Annelise didn't actually think that their relationship was going to end at that moment. In fact, she couldn't help but feel pleased that this was their first somewhat argument since they started dating over a year ago. Most girls she knew had a boyfriend that they thought was "the one" and then began arguing, lost them, got them back and lost them again in the time that she and Remus were together. If that wasn't something to be proud about, then she didn't know what was. It was exactly what Remus had thought to himself - a blip. No big deal. Annelise couldn't help but feel a little embarassed about her lapse in judgment, however.
Annelise was a bit surprised that Remus didn't inquire about what she had meant. He probably could tell that their company was less than ideal, but it wasn't like her to say something like that. Perhaps he was so flustered about showing up so late that the comment just went in on ear and out the other. Maybe him not noticing was a blessing in disguise considering she wasn't even sure if she wanted to tell him about what had just happened.
"Yeah I'm fine," Annelise replied, laughing slightly. The night really could only get that much worse if she passed out from choking. She couldn't help the grumpy side of her that cynically believed that the Slytherins would probably start a rumour that Remus somehow caused her to choke because she (rightfully) accused him of cheating or something. Before now, Annelise really had no idea how creative people's minds could get when they wanted to be malicious. She allowed him to pull her close and she leaned into his chest in a comfortable fashion. Although Remus wasn't the biggest guy she knew, she always believed his hugs to be the warmest that she ever experienced and therefore the most comfortable. Really, Annelise couldn't think of much that would cause Annelise to leave Remus. She stuck by him through him telling her about his lycanthropy, so what more would she have to endure? Obviously she wouldn't stick by him if he cheated, but that would be a really stupid way to end their relationship after he told her a secret that big. Not that would tell anyone anyways, but he probably wouldn't be so sure. Annelise highly doubted that he would cheat. Besides, who would he cheat on her with, anyways? Lena? She was the only girl she was aware that Remus hung out with, but she seemed to always be around Sirius anyways. If Annelise had seen correctly, the two had just kissed and left together, so unless Lena was easy... well, that situation wouldn't happen anyways.
"Defense..." she repeated fondly. She couldn't help but reminice about how they originally got to know each other in the first place with their tutoring sessions. After thinking about all this, she felt even guiltier for allowing some girl she didn't even really know to try to sway her into thinking that Remus was up to no good. As much as she just got irritated with Remus for almost standing her up, the dance was beginning to lose interest for her. "Hey, did you want to get out of here? It's getting dull anyways, and I don't think you were crazy about coming in the first place."
She didn't mean what she said in a snarky sense, but it was merely the obvious truth. She tried to say it as casually as possible so that Remus wouldn't misconstrue it. She didn't know where she wanted to go, but being surrounded by all these people was making her feel like she was being watched or something.
((OOC: Maybe start a new thread from here? Just after they leave or something...?))
