himself to a drink whilst the others mingled among themselves. He’d approach somebody eventually, but these things take time. For the moment he’s quite happy to sip his drink, watch and listen to the chatter happening around him.
Words)) 488 Notes)) um.. it’s a rubbish post, mybad, but I had no clue how to introduce him into this thread >.>

Locked with the candy table Ashlin was hardly aware of her surroundings, there were to many people for her to care about and she didn't care about anything but candy. Slytherins? No problem. Gryffindors? They were just people. Hufflepuff? Her house and her favorite house, she loves badgers and she loves the color yellow. Ravenclaw? They were smart and usually helped her with her homework. Ashlin didn't care what house you were in, as long as you were nice to her then there wouldn't be any issue with anything. It's when she gets grumpy, that is when you need to watch out. Many say she has some muggle disease that was passed down from her mother, but they know otherwise, it was just the way that she was.
Picking out all the sweet flavors, avoiding chocolate since it would melt to the bottom of her bag, she smiled and saw a blonde boy step to the table next to her. Ashlin had seen him before in one of her classes though she wasn't one hundred percent sure which one. She was to spacey to even care about it, her desk usually riddled with wrappers, and her wand lost in existence. He walked away and she slowly dodged his vision, crouching low beneath a table, she began stalking him, purse heavy with the evenings candy haul. "Pssst." She said and looked at the blonde boy, his hair nearly matched hers and she waved at him, trying to get attention from the other side of the table. He couldn't hear her, she knew this, the music was much to loud.
"HEY!" Jumping out from behind the table in front of him. She didn't know if he drank or not, so she stared up at him from her tiny five foot stature. Grabbing his wrist she looked at the cup in his hand then back to him. "I, Sir, I be ashamed in you!" She really was. Anyone who digested alcohol in her book wasn't a very smart person and she frowned upon it heavily. "I am goin' ta take this," she grabbed the punch cup, "as if you were offerin' me something ta drink, 'cause we've been dancing to much. Then I am goin' ta look at ya," She turned square to him and narrowed her eyes as if she was looking at him with an angry face, which in turn was a rather amusing face since she couldn't hold back a smile, "and say tha' ya shouldn' be drinkin' alcohol infested punch drinks." Setting the cup down on the floor she put her hands on her hips and looked at the boy before her. Ashlin didn't even know his name. "Ya shouldn' be drinkin' alcohol infested punch drinks." With a nod her curly blonde pigtails bounced.
"Me name is Ashlin O'Mara, you are now me date to tha dance, anyone who be sayin' otherwise is a twit and I will not be standin' fer tha'. You will dance with me, if ya do not know how ta dance I will be teachin' ya I am very good at dancin'. I am a Hufflepuff, I love candy an I suck at e'er subject 'cept fer Charms. Tha be me best subject." Again she nodded. Crouching low she picked up the cup and put it in to a trash bin. "What's yer name o' blonde one?!"

Space. So many people though that was all that was between her ears. Space. Spiders. Cobwebs. Some thought it was all just pure evil and malice in a solid form. The later was probably more accurate. But at that second it was space. She hadn't felt the need to actually pay any attention to the rest of their little encounter. Simply let it go in one ear then out the other. But she did put on a suitable face and a cold stare. When the small blonde brushed passed however Integra's eyes flared with fury. That....thing... what ever kind of creature it was... maddened her. A chill ran down her spin as she drew in her breath and tried to even herself out.
The poor Hufflepuff girl Rabastan had been torturing seemed more confused than anything. With a simple bat of her lashes as Annelise excused herself, Integra leaned in and whispered sinisterly to her, "Run.... Run back to your precious Remus. Unless... He's got another girl on his arm?" Her icy finger ran over the girls cheek. "Oh.. And take a message back for me will you darling? Tell your little friends.... to... Have fun tonight." There was something villainous in the way she bid them a good evening.
With a bit of a cackle she straightened and took up Rabastan's arm again. "Come Rab darling... Lets have a dance before the night gets too weary to fight on?" She smiled at him and smoothed her hair and her dress. "Don't you dare forget what we're here for tonight Lestrange." She looked at the passersby coolly. Tonight was going to be the time of their lives.

Sirius felt the corner of his mouth upturn into a grin. It looked as if she might actually believe that there was love potion in her drink. Was she really so gullible? Honestly, he never really tried to trick her before, so he wasn't sure. It was a funny thing in his mind that he had never tried to trick Lena, as Sirius usually tried to trick anyone and everyone. He supposed that there was something about her that made Sirius believe that she would see through anything he tried - mainly because she usually saw through him with everything else.
"High price?" Sirius repeated after her. "Right, I guess your pride is too big to ask. I should have known."
He smiled down at her, and without really thinking, cupped her face in his hands and kissed her deeply. Not until his lips were firmly pressed against hers did he realize that he had never actually kissed her like this before. Sure, they have kissed before, but usually just light pecks. It admittedly gave him a warm feeling to do such a thing, although he felt somewhat guilty at the same time, and he wasn't sure why. He pulled away from her and said, "Maybe you just need motivation to ask?"
Not that he would ever admit it to anyone, Sirius actually felt somewhat flustered about what he had just done. Was it the wrong thing to do? They had just had a fight, quite recently in fact. But he didn't like being on bad terms with her. Really, it didn't feel right. It was almost like he couldn't stay away from Lena, no matter how hard he tried. He knew he didn't want a relationship - he didn't want to be tied down, but at the same time, he couldn't ignore the fact that since he admitted to himself his feelings for Lena, he hadn't been with any other girl. He even wondered if other people assumed that they were a couple. Honestly, he would rather fight and bicker with Lena than not speak with her at all.
Sirius knew the dress wasn't chosen for him, and he wasn't really bothered. He figured that if she was dressing for him, she would have chosen something red. He knew that she knew that red was his favourite colour on her. It was a passionate colour, and he just liked seeing it on her. It was funny to see Lena's changes from when he first began speaking with her. She used to be so quiet and studious and since had changed to someone in which almost everyone recognized. He hoped that by now she knew how good-looking she was, and that he wouldn't have to continue to try to persuade her like he once had to.
Sirius smiled at Lena as they were dancing and admitted, "You're right. I did want to invite you."
Sirius didn't even realize that she was the one he wanted to invite to everything. He didn't realize that she was the one who was always there, and she was the one who had never given up on him, really. It was all of these things that really made Sirius stupid, no matter what kind of grades he got. He wanted to be the ladies' man, he wanted to be the prankster... he wanted to be the one with no emotion and no attachments. The attachment to Lena had been so gradual that he hadn't even seen it coming, and in his mind, he had himself convinced that she was just a friend to him. A friend he liked to kiss and touch, granted, but a friend all the same.
((I guess Sirius is in a sappy mood? haha, must be because I'm sick.))

if the clouds are just too high I F I T O S S A N D T U R N A N D F A L L B Y T H E W A Y S I D E , J U S T F O L L O W T H E S T A R S • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • || • W HEN it came to potions being in drinks people handed her, she normally wasn’t that skeptic as normal people wouldn’t do that. But the marauders weren’t normal by any means. So it wasn’t that surprising that when Sirius handed her a drink and then told her something was in it, it was smart to be a bit cautious. But with everything she knew, he wouldn’t do something that bad to her and a love potion would be bad. So she just shrugged and winked at him. “If you wanted me, you wouldn’t have to use a love potion, so I know you’re lying about it.”
Her lips twitched in amusement again. “My pride? Isn’t yours much larger than mine, Sir Cupid?” Her eyebrow raised at him, not being serious, though it was generally understood that he had a lot of pride in who he was. And there wasn’t anything wrong with that. Lena liked him as he was. She had always said that. A lot of girls wanted to be with him to see if they could change him, which she just didn’t understand that logic. If you like him as he was and wanted to be with him then, why change him? Then again the logic of most of the people in the school was seriously lacking at times and she occasionally just wanted to hit them with books to see if learning would work through osmosis.
They had just been talking and enjoying each other when he put his hands on her cheeks. She didn’t have a moment to think or register how unusual the moment was before his lips were on hers and kissing her passionately. Her breath halted in her chest and she didn’t even have to tell her body to kiss him back, it was already doing so automatically. Of course, she had never been kissed like that before and it was leaving her a little dizzy but she was kissing him back with as much passion as she could to match his. Time for thinking would come later. Finally the kiss broke and Lena couldn’t help but just lean against him, trying to get everything working normally again. He’d definitely thrown her for a loop on that one, and she had loved it. But it certainly made their relationship even more complicated and she had no idea what to do about it. She couldn’t just leave him without an answer and so, hoping this was the right thing to do, she said “If that’s your method of motivation, I wouldn’t be opposed to more motivating.” It could be taken as a joke, even though the way it was said obviously wasn’t, so it was up to him on how things would go from there.
The music kept changing as they danced, but they didn’t pull away at any time. As long as he wanted to dance with her, she would keep dancing. There was no idea on when she would be able to dance with him again, if ever, and so Lena was going to suck it up as long as she could. “I really am glad you invited me, Sirius.” Her dark eyes slid up to look into his as she smiled back at him, relaxing into his arms and just allowing herself to flow along to the music with him. This was definitely going down as one of the best nights of her life.

His plans on blending into the crowd failed abruptly when a small blonde girl bounced right into his personal space, moments later his punch got taken and he was left stood there completely speechless, his hand still raised as if holding the drink. It wasn’t often that he was faced with a talkative Irish girl, the accent alone made his thoughts jump right to her having an actual Leprechaun background. He made a mental note to research if that were even possible to occur. They were always lively, talkative creatures, right? He blinked and averted his gaze automatically at the mock angry look, a smile tracing his own lips, she was amusing to say the least, shockingly social but most definitely amusing.
“I never knew it was alcohol infested..” He started off, actually managing to look somewhat put out by that realization, a little kicked puppy that had had its favourite toy taken away. He managed to muster a decent amount of mock sadness to his tone as he continued, “all I wanted was a fruity drink.” And he’ll never get it, because somebody had spiked the punch. What was the point in a ball without punch? It’s a tragedy and then some.
He’d been there not yet five minutes and already he’d found himself a date? Well, more like he was claimed as a date by the first person who laid eyes on him, Zeke wasn’t sure whether he should feel flattered or offended. He observed her as she continued to ramble, a smile alighting his lips automatically, he could say without any shadow of a doubt that he’d never met anybody quite like her before.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, miss O’Mara,” he started with a genuine warm smile directed towards the little blonde Hufflepuff, “I’m a Ravenclaw and my name’s Zeke.. Uhm..” And where does he go from there? He wanted so very much to compliment her attire, although unconventional she looked dazzling to this shy little Ravenclaw. For a moment he had to wonder whether Sirius had shot him with one of those pesky arrows, but if that were true then surely his tongue tied manner would have disappeared by now. It was mildly awkward for him for a moment, cheeks mildly flushed with sheer embarrassment of being so speechless.
He was quiet when he reached out to grab another cup, his wand sliding from his back pocket. He was already chewing on his lower lip nervously as he tapped the cup gently with his wand as he spoke the words softly to a well learnt transfiguration spell. The brightly coloured blue flower that he held out to her was perfect, a golden yellow shimmer on the petals just to blend it into her outfit, blue had always been his favourite colour, “isn’t a drink.. But you haven’t taught me to dance yet.. Consider it a thank you?” A thank you for noticing him? For pretty much just asking/forcing him to be her date? Let’s go with the former, it’s much truer than the latter. The blush on his face never faded as he held it out, in fact the pink hue to his cheeks darkened just a tad as he waited for her to take it from him, “I’m sorry it’s not as pretty as you.”

Sirius could practically feel his ego expanding by every word. Naturally, though, he couldn't help but feel a little uncomfortable with her talking about not needing a love potion. It was sort of a strong thing to say, but he smiled regardless. To be fair, it wasn't like they had just met each other. They had over a year of complicated nonsence that Sirius himself didn't even understand. The one thing that he had going for him was the fact that he didn't ask her to be his girlfriend. Nothing was really considered cheating or betrayal. They couldn't break up and get back together. All it was was complicated, and for Sirius, that was how it worked. Sirius didn't have a girlfriend. Not once had anyone been considered his girlfriend, and Sirius didn't know if he'd ever feel comfortable making such a commitment. As much as Sirius may have changed within the past year, he was still immature, and out of all the Marauders was probably the least comfortable with leaving Hogwarts or anything that required growing up and changing.
"I suppose my pride is much bigger, but for good reason, right?" he laughed lightly at the joke. He pulled out his arrows and hit a couple of random people, not really even paying attention if he hit two girls or two boys or even the right age. A dark thought of Silvanus entered Sirius' mind, and wondered if Kettleburn was there if he'd go after Lena and claim that Sirius had hit him with one of his arrows. He really wouldn't put it past the man.
As for girls trying to change Sirius, he hadn't been able to realize that of all the girls who had been in his life, Lena was the only one who didn't try to change him. She actually accepted him for who he was - he wasn't really sure how she felt about his womanizing ways, but he never actually asked her. How would you have asked a girl he tried to consider as just a friend how she felt about him persuing other girls when he was fully aware that she had at least a small amount of feelings for him?
Sirius felt a little guilty about kissing Lena. Did she think it meant more tha it did? When it came to trying to get with a girl, he never actually worried about how they felt before. It made everything so much more complicated with Lena. He tried to metaphorically keep his head and heart apart, but the more time he spent with her the more difficult it became.
"It's a little warm in here... want to go for a walk?" Sirius suggested as he grabbed another drink for both of them.

Annelise was fully prepared to just run back into the dance, but what Integra said into her ear actually made Annelise feel like her blood was boiling. Why the hell did it feel like that every time that Annelise went out without Remus, some snide Slytherin would always find their way into irritating her? She tried to be open minded and tried to not be judgmental, but the more she had to take from Slytherins, the more she actually began to believe their stereotypes. She hated that she was even thinking these things, but she couldn't help it. No Slytherin had ever done anything worth her time, even though she always was friendly to them. What had friendly ever earned her lately.
"Who are you?" Annelise said in a demeaning tone. It wasn't a literal question of who Integra was, but rather Annelise questioning who the hell Integra thought she was, and why she thought it was her right to poke her nose into her private business. It was admittedly the worst tone Annelise had used on anyone, all compressed into three little words. How she wished she had someone to have her back, but it looked as if she had nothing.
She allowed Integra and whats-his-name to leave, and she entered the dance with her adrenaline racing. Fully aware of what was in the punch, she downed an entire cup as quickly as she could. She was beginning to feel outnumbered, and she actually preferred the days of when she was almost completely anonymous at school. Annelise missed the days of having her trusty notebook filled with notes and facts about everyone from school, and when she had a brother, and when she didn't make snide comments.

Well the dance was terrible, at least for Alecto, but what had she expected coming alone? It wasn't as if she was going to accept a dance from anyone and it wasn't as if she was going to ask anyone. No, she'd come purely because she'd been bored and wanted to see what was going on. Truth was there was very little other than a spiked punch bowl and that was standard at any party where alcohol was not allowed. Alecto supposed she had sort of been hoping that someone would have caused some trouble that she could have gotten into but it seemed as though her fellow Slytherins were all being a bunch of pussies. Brilliant. It wasn't as if she could start something on her own.
Noticing the ridiculous blonde Cupid kissing a girl Alecto came to notice it was Sirius. Her heart jumped up into her mouth and for a second she could have sworn she was going to be sick. The sight of him dressed like that was disgusting to start with and then thinking that she and he had ... well it was not something she was particularly proud of because it wasn't as if she'd ever be able to change his ways, he was a blood traitor and always would be, though she had to admit, that was a bit of his charm.
Alecto felt a little more disgusted with herself and decided it was time to leave. She managed to get out of the hall as people were still entering. It was going to be an all night thing and as such, people liked to arrive 'fashionably late'. Idiots. She thought to herself, though why she had no idea, she was just in a bit of a foul mood and as such, stood on the back of a girls long dress that pulled along the floor. Alecto's heel caused a long tear through the train and Alecto looked at the mortified girl. "Oops." She said before walking off.
Looking about the entrance hall for any sign of trouble, Alecto was disappointed to see none. She did find however that some people had no respect and had pushed her unintentionally back into the dance. Alecto scowled but spotted that she had missed someone entering. Walking over towards the punch Alecto spotted Annelise helping herself to a drink, downing it all at once. Clearly someone was fed up of waiting outside like a lonely little looser and Alecto felt as though messing with someones mind might just pick up her evening a little.
Walking to the punch, Alecto filled her cup up and looked at Annelise. "You okay?" She asked in a concerned sort of tone. "You know the punch is spiked right?" She said with a slight little laugh. Oh what fun it would be to get into a little pleasant conversation with the Hufflepuff and then just start messing with her mind in anyway Alecto thought would be fun.

Annelise was grateful for her quick escape. Having virtually no friends other than your boyfriend certainly had its downfalls. She couldn't help but feel bothered by Integra's words. She highly doubted that Remus had 'another girl on his arm', but at the same time she couldn't help but wonder why she was essentially stood up. Never before had Remus been anything but early, and she was beginning to get worried. Had something happened? Ever since she found out Remus' secret, she had been nothing short of a worry wart about everything when it came to him... not that she showed it.
Just as Annelise finished her cup, she saw a flash of blonde hair. She recognized her as Alecto, yet another Slytherin. Annelise knowing everything about almost everyone with the help of her now-discarded notebook, she knew that Alecto agreed with the Dark ways, and it made Annelise want to roll her eyes. Why did Alecto think that Annelise want to associate with anyone who associated with the monster who killed her brother?
However, Annelise wasn't one to usually judge someone based on rumours alone, and Alecto's tone did seem caring, and therefore Annelise's gullible side came out.
"Yes, I'm OK," Annelise began. "I'm just so sick of people thinking they know me because I'm dating Remus!" she blurted before she could stop herself. Her cheeks went a little pink, but she poured another glass of punch as a distraction to herself. "I guess you'd know all about people judging you for something you can't control, eh, being a Slytherin."
Usually Annelise wouldn't make such assumptions, but she could feel the warmth of the alcohol move through her body, making her feel a little more chatty with things she wouldn't usually talk about.
She couldn't help but laugh at Alecto's comment about the punch. "It's kind of hard to not notice it's spiked."

Sirius had been unable to forget about the Valentine's Dance because it was something impossible to forget about? Well.. meet Remus, apparently senile before his age. He was really blaming the lack of clocks in the Hogwarts library, but who was he kidding? He should've remembered and heck, Annelise had given him a watch for his birthday last year, he had no excuse and he knew it.. He hadn't been sleeping well. As February crept towards its end (they were already halfway now!), his seventeenth birthday did as well and he wasn't looking forward to it to say the least. It wasn't something he liked discussing with others, either, because he felt ridiculous. All his classmates would love being of age, being able to do magic whenever wherever. For Remus, it felt like being thrown into the deep end without having been taught how to swim. Being of age had so many more implications for him. The yearly checkups at the Ministry, which were extremely unpleasant to start with, would now take place without his father there, for one thing. Also, it meant he only had one year left at school.. and then what? And then, apart from all that, there was a war going on and Remus couldn't help but worry - about his parents, his friends, Annelise, who had already lost her brother.. The future was terrifying and it was creeping up on him. He knew he was being ridiculous, that there was nothing he could do, and that he should snap out of it, but the thoughts kept looping in his head and he didn't exactly want to talk about it to anyone, so he had no way of getting rid of them. Either way, that was what was interfering with his sleep. He tossed for ages before he managed to drift off, only to wake soon after with the bitter aftertastes of dreams on the back of his tongue. The Valentine's Day Dance hadn't been on his mind much and he'd forgotten about the time, sitting reading in the library, until Madam Pince had pointedly asked why he wasn't in the Great Hall with the rest of the students. His heart had turned into lead at once - oh shit what time was it?
He had never run as fast as he had now, not ever, flying up stairs three steps at the time to make himself look at least a little remotely presentable. His heart beat in his chest as he pulled on some of Sirius' old robes (which he had grown out of, but fit Remus fairly well, even if they were just a bit short) and every thump was 'failure, failure, failure'. Honestly, as fast as he'd run upstairs to get dressed, so reluctant was he to go back down and face the people who would believe that Remus had just forgotten about them. The worst? It was true, he had forgotten.. Part of him felt so ashamed for letting his friends, and especially Annelise, down that he just wanted to turn back around and avoid the whole situation. However.. he wasn't a Gryffindor for nothing. He knew he ought to go, even if it just was to apologise or get a slap in the face for forgetting (but Annelise wouldn't.. would she? then again.. Sirius might). Either way, forgetting was bad enough - the least he could do was show up now.
He forced his breathing to slow as he walked down the last few steps and turned towards the Great Hall. Remus could hear music playing and there was something in the air, something.. He took a deep breath. Along with the normal scents of punch and perfume there was something- Oh. Sirius' love arrows. Artificial pheromones, very smart. He couldn't help but grin slightly, then realised it wasn't funny because he hadn't been there to see the first few arrows in action, and his expression dropped again. Remus paused briefly as he walked into the Great Hall. There seemed to be a pretty good turnout, more people than he remembered last year. It didn't take him long to spot Sirius, in his costume - with Lena - just leaving. He didn't even consider running after them to apologise. It seemed obvious that they wanted some time alone - he hoped in a positive sense, he hoped they weren't fighting. Remus wasn't sure what was going on with Sirius and Lena, but their relationship or friendship or whatever they had seemed turbulent to say the least.
Sirius' and Lena's leaving did make his choice who to apologise to first a lot easier, though. He couldn't spot James or Peter (which could be a good sign or an equally bad one), but he did see Annelise - in red and holding onto an empty cup. To be honest, he picked up her scent before he saw her - he almost always did, and right now that was just another reason why his cheeks burned in embarrassment. She was talking to someone who's face he couldn't see, laughing even (so she seemed to be having fun? was that good or bad because he wasn't there?), and Remus slowly walked over, also so he wouldn't attract any attention to himself - people tended to keep an eye out for Marauders and he didn't want to be noticed right now. He just wanted to go over and apologise and hopefully have a reasonably nice night. He was less than ten steps away now and nerves crept back into his chest, making his heart clench. Okay. So he was here now.. but what was he supposed to say that made it all better? Remus couldn't think of anything and he doubted that even Sirius would know how to sweet-talk himself out of this. As glad as he'd been, sort of, to see Annelise talking and laughing to someone else, he now sort of wished she was alone - he didn't want an audience as he apologised. Then again.. the Great Hall was hardly private right now..
Turning back was not an option, it would be so much worse if Annelise were to hear that he'd been there and had then turned back without talking to her! So, grabbing onto his last bits of failing courage, he walked over, guilt written all over his face, ignoring the blonde-haired girl for now and just saying the only thing he could think of, hardly original, but he hoped it would do: "Annelise -" He forced himself to look her in the eye, nervously chewing the right corner of his lower lip. "I'm so sorry."

Her eyes scanned the blonde hair kid with amazement and awe. "You did not know?!" Staring into his face with wide eyes she giggled. "We'll then it's a good thing that I caught you before you decided to drink it!" Ashlin was always polite and enjoyed a good conversation as much as the next person but she always took it to the next level, she loved talking and that was nearly all she did. "If you were to of been drunk you would not of met me! I do not like to talk to drunk people, my dad used to be an alcoholic and ever since Patty was born he has not touched a drop. My brother got into trouble a long time ago, maybe one or two years ago for drinking alcohol and my dad told him that he was very disappointed in him, that is one of the worst things I have ever heard my dad say, he's a really nice guy, super funny too!" Her lips were moving faster than a snitch and a huge smile was on her lips. She liked nice boys, but boys who liked candy would be better in her book.
She nearly interrupted him, but held her tongue as much as she could until he fell quiet, wavering on her heels with such glee was something she enjoyed. Company was good, she could talk anyone into a storm, even the most shy of person would be happy to have her with them. She did all the talking. "I like your name, it starts with the letter Z, it is unique! Oh my gosh Zeke!!! I just realized!!" She about leapt out of her skin. "Your name starts with a Z and my name starts with an A! It's so rare! We ARE the Alphabet!" She was so excited she nearly hugged him but learned all to well that people need space and that wasn't something she was particularly fond of. "I like Ravenclaw's you are all so smart it's really quite impressive! You make me smile and I like smiling it is a very good thing that you are nice to me if not I would be very sad because you are very cute and I like cute things want some candy?" Ashlin took in a really large breath and huffed out a bit opening her purse. "There is plenty to go around and I don't think I will be sleeping much tonight so I'm going to spend it with you! I also know where to get a really good fruity drink for when we are tired from dancing, it will be great fun." She had to stop herself and breath for a moment, there were times when she completely forgot to do that whole I need air to live thing.
He went for another cup and her eyes got wide. "Noooooo-" she was cut short when a blue flower was formed and her mouth dropped, it was by far one of the most beautiful things she had seen in her entire life, aside from her mom, she was really pretty. "Why are you thanking me? I haven't done anything to deserve this! You're so kind! Why can't all boys be like you then this world would be a better place. No pesky war waging on, nothing. It would be a great place with little rabbits and kitten so soft! Thank you for the pretty flower! I will keep it forever." She held the flower staring at it. Ashlin was by far the most aloof and light girl she knew and was really pleased with how her life had turned out. It would be a shame if anything happened since nothing so far has happened that was terrible. Putting the flower into her hair she pinned it securely and beamed up at him. Reaching out she grabbed his hand and took a breath. "Come come! There is much to teach you! I love to dance, my mother has always told me a proper lady who does not know how to dance is not a proper lady at all and that is the truth." With a nod she put her hand over his shoulder and giggled.
"Now you put your hand around my waist and grab my left hand with yours, we will learn a simple waltz okay?" She was excited to have someone to dance with. "Don't worry if you step on my toes, because I won't feel it anyway. My dad sent me these shoes from America a couple of weeks ago, they are steel toed." Showing her bright yellow boots off to him she giggled wildly again. "Okay let us do this! I warn you though there will be MANY candy breaks this evening if I do not get my fill of sugary goodness on a special holiday as this I will not be a particularly happy person and no one wants a crying little girl. Also do not refer to me as short, I do not like it, I know I am only five feet tall but that is no excuse to make fun of someone who is particularly tiny! If you cannot reach my waist the back is fine to, you are really cute, I like your hair." [/size]

His eyes scanned the crowd as he regained his compsure briskly. Rab looked at the woman drapped of his arm and sighed. Really, he wasn't in any mood to start a fight tonight, there was far to many things on his mind and he has yet to talk to Voldemort about progress within the school. Curious as to who was going to show up. Watching Sirius leave the ball, there went his excitment. Never talking to Integra he watched Remus enter the hall all frazzled. He was getting impatient. Carefully watching Alecto's actions he sighed, not normally one for confrontation he wanted nothing to do with anyone, not even the wench he decided to take to the ball in the first place. Dropping his arm he looked over at her, and rose an eyebrow.
There weren't many people here to even really start a fight, but he wanted to punch Sirius in the face so hard for being a blood traitor. Not many things could get his blood going, but this was the one that made it boil with pure rage and anger. 'Rabastan, look at them all, having a fun time, look at the blood traitor laughing it up as he always does. You have to do something about it, you have to stop this. You must make Bella proud of you, you need to do it to be acceptde by your brother.' His conscious was getting the better of him and he shook his head, wavering on his feet. The narrow slits that hold his eyes scanned the floor. A small pigtailed girl and a blonde ravenclaw were dancing away, he had no interest in the two, no, none at all.
Palms were getting sweaty as he watched over the entire crowd of students filing in, dancing, drinking having a good time. It was disgusting watching the most pureblooded of people mingle with others of lesser life quality. His jaw tightened and clenched for a moment. Where the hell was everyone of importance? Why was it that people could freely come and go as they wished? Why couldn't all purebloods be against the dirtblood and mixedbloods. Half-bloods were ridiculous and it wasn't a good thing in the least. The magical power of the pureblooded wizards would soon wither away if someone didn't do anything about it.
No, this wasn't a good thing and this is exactly why his parents brought him up the way the did hoping he would realize the faults Sirius had and how it would be the downfall of the pureblooded families. Rabastan didn't want to dance, truth was he didn't want to be here anymore. These women, Alecto and Integra, were far beyond their wits and if they forced him to do evil things, this wasn't going to end up in a good night. It was already headed down hill from here on out. Rage built within his chest watching the people interacting with each other. It was the most horrible thing anyone could see. Alecto and Integra were far to sinister to be talked sense into anymore, they were lost and not particularly logic, not in his mind at least, and he didn't want to deal with the consequences of acting before approval from Voldemort. Peer pressure is a bitch.
Clearly not himself he looked at Integra. This was a bad decision he should of never gotten involved with her, at least Jamison had some decent common sense to not get involved in the affairs of women. His jaw tightened as he scoured the room. A mumble escaped his lips and he threw his arms up in retaliation. "Get your bloody mits of me you poor excuse for a pureblood. Go back to whoring yourself around just to get information on other dirtbloods and mudbloods." He shoved Integra into the punch table near Remus, Annelise and Alecto. Taking in a sharp breath he looked over the crowd. "You all mingle with your friends, I've better things to deal with." Turning his back on the situation he wrapped his fingers around the handle of his wand within his jacket pocket and looked toward them all.
"The lot of you can enjoy mingling with your mudblooded and half breeds. I don't have time to enjoy a peaceful night of nothingness, there are things to be done. It is all so pointless. Why I even considered coming to this with a whore of a woman is beyond me, it will not happen again." He spoke coldly and loudly to the entire hall. "If anyone follows me, I will not hesitate to prevent you from talking, ever again." His dress shoes slapped the ground hard and he turned from the Great Hall on his way to the dungeons.

Listening wasn't all that hard, but paying attention to something so dreary was hard work but Alecto put forth her efforts and paid painful attention to Annelise's complaints, on the broight side for Alecto the girl was willing to talk and with a couple more drinks in her, maybe not even a half, her mind would be so easy to bend with just subtle persuasions, getting the girl to think of Remus with another all by herself because there was no challange in just plain old spitting it out and that wouldn't make someone in love think it was true anyway, no, you had to lead them to draw their own conclusions, allow them to get themselves a little paranoid and it wasn't as if it was a difficult task and not to mention it was far more fun to get into someone's mind and pull the strings.
"I suppose, but you sort of get used to it and I can't exactly say it's not all deserved. I can get a little bitchy from time to time and I'm sure you know how rumours can get out of control sometimes. People talk and usually something gets miscommunicated along the way." She said, truth was always something appreciated and what Alecto had said was sort of partially true as well as the fact that she was trying to plant a little seed in Annelise's mind that someone somewhere had been talking of her, 'I'm sure you know how rumours can get out of control' wasn't a phrase she stuck in there by accident after all, but it wasn't as if she was going to have much time to think on it because unfortunately another showed up.
Frustration. Alecto didn't show a drop of her true emotions because over the many years, she'd become an expert at concealing them. But at Remus Lupin's arrival, she was most annoyed. She wasn't going to get to play with her life sized dolly. She wasn't going to be able to twist and maim the little innocents mind, it really was a pitiful excuse of an evening and as if things could not get worse they did. An Integra was thrown into the punch table which caused it to spill a little, Alecto looked at Rabastan with a scowl as words came pouring from beyond his teeth. Sometimes she even wondered why she tolerated him and his loud mouth. The fact that he'd brought Echoes to the ball was something every pure blood would scoff at. She was a waste of a human and it seemed, Rabastan was only just realising this.
Standing where she was, Alecto did not move but she watched Annelise and kept an eye on Integra in her peripheral vision. Alecto expected the ditzy Hufflepuff to just forgive Remus after all Hufflepuff's were known for how easily they could be walked over and then after that she expected Annelise and Remus to walk off and hopefully Alecto would be left with Integra and Alecto had a few choice words for the wench, if she didn't pass out on the floor or walk off, who knew what that woman would ever do next.
